[ Aerith pops on screen looking a little winded, and maybe just a tiny bit frantic.

See, she has this Materia - a tiny little ball of glowy magic, courtesy of her mother - and she's managed to lose it.

There's no telling where the thing is. Usually, she tucks it up tightly in her ribbon, but recently she's been pretty distracted with the arrival of some of her favorite people, and maybe she's let her routine slide just the tiniest bit.

Whatever the reason, it's now gone and after she's turned her room upside down in her search, she figures she'll put out a message on the network in case anyone's found it. ]

I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I've lost something of mine. It's green and about this size. [ And she props her little device on a side table, so she can stand back and make a shape with her hands. ] It's not big enough to really stand out, but it's not small enough to fall through any cracks or vents.

[ She picks up her device again, sighing. In all the time she's had her mother's Materia on her, she hasn't lost it. Not like this. Especially not in a mansion that likes to throw monsters and tricks their way. ]

I'm going to look more through the mansion, but if anyone comes across it, give me a heads up?

[OOC: Just a heads up - she won't be finding it anytime soon, but everyone is welcome to help her. Also, feel free to run into her anywhere - she'll be searching high and low and through the grounds. ]

Hey, it's no problem. Sad to say that I haven't seen anything like that, but I'll stay on the lookout. Sounds awful pretty though!

[As far as Martha is concerned, no, she doesn't have anything better to do. Other than tracking down all the people who she experimented on during the event to apologize, but that's... well, it's draining. And Aerith needs her help, so she's not going to ignore that either.

When Aerith shows her a replica of what she's looking for, Martha peers at it, tilting her head from side to side.] So sort of like a marble, then. [She has to wonder what makes it so special. She can tell that Aerith's a bit more tense than usual, so she must be rather upset to have lost it.]

Right. The diner sounds good. [Martha's guessing Aerith's already searched her whole room twice over. She heads back out the door and down the hall toward the diner, glancing over at Aerith as she goes.] So... I'm assuming whatever it is, it has a lot of sentimental value, is that it?

Probably just lost it then. Do anything different with your hair lately? If you don't mind me asking.

[ Aerith makes a mention note to look up baseball sometime. She has plenty to keep her occupied next time she ventures into the library. ]

Last time I saw it was the other morning. I usually just tuck it up in my ribbon - [ And her hand automatically goes up to tug on it, make sure it's still there and tied tightly. ] Not the safest place, but I've been doing it for years. I think I've been absentminded lately, and just didn't tie it tight enough.

[ Aerith takes a few steps closer, craning her neck to see if she can catch a glimpse inside his backpack. No luck, though, and she gives the ticket a curious look. ]

I don't really have any money on me. What do you take as payment?

[ She's already learned gil means squat in this place, so she just threw the money she had into her nightstand. She could do with a little luck, though. ]

[ Aerith doesn't mind the question at all, and gives him a small smile. ]

It's something my mother gave me when I was very little. [ Right before she died, but that part Aerith usually leaves out. Her mother's death always had a disconnect for her, since they were in contact even after she'd passed. Aerith still feels strange describing it to people. ]

I've had it for years, and even though it doesn't actually have any kind of function I like having it close.

[ It's sentimental, but there's also something inside that tells her she needs to have it. ]

You're right. [ Once they reach the area Aerith puts her hands on her hips, her eyes scanning the flowers real quick to see if anything jumps out at her. No luck, though. ]

Okay, I'll start over here - [ She points to her left. ] I didn't really move around too much, so it shouldn't take long to just sweep this small patch of flowers.

It has some sentimental value for me. I guess you could call it a family heirloom.

[ In a sense. Aerith knows it's been handed down for a long long time, but she doesn't know any specifics. ]

I've tried to duplicate materia here before, but the closets just give tiny glass orbs with no magic. [ Did she explain what materia was? It's hard to remember to tell people when she's so used to everyone already knowing what it is. ] That's technically what it is - materia. At home, we can use it to cast offensive magic, heal, or summon creatures to help us fight. Mine doesn't do any of that, but it seems to be magic that's only available on my planet.

Not really. I've been distracted lately, though, so I've been turned around a little bit.

