Between all the murder and mayhem, sometimes a man has to find a way to keep himself busy. Tempting as it is to know you've got an endless supply of all the fine spirits you could want right there in that old closet, there's a balance to be struck - Namely between 'having fun' and 'getting yelled at', and Lord knows I'm not always good at finding it.

So a hobby, then! Something productive - And here it is!

[Insert here a photo of a blue knit scarf. It's... it sure is a scarf. It's not terrible, but it's definitely uh, a beginner's work. Also the framing of the picture is a little askew, and it's not in completely crisp focus, but he's from the 18th century so you'll have to forgive him. At least he figured out this much.]

Really, the pride ought to be all Mrs. Fraser's though, patient woman that she is. It does make a man appreciate the effort ladies put into all this sort of thing.

The next one will stay the same size throughout, I think. That's the plan, at least.

I find there's much to be said for patient effort, and many men are considerably lacking in it. It must be experienced to be appreciated.

I must say that knitting is not a skill I ever took the time to master.

Sir! I have no expertise in the appraisal of scarves, but I have to say that it looks quite lovely. However, there is always room for improvement!

I would like to cheer you on in your continued efforts, and I commend you for pursuing a hobby! I have been meaning to seek out such things myself!

[Ben is actually impressed with two things: 1. How quickly Caleb has adapted to technology, and 2. that he's taken up such an usual hobby.

He is surprised about neither of these things. Caleb is both intelligent and unpredictable. That's why he and Ben get along so well, and why Ben is proud of him for this post.]

Anna would be proud, if she were here.

Ah, this is nothing on Annie's work! It does make me miss her, though. I don't exactly want her dealing with this mess but if she had to be I don't think I would be complaining to see her, either.

It's lovely. It's got character.

[ and it's far better than anything agent carter could produce -- just the thought gives her a stomachache and flashbacks to lessons spent sitting on the back step while her mother tried to insist she knit two purl two. ]

But if you've had fun making it then it raises the question of how long it's been since you got yelled at?

That looks very nice! The first time making a creative product will always turn out a bit less to be desired, but you can only go up from there. Besides, everyone has to start somewhere! I look forward to seeing your next creation.
