[The network comes on to show a man’s face. His brow is creased with worry and he attempts a smile, though it’s not entirely successful.]

I understand we’re all trapped here. And this is.. Wonderland? Or so I’m told. I find that notion pretty ridiculous. No doubt we’re all being fooled. We just have to look at this logically to figure out how to get back home. I’m sure the parlor tricks here are very impressive, but we can’t honestly believe we’re being held here by magic, of all things.

Anyway, my name is John Watson. I was in the British Army and I’m a doctor. If anyone needs medical attention, let me know. I’ll do what I can to help.

[And he's just gonna make his way over there. Way he sees it, they can't have too many doctors involved, and the impression he's getting of this guy is no nonsense... He appreciates that, too.

He appears with arms crossed and sans-crossbow within a few minutes.]

[The lack of a crossbow is definitely a good idea. John doesn't have his gun with him but it won't take long for him to ask for one from the closet.]

Hello. Don't think I got your name.

[The military background is definitely there. He stands like a soldier.]

It's Daryl. [He pauses, narrowing his eyes at the building before motioning for John to follow.] C'mon. Don't wanna stay too close.

[He's aware his behavior's a little shady, but he'd rather that than accidentally spill something important where an eavesdropping Mirror could hear. Fuck that.]

Anyone talk to you 'bout the Mirrors yet?

[Daryl does seem a bit shifty, but John isn't easily intimidated. He follows.]

Mirrors? There was talk of closets...

Mirrors. When you get dumped here you get a double, they live over on the other side, behind the mirrors. [He scowls.] Buncha douchebags. They'll listen in and mess with you if you let 'em, so when you pick a room you best keep that shit covered up. Breakin' it's better but it comes back.

[He knows how this sounds. It'd sounded like bullshit when he'd arrived and he doesn't suppose it's any easier for this dude to hear. He's gotta hear it, though, and Daryl'd rather it come from him than someone like that Brittany chick who'd wanted to get all buddy-buddy with 'em.]

A double. On the other side of the mirrors.

[Yes, it did sound pretty unbelievable.]

More magic business?

That's what I said.

[He's not frustrated, not yet.]

No other explanation for it. For any of this shit, really. [And once they're out of earshot of the Mansion (and hopefully the Mirrors), Daryl gets to the point.] Everyone says we're stuck here, that there ain't a way out... Bunch of us are workin' on changin' that.

[John nods slowly.]

I'm listening.

[And definitely interested.]

What do you have planned?

Most of what we got goin' right now's gatherin' information. 'Bout the place, the Mirror side... Gotta know what we're dealin' with first.

[He frowns. The progress has been... Slow. But honestly, between the events and the being shoved to the other side- and the people leaving, though that's more Daryl's personal issue than any kind of group hurdle- it's been hard to do even that much.]

That's a good place to start.

[They need to know what they're dealing with.]

What about the.. um, Queen of Hearts? Isn't she in charge around here?

[He feels silly even saying it.]

[Not to worry, bro. It sounds fucking stupid to Daryl, too, and he's been here for a while.

He shakes his head.]

Couple people've said they don't think she's runnin' the show. Trustworthy people.

Then something has to be responsible for bringing us here. Are there no leads at all?

We got a few.

[...Which he isn't quite sure he's going to share, not until or unless John's signed that paper James had thought up. They have a safeguard in place for a reason, after all.]

So you in?

[John considers it, glancing over the man briefly. He knows nothing about this guy, but he does seem to be honest about all this.]

Yeah. Okay.

[And Daryl knows next to nothing about John... But the fact remains that the only way they're gonna get bodies into this whole resistance thing is by, you know, trusting people. A little bit.

Not entirely- everyone has to sign Jame's paper- but just a little.]

Alright. Next time we're gettin' together I'll give you a heads up. [And it probably goes without saying, but:] Best keep it quiet, especially inside.

Of course. I won't speak of it.

[Except to Sherlock, of course, but it won't be in the house.]

[Nodding, he crosses his arms. That's what he wants to hear.]

You got any more questions about this place? Can't make no promises but I been here for a while.

[John smiles a little. He appreciates the offer.]

I don't think so. From what I've heard already, there's so much to take in just for the moment. But if something comes up, would you mind if I asked then?

[Daryl nods.]

Sure. Got nothin' but time here.

[Which is just so completely ass-backwards to him it's almost mind blowing.]

Sounds pretty dull.

Can be. Give it a week or so.

[There's bound to be another event soon and when that happens, they'll all be wishing for the dullness in between.]

I'll keep an eye out for things, then.

[He doesn't like the sound of that.]

Never a bad idea. [He'd been steering them back to the front of the mansion; once they've made it there, he turns to peer out across the grounds. He's been meaning to check a few things out, namely the corresponding area on this side where the end of the line had been over on the mirrorside.] Anyway... I got some shit to do... Like I said, you think of anything you let me know.

[John nods.]

[He'll do a little exploring on his own.]
