+ Unless-- Unless we're all part of the same dream +

Hello everyone! As you've probably noticed, things are a bit of a mess right now. In the last character event, the White Queen turned into the Jabberwocky and flew away, and Alice, her royal adviser, does not have the situation even remotely under control. She called an Address and was immediately called out for lying to the Mirror public about the situation. That being said, she's determined to do what she can to fix things, and to bring the White Queen back to her throne. Because surely this is all some big misunderstanding, right?

Alice (with the help of the Tweedles and the Treacle Trio) will attempt to conduct a magical seance on Thursday, June 6th. Seances call on those who aren't here anymore, right? It seems like a perfectly fine idea to Alice, and no one has thought to correct her. So up in the attic of the mansion, they will hold a magical seance and attempt to contact the other side.

However, this proves to be a bit too powerful. The spell will cast across the entirety of Wonderland (both Real and Mirror Side) and every single person in Wonderland, no matter what they were doing prior to the seance, will black out. When they awake, they will find themselves in a strange and twisted world outside of time - a different one than usual. Elements may seem familiar, but it's clearly a different place.

Welcome, Mirrors and Reals, to DREAM SIDE. The sky above is dark and speckled with far-off stars but the world below is unnaturally lit and bright. There is a mansion at its center, but it is warped and unusual, as though someone stretched it like taffy, but if you try to enter it, you'll find that the door is not just locked - it appears to be painted on, as though it is just static scenery. It isn't a mansion that can be entered, just a cartoon-ish mansion cobbled together from dozens of memories.

Dream Side, as you might have guessed from the name, is not a static place. It is built from the scraps of dreams of those who cross into that side of Wonderland. Characters on this side of Wonderland are not asleep, but the world they are in is shaped by the contents of their dreams. Unlike the glass between Real Side and Mirror Side, there does not seem to be an obvious thing connecting this Side of Wonderland to the other two - at least, not something visible.

They are not alone in this world either - because the girls were conducting a seance, they have inadvertently called upon the dead. For each time your character has died a mansion death, there will be a ghostly copy of them wandering Dream Side. They will look as standard ghosts do - pale and translucent, looking as they did the moment they died. They will have a tendency to haunt their current living version (and those who care about them), but they will not be able to speak directly with them. For Mirrors, these ghosts can be Unmade versions of themselves, if they were ever Unmade. Some ghosts might be hostile and some might just gently haunt from a distance - it will depend on the character and what they would do if they were a ghost how they behave.

Under the cut we have a few more details!

  • In the plot post we will have a thread for suggesting locations. This way, since this world is cobbled together from the dreams of many, people will know where their characters can go. No one is required to stay in a section that represents them - the world is big enough that they might not even choose to spend time there at all.

  • Characters will find that they no longer need to sleep while they are on Dream Side. They also won't have access to any items that weren't already on their person, but some locations may have doors in them that function the same way that closets do. It is up to your characters to guess and check to figure out which doors are closet doors, but they will function the same way closets do on Real Side and Mirror Side.

  • Dream Side is flexible - because it is made of dreams, characters may be able to influence their surroundings to a degree. It will essentially split into two categories:
    1. Characters who are normally good at lucid dreaming when they sleep will be able to bend the setting to their will (within reason) if they think about it hard enough.
    2. Characters who are very bad at lucid dreaming will also be able to bend the setting, but will be unable to control how it changes around them. For example, if they are scared, the area around them may become darker and more intimidating.

  • The longer they are on Dream Side, the more nightmarish the world will feel. People will start to increasingly feel like something is coming for them. For those who are not good at lucid dreaming, this will cause parts of the world around them to warp and become nightmare-ish, but those who are good at it may be able to resist. Some might feel it sooner but everyone should be feeling this to some degree by the 10th or 11th, even characters who are not being actively haunted by something. This, combined with the black starry sky, might seem familiar to those who were here last Ewaymas.

  • There will be a mingle log - the network devices will not work on Dream Side. The mingle will split into two sections - one is for character top levels, and the other will call for volunteers. Characters who are signed up in this section will receive a special encounter at a random point during the event. All volunteers should be available during the event - not necessarily every day all day, but enough to thread the thread. These encounters will be for giving out pieces of information about this Side of Wonderland, the plot, or other fun secret surprises!

What’s going on here? How do they get out of here? And just where is the Jabberwocky or the White Queen? (or both, perhaps, if the previous event is to be believed - do you believe it?) Time to put your thinking caps on, if you don’t get too distracted by this odd Dream Side you’ve all been transported to!

Please hit up our FAQ thread for any questions you might have, and hit up our locations thread to volunteer some locations for Dream Side! You’ll be able to add more to it while you’re threading as well, but this thread will give people an idea of what is freely available to be used. And finally, come plot with us here on this plot post! What are your characters doing? Who’s trying to figure out what’s going on and who’s just trying to survive with the least amount of trauma? Anyone’s Mirrors having some existential crisis-es or taking matters into their own hands, since Alice is clearly not the most competent leader? Come let us know in the comments!

And most importantly - have fun! ♥

WIRT, STAN, TOHRU and MIRROR STAN

Wirt will be pretty terrified of this place, but he's going to try and keep out of the section that is very deliberately based on his subconscious...though, he gets lost very easily, so he'll probably wind up back there entirely by accident now and then. He's not really a lucid dreamer at all, so when he gets worked up and anxious the world around him will have an absolute field day warping and twisting. He's not going to have a good time, especially if he's by himself. There will be two Wirt ghosts wandering around of him, both wearing his old gnome costume. One will seem to be soaked to the bone and is missing his hat, and the other has a gruesome head wound, but they both act the same way. They seem drawn to people Wirt knew in life, and have a tendency to lurk around them, but if someone looks at them directly, they'll vanish.

Stan is mostly focused on just trying to survive in this place, and he'll find a place with a functional closet and try to stick around that general area for the most part. He's actually canonically a fantastic lucid dreamer, so once he gets that he can actually push back against this place a little he'll try a little harder to find his people and get them out of trouble. If you want this old man to give your character a hand, let me know! There will be two Stan ghosts, one dressed in old timey clothes but otherwise seemingly unharmed, and the other has a large stomach wound from a laser gun that looks like it bled quite a bit. The one in old timey clothes will be more mischievous than malevolent, but the one with the stomach wound is stuck in the mood he was in when he died - furious.

Tohru will probably try Granny's Diner on Main Street first, but without anything but lasagna there, she can't really do much. She'll probably settle in School University, because even with its unusual menus it's still more familiar than most other things (unless I come up with a location for her). She's not a lucid dreamer and will be prone to her emotions and thoughts warping things, though probably not as badly as Wirt. Even though her death toll has been reset since she was re-apped, I'm still going to bring back two Tohru ghosts. One was stabbed in the chest, and the other has a very severe neck wound, and they will appear to people who could use a calming presence. ...Unfortunately, neither Tohru ghost looks particularly comforting, so when someone inevitably has a bad reaction to their approach, they will vanish instantly.

I'll be skipping Mirror Wirt and Mirror Tohru unless something comes up for either of them, but Mirror Stan will hate this turn of events because he will be haunted by everyone's favorite Grunkle, Mirror Stan 1.0 Grunkle Lee. He's a gentle ghost who lurks around but in particular will be interested in this new version of himself. Mirror Stan will get the sense that this dead version of himself is judging him, whether he is or not (whether he's capable of that or not) and will spend most of the event just trying to get away from him.
