There's so much romance floatin' around, I swear, and it's not even Valentine's Day. Not that I've ever known what it's like to be with someone 'round then, but whatever. [ She waves that off. ] People're gettin' married, it's sweater weather and time for cuddlin'... [ She sighs happily. ] It got me wantin' to read somethin' warm and happy for once.

[ She needed something to distract her from her burning desire for vengeance, okay? ]

But okay, so, I just started this series I've always being dyin' to read. Like, it didn't even occur to me that I could do it here! And now I can and it's so good.

[ Jessica's clutching the first book of said mystery series in her hands, the top of it just barely visible on screen. It's like she had to hug it a little to make her point. This shit's the best thing since sliced bread! ]

I know not everybody's from the same world, but somebody's bound to know about it, right? And I bet at least one person's read it, 'cause it's so popular. Like, it's a movie!

[ And so, the lion finally reveals to the lambs what book she means... ]

So, anybody read Twilight? I wanna talk with you all about it!

It's about a human and a vampire fallin' in love with each other. It's the best! Like, all ever anyone wants to talk about is the sparklin' bullshit, but that's hardly even a big deal!

[Mikan's eyes light up - she loves a good romance!]

Oh... that sounds so romantic!

Yeah, it for sure is! [ She smiles a bit. ] It's kinda weird? But this is really helpin' me get past shit with my ex.

[ Mostly. There's definitely some blood on a few pages from how hard she was crying at times. ]

Maybe it'll help me get past my love too...

Ooh, ooh, you should! [ She nods enthusiastically. ] Then you can know how fucked up bein' a vampire is sometimes! I mean, you're gettin' a lotta this from the human's perspective, but it's still there. [ Pause. ] Not...that you'd probably wanna read it for that reason.

But speakin' of you gettin' better. [ Her head tilts with a look of concern. ] You doin' a little better since I last saw you?

[She nods a little.]

Yes... Being with all my great friends really lifted my spirits. I'm so lucky to have them.

[She's not 100% better, but, well, who would be after murder?]

Okay, awesome, 'cause otherwise I was gonna offer you blood. Or I'd glamour you some happiness. One of the two.

[ There's a pause as she goes over what she just said again. ]

...Those sound way worse when I say 'em out loud.

[ Because it's totally normal to try helping people with mind control and trippy blood. ]

So, um, you like romance novels...?

Well. I think? I haven't really had much chance to read books that I actually wanna read.

[ She smiles. ] I like this one, though, and some of the cheesy ones I've snuck home before. So I'm thinkin' I do. It's nice seein' people be in love and happy. Never really got to see much of that growin' up.

I like them too! If I had spare money, I'd try to check out romance manga...

Oh, um, manga is like... comic books!

[ Thankfully Mikan explained, because she was getting the blankest of stares. ]

Ooh, whoa! Neat! I didn't know they made that kind!

[ Granted, she also didn't think Japan had much in the form of comic books, but she's at least smart enough to not show her ignorance for once. ]

I thought it was s'posed to only be for superheroes and stuff!

Oh, no, they have all kinds! Romance , horror, comedy... if it's a genre, there's a manga that has it. My favorite ones are about ordinary high-school girls who wind up falling in love with the cool boys...

[ You'd think she just hit the lottery, how happy she looks. It's a miracle she's not squeaking in delight. ]

I could see what normal high school girls are like?!

[ She'd honestly wanted more of that in Twilight. The idea of going to school without parents breathing down her neck and learning from other people and having normal friends...God, it was an amazing world to dip her toes in.

And now there were comic books with it? Holy shit, the outside world was amazing. ]

God, I wanna move to Japan...

I could try to get some from my closet for you, if you want? They'll be bootleg versions, but it might be close enough...?

[ She's bouncing with excitement so much, her device flops off the pillows she had it propped on. Whoops.

With a sheepish laugh, she puts it back in place. ]

...Just, uh, not too soon. [ She holds up Twilight. ] I still got three more books to get through, and I feel like more than one person might try and spoil me at some point.

Oh, of course. I can wait... time is something we all have here.

Ain't that the truth? Guess it's good for me to get used to it, though. Lord knows I'm gonna have plenty of it waitin' for me, no matter what happens.

[ It's a strange, scary, but also sort of thrilling thought. ]
