ship log 003 [video/action for the kitchen]
[So, uh. This cooking thing.
But do you see that? The view's a little shaky at first, because he's still getting the hang of this technology thing, but there, for your viewing delight, Wonderland, is a microwave.
Well.
It used to be a microwave.
What it is now is more a column of smoke and melted plastic and burnt things, with the coppery shine of burnt tinfoil.
Oh, and the door's off to one side, and it shouldn't be twisted like that.
And yes, he actually read the instructions. And no, they didn't make a damn bit of sense.]
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly sure that's not what it's supposed to do when it's done.
Re: Action
[Lily dug around in one of the cabinets before coming out with a box that had cinnamon rolls on the front.]
Did it look like this?
Action
Still, it looks similar, but not quite the same, as what he means.]
Close, I suppose. Not quite the same, but close. [He pauses, because really he has to ask.] Can people from your time and when not read, then? Everything here has an image branded, I suppose, of its contents, but the words themselves are mostly nonsensical.
Re: Action
[ Lily opened the box, pouring the contents into a bowl before she began mixing it. ]
It's basically a form of advertising and making it look more appealing.
Action
He stays where he is, out of the way, and leans against a counter, pulling an apple he'd stashed earlier from his pocket, before polishing it on his sleeve.] Seems a poor way to gather supplies, then. To be honest, half the things I've found nary even look edible, much less appealing.
Re: Action
[ He's already seen her use magic and this isn't exactly home so the secrecy thing isn't really an issue here. Lily pulls out a bag of popcorn and pops it in the microwave before turning back to pour the mix into a pan and then into the oven.]
They'll take about 20 minutes to bake up.
Action
Here he gives a somewhat melodramatic sigh, with an accompanying eyeroll.]
Aye, I can see now how I'll miss even hardtack, being stuck in this infernal place. And I'm guessing, too, even that be something that will either be different, or unavailable.
Re: Action
[ Lily waved a hand toward the table before she went back to the cabinets, pulling out a different box.]
These might take the edge off while you're waiting.
Action
Him. A captain. Being told to sit. It's almost painfully unfunny.
But at the box, he squints a moment, before giving a snort.]
Aye, and I suppose this is modern version of hardtack, as well. Close, but not nearly the same.
Re: Action
[ Lily dumps the popcorn into a bowl when it's finished before leaning against the counter.]
Action
He shifts in his seat, as he has to think about the question a moment. Being dead a year has had the effect of throwing off time for him.] 1747. Or 48. One or the other. I can't actually be sure.
Re: Action
[ Lily crosses the refrigerator and opens it, checking the contents herself. ]
Action
And even still, the idea of storing, as she put it, perishables, is even more hilarious.]
It's clear you've never been aboard a ship. A real ship, if they even still exist in your when, given all of this. [He gestures around the kitchen for emphasis.] If ye need all that for such...Honestly, it all seems rather silly. Most of it keeps just fine for a time without all of that nonsense.
Re: Action
[ And she's pulling the cinnamon rolls out of the oven before setting them to cool.]
Action
Sounds to me, lass, that this future of yours be a soft, horrible place to live. What merit is there, then, when the work is taken out of everything?
[Says the man who's in a business where no one really likes to work, which is why pirate crews are so large, but trifles.
But then, there's food, and at first his stomach clenches against his will, before he can will it to relax.]
Smells odd, lass, so it does
