001 ♚ [video & action]
[ After calming down from his initial arrival, and learning just exactly where he is, Klaus thought it was about time to check out this little communicator he'd been given. The recent troubles with the mirror side and the riddle are none of his concern, since that was before his arrival, no matter how recent.
When the video starts, he looks to be in deep concentration. An expression that soon changes into something a little more smug when he notices it's working. ]
I'm to understand this broadcast can be seen by all who have the unfortunate luck to be here. [ He seems pretty amiable, leaning back a little in his chair as he rubs a hand over his chin. ] I'll admit, this isn't my preferred method of communication, but I believe there's a saying about Romans and what not that would apply to the situation.
[ Klaus glances over his shoulder, obviously looking at someone off camera, and his mouth curves into a smirk that seems at odds with his friendly behavior. ]
This is as good a time as any for me to get to know everyone, isn't it? So, out with it. Tell me something about yourselves. [ In truth, he really isn't interested in facts or making new friends - he's there to observe and judge his fellow captives. ] As for myself, my name is Klaus. I assume several of you have met my brother, Elijah.
[ Anyone who's had a run-in with Elijah will be getting extra attention from Klaus, how lucky for them. ]
If you would all indulge me just a bit, I would be most grateful.
[ He doesn't sound grateful - he sounds just the slightest bit condescending. He ends the feed there.
It's entirely possible if anyone happens to make their way to the fifth floor bar, he'll be parked right at the counter, downing a few glasses of scotch. ]

video;
Pan, then. [ His smile is just as friendly as can be. ] Care to elaborate on this unpleasant vacation? I'd like to get a feel for what to expect around here.
video;
These two party animals are living on the privileged side. Otherwise, they'd be two big fish in a small pond already crammed full of other psycho fish. A fish tank full of piranhas, anyone?]
You might want to make a list. It's a long one!
[Peter talks as he walks, eyes alight with jolliness.]
I'm no native, but if they were going to advice about settling into their world, I'd wager it'd start with expecting the unexpected. The Queen of Hearts, for one, can send the shadow selves she has under her control through the mirrors whenever she pleases. A person and its reflection can't normally exist in the same place at once--now that you're here and you have one, too, that means you could end up trapped on the other side of the glass any time.
If you just arrived, you missed all the fun.

Peter's enthusiastic story is met with a speculative look on Klaus' part. Someone this age wouldn't typically be so gleeful about such things, which meant there was something under the surface here. ]
Ah, the mirrors. Not a usual occurrence, their crossing over. [ He's done a little homework. ] From what I understand, they seem to enjoy stirring up trouble. Shame I didn't arrive earlier, I'm sure it would have been a most illuminating experience.
[ He didn't like having limited access to that mirror side, unable to see for himself just what these shadow selves were like. ]
There wouldn't happen to be a way to communicate with them, would there?

One of many things a keen newcomer would make note of, he's sure.]
A unique situation. If you believe what you hear, this world may under threat by a virtually unstoppable beast. Those mirror duplicates may be reflections of our darkest selves, but even they don't want to die--when their queen tells them to come to this side to search for a weapon, they come.
[It just so happens that this is a topic Peter has pondered over recently. He doesn't mind speaking of it and being informative at the same time, the latter more a result of the former than of any real desire of his own.
His smile is reassuring, as though Klaus' regret is something to be taken seriously.]
Oh, don't worry, you're in for a show regardless. Just wait a while. As for them, you can always try writing them a message where they can see. Word to the wise, though, don't go leaving any valuables near your mirror. They can still reach through the looking glass if they see fit.

It'll certainly be a good way to pass the time. ]
An unstoppable beast, a weapon everyone's so desperate to get their hands on. If I'm recalling this correctly, there was a poem in the novels that dealt with such things. [ Basically nonsense that shouldn't be taken seriously, and yet he's here in some version of Wonderland where there are Queens and mirrors. Should he really be surprised if the Jabberwocky was around?
Actually, yes, he is a little surprised. Not that it shows in his face or his voice, since he appears to be completely at ease. An act he's perfected through the centuries. ] I'll hazard a guess here and say that this beast is nowhere to be found until it wants to be found - or until someone wants it to be.

[He nods his head. Having read the books himself after coming to this world, Peter should know.
It's difference from the actual Jabberwocky, of course, but so much of everything is. That's the joy and frustration of similar worlds.]
On both counts, I'd wager. You're getting the swing of it.

[ He sounds entertained, at least. Which is better than irritated or angry, two emotions he got out of his system for the time being during his arrival in the woods. ]
If the books give a vague idea of who or what to expect, am I to assume a chess match is on the horizon soon?
[ It's not a serious question - he realizes that there hasn't been a way to predict what Wonderland will do next. Which is very in character for Wonderland. ]

[Adaptability is not a trait even some of the more powerful names around here have, for all of their reputation. Just look at the Evil Queen.
Anyone who can adapt quickly is a cut above the rest.
At Klaus' next comment, Peter's smile broadens, amusement showing through. For Wonderland, chess is a rather cliche game.]
Actually, I believe it's already been done. Before my time.
