File E8492247 - Peanuts & Crackerjacks [video/action]
[ This is probably not the time or the place for this kind of thing, but that doesn't seem to be stopping John from addressing the network. First, he holds up a drawing for the camera. ]
This is a baseball diamond—[ His face appears a moment later as he pulls away the drawing. ] —used to play baseball, which is a game for those that might not know. If it's not familiar, that's okay — I can teach you — but if it is familiar, I'd like to know that, too.
We're talkin' a ball, a bat, a big field, some players — two teams of nine's standard, but you could make due with five an' five — and an afternoon to play. That's all. [ He almost sounds like he's — hehe — making a pitch by the way it rolls off his tongue. John smiles, tipping his head a little. ] And some rules, of course.
[ He brings the picture back up as he continues his explanation, his voice hurried in such a way that he's certain to confuse anyone trying to follow along at home. ]
The goal is to hit the ball with the bat so it goes between these foul lines and then to make your way 'round this diamond, crossin' one of each of these "bases" — first, second, third, in that order, but not necessarily all at once — 'til you get to the last one, called home plate. Crossing home plate earns you a point. The team with the most points wins.
[ John's face appears again as the drawing disappears off-screen once more. ]
Simple, right?
So, if you're interested in playin' a game or two — even just watchin' one to take your mind offa things for a bit — lemme know.
Or, if you wanna toss the ball 'round for a bit, come out front. That's where I'll be 'til it gets too dark.
[[ OOC: Since we're probably not going to actually play out any baseball games, there's a sign up area in the comments if your character wants to be involved. You are absolutely welcome to sign up characters without tagging into this post — there is no obligation to thread here in order to be involved. If I get enough characters signed up, then I'll do a mock game with a random outcome and post the results here, probably in the OOC community! ]]

[action]
You wanna bat or just toss the ball 'round a bit? I'd be fine with either.
Re: [action]
I'd like to try batting. Been a while since I used a baseball bat for it's intended purpose.
[action]
[ Blake snaps up a glove and a couple balls, hands over the bat, and then jogs out to a safe enough distance so he can pitch. ]
Batter up.
[ But, certainly, he'll wait until Sam's settled before tossing out the first ball. And it's not going to have as much heat on it as Blake's used to throwing. ]
[action]
When Blake throws it, it's slow and he still misses, misjudging the distance and the size of it.]
Damn. This is harder than I remember.
[action]
[ John picks up another ball, holding it aloft and grinning like a fool. Damn, he loves this game. ]
Here it comes—
[ Maybe a bit more heat this time, but only because he knows Sam to be a quick learner and expects he'll catch on quick. ]
[action]
You like overwhelming odds then?
[The throw comes and this time he manages to glance it. It's not a great hit, but it's better than before.]
[action]
Not sure I've bothered with odds better'n overwhelming. [ He chuckles. ] You've met Crowley, so... [ That should be illustration enough of his point. ]
[action]
Heh, fair point. Overwhelming odds so give the best adrenaline rushes too.
[action]
He whistles as it makes a nice cut to his left. ]
Nice. Don't think you gotta worry much 'bout hittin'. How's your arm? You wanna try pitchin' a few?
[action]
My arm is... probably not as good as my ability to hit things. But sure. Can't hurt.
[action]
[ He tosses a mitt in Sam's direction. ]
We'll just throw the ball a while. Then if you're comfortable, you can always pitch at me.
Re: [action]
I was never really that into sports in school. Or university. More into video games. The radio.
Now Jack, he has a mean swing with a cricket bat.
no subject
[ Putting some room between them, he waits until Sam seems ready and tosses the ball in his direction. ]
Haven't played many video games. Think I missed the boat on that one.
no subject
[He tosses the ball a couple of times, getting used to the weight of it and then throws it to Blake.]
You're missing out. Video games are fun!
no subject
You gotta spend a lotta time playin' 'em, don't you? Most of 'em, at least. And I'm a pretty busy guy...
[ Not that he has to be busy. He just chooses to be busy. ]
It's worth it?
no subject
[he shrugs at him.]
Yeah, they're fun! Some of them have pretty good stories too. You should play Portal.
no subject
[ Strangely enough, he's seen a portal or two in his time. Once in his room, a few years back. ]

no subject
Portal gun, lab... If you tell me you're name's "Chell" in this game, I'm gonna bean you with the ball. [ Not really, but come on. Seriously? ]
no subject
Alright, I won't tell you that. I take it you've played it then?
no subject
[ That might be the most intense reaction Blake's ever had to mild news. He hides his face behind the mitt and mutters for a second. Possibly some string of curses. A moment later, his hand drops again and he shakes his head. ]
Christ, no, I met her, though. First year here, 'round the end of March, I think. She— she saved me on a— a very bad day.
[ Mind. Blown. ]
Jesus, that's intense. She was from a game? Really?
no subject
[That is a weird reaction. It's just a- Oh, apparently it isn't just a game and now Sam is slightly concerned.]
What?! Seriously?
...I guess there's a bunch of comic book and movie characters here but... really?
no subject
[ So much laughter, so much. Blake's actually forced to put his hands on his knees, he's taken to giggling so much. It figures, doesn't it?
When he finally recovers, he waves a hand and waits to get the ball back. ]
—not that I can say anything, bein' a movie character myself. That was an experience. Just as soon forget it, to be honest.
no subject
He just drops the ball and stares at Blake.}
What? You're... what movie?
Oh my god, what if I'm from a movie?
no subject
[ Blake's pretty certain he doesn't want all of his secrets shared with Wonderland through an artfully awful representation of events he remembers happening. ]
Seriously. Wouldn't subject anyone to that kinda crap. It was awful, what I saw of it.
