[When the video starts up, there's still some purple smoke floating in the air. The camera tilts, and it shows a figure that might be vaguely familiar to some residents, for one reason or another: Lanky, bad posture, wearing an old-fashioned diving suit tailored to fit a young girl. As the camera is apparently put down somewhere, the bed in the room can be seen. On top of it is a small, skinny doll with a bubble-shaped head with little toy arm-spikes. Soon, though, a real helmet and real arm-spike equipped gloves are set down next to it, and a girl of about 16 or 17 hops up onto the bed. When she speaks, it seems like she's addressing the machine, but she isn't quite looking at it, either.]

Well... It certainly looks just the way I left it. I couldn't find any of them, though.

[She gives a quick, short chuckle, which doesn't sound as convincingly lighthearted as she meant it to sound. She then finally looks to the camera, wearing an equally unconvincing smile.]

I... don't suppose there's anyone I know here, is there?

[He'd been trying to rattle it all off, cutting straight to the chase, but his voice fails for a moment.]
I've heard what they do to them, in Rapture. But I'd appreciate anything you can tell me, all the same. About her, or about the other girls.

[Eleanor's face flashes in recognition at the name Cindy, and she nods understandingly.]

All the girls went through a lot, but... They're okay now. What you've heard... it was true. But my Father helped them escape, even if...

He got to see the sun again, at least.

[She shakes her head, and tries to look more confident than she feels.]

Your daughter will be fine. I... I have faith in that.

Escape to...?

[Her mention of the sun catches his attention. The Delta he'd met hadn't mentioned an escape.]

Back to the surface?

Yes, that's right. There's a woman, Tannenbaum, I was going to try to meet up with her to figure out what to do with the girls after we got back to shore, but now I'm here...

[And that name rings a bell too--a bit more distant, long before Wonderland, but at least everything is falling tidily into place.]

I...suppose I owe you some answers now, if you still want them. Since we're both stuck here, and the girls are out there, learning the ropes here is a little more urgent.

[Though it pains him to say it.]

They'll be alright, even if I don't... exactly get back very soon. They're all very clever, and I think we were near a lighthouse.

[She grimaces a bit, considering something else.]

And... my mother... should also be with them. Whether that makes the situation better or worse, though...

[If her act of mercy actually had any effect on the woman, maybe the girls could convince her to help them if they needed. On the other hand, if she hadn't changed at all, the best case scenario was that she would do nothing. Worst case scenario...]

Um, I suppose I should ask if you know where we go to get food. I can't actually remember the last time I ate; everything seems like it just went by so fast...

Time supposedly doesn't pass while we're here. I'll...try not to worry.

[He's totally worried.]

You can ask the closets for food, but it's usually better in the kitchen or the dining room. It just...turns up. If you're thinking about it clearly.

[She'd like to eat it, not wear it.]

Sorry. I didn't mean it like it probably sounded. The house takes care of us, and it's pretty reliable, just...stay alert. That's all. And don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it. There's a lot of surveillance equipment here--the cameras, the communicators--and it can be awful, yeah, but it's also a tool.

[She manages to smile again, a bit more confidently this time.]

I'll be alright. If there's one thing I've learned from my mother it's how to use surveillance to my advantage.
