[In light of recent network posts, Souji's a little hesitant to claim ownership of that last event. He hesitates on screen for a minute, looking off to the side before his eyes flicker over to look into the camera.]

For the record, the speed dating went a lot better here than it did at home.

[He rubs the back of his neck, not quite embarrassed and not quite apologetic, then shrugs. It is what it is. No need to feel bad about it.]

It was kind of nice to see home again.

It's pretty cool, yeah. There are people from all kinds of things here. Apparently in some worlds, I'm from a video game.

[ Simon might gape a bit at that. ]

Dude. Seriously? What kind of video game? Are there aliens? Demons? Giant rolling balls of chaos and mayhem?

[ Hey, it's Japan, anything's possible. ]

I think she said it was an RPG? Which makes sense...

[You know, if he thinks about how his life might be adapted into a video game. Which wasn't something he'd ever thought about before.]

I guess you'd call it fantasy, maybe. [Or a dating sim, apparently.]

Fantasy like swords and dragons and Totoro's? Man, I musta missed that room in the highschool.

I'm from Japan, so you could probably find Totoro if you looked. And I fight with a sword, but there weren't really any dragons.

How hard are they to find? Or am I just supposed to go stand in the rain at a bus station or something?

[ His memory's a little sketchy. It's been a long time since he's gotten to indulge in anime. Or anything Japanese. He wasn't sure if his world even had a Japan anymore. Where was Godzilla when you needed him? ]

You do? Really? Well, that's useful. I use a baseball bat, personally. Worked better for fighting where I come from. What did you fight if it wasn't dragons?

You could just go to a department store. [Souji lets out a laugh that's more of an exhalation than an actual laugh.]

They were things called shadows. They took on all kinds of forms based on things from our world, but none of them were real things.

Oh, see, now that's just cheating. Take all the challenge of it why don't you? Besides, those aren't near big enough, I bet. [ Simon grins, unrepentant. ]

...You had to fight shadows? Man, that sounds sucky.

Not literal shadows. More like the shadow in Jungian psychology.

[Y'know. If that's a thing you know about.]

They take on a lot of different forms, but they come from human emotions.

....I have no idea what that is. But it still sounds terrifying.

So they were like... shadow manifestations of rage and greed and things like that? Were they all bad or were there positive ones?

I guess it depends on which ones you think are good and bad. Love could go either way, for instance.
