[The video feed turned on with a scream and a kick, it managed to bounce a bit and turn to its side revealing a young looking grey haired woman in a rather traditional Japanese themed outfit.]

And what pray, do you mean by such a thing? Why is such a tsukumogami needed to speak with others?

It's not a tsukumogami. It's just a device to help us communicate.

I am not quite sure, the outside world uses a method I am unfamiliar with. However, my Lord informed me that it was about one thousand and four hundred years that we slumbered. Which began in the twenty ninth year of Empress Suiko's reign.

[So 622 AD, and would make her current time somewhere around the early part of 2000 AD. (2013)]

[That was a long time to sleep in any case. Interestingly enough, 2013 is still ahead of Minato who's from 2010.]

What is the nature of these spirits and what will placate them?

As I was told, these devices hold within it spirits, like forest spirits and such. But they are not necessarily evil, they are just bored and like to hear stories. So you should tell them a lot of your stories, things that have happened to you. The more embarrassing the better, because it entertains them.

[Usually this would be Kíli joking and pranking the poor newcomer, but this time he really does believe what he is saying.]

Telling it stories will keep it amiable? I would rather not share embarrassing ones however.... But I suppose it is not uncommon to appease such things that way. Through song, dance, tales or other such things.

I suppose you can tell them less embarrassing ones, but from what I was told, the more embarrassing the stories, the more they enjoy them. And it is better than having to make yourself look like a fool in front of others, right? At least the story-telling you can do it in your own privacy. I so far have not had any problems with the spirits in the device.

I suppose if it were in that way.... Such things are not uncommon, and I am not stranger to the demands of spirits.

I have never had to deal with spirits before, and definitely do not remember hearing them being dealt in this manner, but I suppose it makes sense.

Are spirits common where you come from?
