006; video

[The feed is shaking. It won't focus properly on Armin's face, wan with terror, looking out to the distance. His breathing is sharp and quick.]

[No. This can't be happening. He's tried so hard to find a way out, to avoid this-- have all his efforts been for naught? They're here, and the Mansion is nothing more than a giant feed box...]

[calm down. calm down.
Calm down. Giving into despair now won't save anyone. He has to at least warn them of the dangers ahead. Armin draws a hand back through his hair and swallows thickly.]

Do not...

[He stands up straighter.]

Do not engage the incoming Titans!

They aren't normal monsters. They can't be killed by normal means. Facing them head-on will end in death-- Please listen very carefully to what I'm about to say. It will save your life.

[Armin takes a deep breath, and then speaks quickly, but clearly, with careful enunciation. It's like he's listing off bullets ordered up in his head.]

Titans-- the monsters that you now see approaching-- do not feel fear. You cannot intimidate them with shows of power. They are mindless, ruthless, and their only goal in existing is eating people. They feel no pain, so superficial wounds will not hinder them. They will do whatever is in their power to eat you, no matter how badly wounded. Never let your guard down.

The only way to stop a Titan is to kill it. And the only way to kill a Titan is to cut out a chunk of flesh from the napes of their necks, where the spinal cord would meet the brain stem on a human. Any other wound will heal-- and at an astonishing rate-- even if you blow a Titan's brains out, it will regenerate. The fatal point on their neck is their only vulnerable spot.

The only other weaknesses worth taking advantage of are... Titans are single-minded and stupid, and can be easily led into traps with enough skill, where they can be more easily dispatched. If you somehow incapacitate a Titan's limbs, that will render them motionless until they regenerate. They can also be blinded with shot. And they subsist on sunlight, so their movements slow dramatically at night.

Fortifications have appeared around the Mansion, and there are rail-guns on the roof. If anyone has the courage to help, I could use every hand available-- No, we need every hand available. If we can't fend these Titans off, they can and will tear the Mansion apart to eat every last person hiding inside.

[He continues to stare out into the distance. His jaw is tight.]

...Anyone who wants to give their lives for humanity, and fight the Titans hand-to-hand-- they should contact my Captain, Levi. He'll make use of you somehow.

And...

[Armin closes his eyes, as if in pain.]

I'm sorry. I couldn't get us out. I did everything I could to try and avoid this fate, but... I failed. I'm so sorry. This is all my fault.

[A faint rumbling can be heard from far away.]

ooc: [Game start! Titans are now advancing on the Mansion. Team Armin and Team Levi will make their separate log posts later.]

[ Natasha's been on high alert since the Duchess had given her announcement and some of the other residents had gotten some cryptic hints and clues about what to watch for and where, to share with the rest of them.

Armin's announcement is something that alarms her a little bit, because she's talked to Mikasa extensively about the monsters from her home, they'd even practiced together a few times and it had been in the back of her mind to ask one of them about the Maneuver Gear and how it worked and if she could get one to try. It was just another one of those things she'd never gotten around to yet, especially with all the excitement of the holidays and the Jabberwocky.

Now, though. It seemed like it was going to bumped a lot higher on her list of priorities.

She flicks open a video feed to respond, and her voice is calm and reassuring, taking the information he'd spilled in stride. She's rather fond of the boy, after the few times she's gotten to interact with him in the past, ever since this place had inadvertently made them cousins. It carries over into the here and now. ]

None of this is your fault, lets leave the blaming on Wonderland itself for deciding we needed more visitors from your home in the first place.

The information you have is very useful, and I've spoken to Mikasa about fighting these things in the past. I can pass off information to some of the fighters I know and we'll see what we can do. Although she mentioned something about equipment that made the vulnerabilities easier to reach? Is that something I should be speaking to your Captain about? I'm afraid I haven't met him yet.

[ She nods, absorbing that information with a serious look. ]

I'll do that. Thank you, Armin.

[ She pauses, studying him intently on the screen for a moment before gently turning the conversation to carefully personal. ]

Are you alright?

[ Being afraid of something terrifying and dangerous doesn't mean you can't still take action. Some things are frightening. Personally, the approaching monsters look fairly terrifying as shit. She's still going to do her best to take down as many as she can. ]

No, I imagine you don't. That's not something anyone could forget easily. And they probably shouldn't, I suppose. I'd be more worried about someone who could easily put such things from their mind.

And I'm sure the Corps has need of them, if you fight these things constantly. But don't think you're less or lacking because you're not like them. It's the other way around.

Besides, you're the one here spreading information and helping to get everyone else prepared. It's invaluable aid, we need that desperately - someone who knows how to instruct us about what to do. The more of us we can keep alive, the better off we are.

I'll give it a try. I've flown a lot of things in my time. Hopefully I'll be able to pick it up fast enough to be of use.

[ Was it harder than a Chitauri hover craft? She supposed she'd find out soon enough. ]

I've got people to help, Armin. Your Captain won't be fighting alone.

No, I'll bring along an entire team. We've faced impossible odds and some pretty frightening monsters before. Most of us are usually down in the training center fairly frequently, if you or your Captain would like to join us, when things aren't quite so life-threatening.

[ Because this is an event. It will still pass, as frightening as it may seem now. They all seem to, here. ]

I think that's something we all need to be careful about in this place. It's fairly easy to get complacent when all the events it throws at us are relatively harmless. And then a titan or a Jabberwocky shows up, just to shake things up a bit. [ Her tone is a little dry at that. She hopes they won't have to worry about an alien invasion at some point, but she wouldn't put it past the place either. ] You're welcome to stop by and train anytime you like, Armin. I know Mikasa used the facilities while she was here. Although we were still trying to figure out how to replicate something as big as you're used to fighting within the training simulations.