[ 'Distracted' is putting it mildly, but she's been a busy little bee recently. ]

The way I've put it in my hair is something I've done so long it's just automatic at this point. I was sure I would feel it fall out if it happened, but I didn't.

I'll try not to.

[ Actually, she's very worried, but only because she feels like she's missing a piece of herself. She's had that materia a long time, and factor in the part inside her that insists she needs it, she's a little bit of a mess. But she'll keep it to herself right now - this is the time to keep cool. ]

Do you have some time to help me look? Having an extra pair of eyes will help. [ Also, his presence will just make her feel better about everything in general. Zack is sturdy and solid, and she needs that right now. ]

[ She's actually searched her room about five times, each time getting more frustrated at herself. It's rare for her to feel like this, but she's handling it like she does everything else - giving herself tiny pep talks. Keeping her optimism isn't easy, but it helps her not panic too badly. ]

A little bit like one, yes. [ She makes sure to put the glass orb in her pocket, just in case they run into anyone else she needs to describe it to. It's like her own version of a 'lost pet' poster. ] It was given to me by my mother before she died. My birth mother.

[ Usually, she skims over that part, but she's opened up to Martha quite a bit and feels comfortable talking to her about this kind of thing. It's quite a change to how she used to deal only a few short years ago - keeping it inside, letting hardly anyone in. All part of the learning process, she thinks. ]

It's actually called Materia. It's the go to for magic where I'm from, and it can do a number of things - offensive magic spells, healing or even summoning creatures to help us fight. The one I have seems to be a dud, though. [ But she doesn't look bothered by that fact. She's fond of her little dud of a materia. ] I wish I'd brought some with me, but I'm sure Zack or Vincent might have some. I wonder if it'll work with people from different places...

[ Something to think about, at least. And they've reached the diner, Aerith pushing open the door so she can Martha can enter. ]

Maybe we should try the kitchen first.

[Tohru wouldn't like to assume that either. Most of the people she's met in Wonderland have been very kind ~~except Meg~~ and there's no reason to assume that anyone would do something as horrible as steal someone else's precious items.]

Absolutely! I'll be there as soon as I can, and then we can look together!

[And she ends the transmission and really does hurry down to the clinic. Whatever she was doing before this post can wait - Aerith needs her help!]

I've heard there was some sort of mess recently. Might have lost it then?

[ It seems he has nothing but that since he came here -- it's honestly a little strange. ]

[Because there's no way he's poking his head around that clinic, not after what'd gone on the last time he'd been there. He knows he should look in on Ruby, of course, but... He ain't touchin' that with a forty foot pole. Not yet- avoidance has always been his coping mechanism of choice, you see.]

[Kirigiri nods and moves to the area to Aerith's right to check around the roots of the plants there. There are a few creatures that live in the gardens, so perhaps if this is where the item was lost, one of them moved it around.]

Huh. Weird.

[Lots of people being absentminded lately. Or maybe that's just Annie's perception.]

I'll definitely keep an eye out for it. Have you checked the diner??

No, I remember having it afterward. [ She'd actually gone out of her way to show it to Tohru, in fact. Maybe she just left it in the diner.... ]

Hmm, it's possible I left it in the diner. I was about to check there next, since it's so close.

Okay. I'll be down checking in the library after I figure out which floor its on today.

[ That whole moving library thing still blows her mind, and while she usually finds it a little charming today she just wants everything to give her some leeway. ]

[ Aerith reaches the clinic about the same time as Tohru, her eyes periodically scanning the floor just in case. She knew she wouldn't find it sitting in the middle of the hallway, but it's automatic. ]

Ready to get started? There's not too many places it could be, and thankfully there isn't a lot of green in the clinic. [ She's keeping it light, because it makes her feel better about everything. ] I think we should start in the back of the room, look under the tables and beds.

[ Aerith finds it a little strange, too. Though there hasn't really been any threats since the riddle incident, she still feels a little on edge, like something should be happening. ]

I'm about to start searching in the library. Meet me there?

Well, I find that retracing your steps is the best method to finding things, unless there's a lot of paperwork involved.

Oh, okay. Family memento. Got it. [He can't say he has anything similar, but in a place where you're separated from family, he understand see the desire to keep hold of such things.]

I'll keep an eye out for it. Is there anything else about it? Or do you know where you last had it?

Mm.
