[The woman who pops onto the screen? She doesn't look at all pleased. She's disheveled and incredibly sore, but at least she's been able to have a shower since things have returned to normal. She'd woken up in her own bed, having muddied up the sheets -- so, okay, she's still pretty annoyed.

Still, it had occurred to her that she'd done something a little bit irresponsible the night before. It had been motivated by anger, certainly, but it isn't as if she'd killed the man -- still, she needs to get it off her chest and just make sure that he's -- you know, still alive.

She clears her throat.]

Uh, all right -- this message is especially for Alistair, or for anyone from his world -- now that this thing is working again.

I was attacked in the forest last night by someone accusing me of being a demon, so I thought that you guys might know him. I knocked him out and left him tied up outside the tavern, so I don't know where he'd be now.

[She scowls.]

And just to clear it up for anyone who might be wondering ... I'm not a demon.

[She motions to her hair.]

I mean, do you see a set of pointy horns? I have no interest in your immortal soul, okay? So further attempts to end me? Not going to be dealt with so gently.

[It's a bit of posturing since she's never actually killed anyone, but...they don't need to know that.]

[She's definitely a meta-human, for his benefit -- and at least this version of her isn't keen on death and destruction.]

[ he frowns for a moment before he hears her next words and sighs. he didn't expect otherwise, most people didn't take kindly to meta-humans on his earth, either. and while barry could understand why, some have been good hearted.

He thinks of Ronnie and Bette and his heart clenches ]can't do it, you've done nothing wrong.

Yeah. The 'next stage in evolution', depending who you ask.

[She just shrugs her shoulders. Erik, more than anyone else, knew what she was about to say.]

Sometimes that doesn't matter. It's what people are afraid of that matters. The majority.

[She's 1000% in agreement with you, Barry.]

Were you born like this?

[ it's the same as a meta-human but at the same time, different. he could see how somewhere in a terrible, twisted future a man like eobard thawne could think metahumans the evolution of normal human beings. it's a thought that sends a wave of cold anger in barry, as thoughts of thawne often do. how many people he had did this too on purpose. however attached barry is to his speed, there was also bette who was confused and frightened until her death, ronnie who was left nearly insane and lonely, stein who was trapped in his ronnie's mind - ]

I'm not afraid of you.

[She glances down at her hand, letting the skin there blend out to its unnatural-natural peachy tone. The colour spreads slowly up to about her forearm, and then drifts back down to disappear at her fingertips.]

...that's a hard question.

Yes, I was born a mutant. I didn't look like this until I was old enough for my powers to manifest. I got to feel normal until they did, and then my family tried to kill me.

[Her smile is tinged with bitterness, but she appreciates the sentiment behind his statement.]

Good. I'm not the scariest person here by a long shot.

[ there is the righteous anger that comes to surface at once. he can understand people fear metahumans but for their own families to turn against them - if that were to happen, would barry even be the flash at all? he is only strong because of their support. ]

[People had been too eager to find someone else to hate since the Second World War had ended and they weren't allowed to hate the Jewish people, maybe. She doesn't answer his outburst.]

[She doesn't use the name her parents gave her much any more.]

Mystique - my name's Barry.

[ he sighs a little, runs a hand through his hair ]

[She manages a wane smile.]

I'm sure I could arrange that.

[ that shouldn't be too hard. they are more similar than they are different and if she's at risk, he wants to be able to help. ]

[She raises an eyebrow at the screen.]

In that case, why don't you meet me outside the front in a little while?

[ now all that's left is to try and calculate how much is a little time and not run over there too quickly ]

[True to her word, in about ten minutes she's outside at the front. She's wearing little except a wrapping over the wound in her thigh as she exits the building, glancing around.

If this is an ambush, it's a damned good one.]

[ ok so maybe not metahuman but mutant but to barry she is still so awesome. he could imagine how excited cisco would have been to meet her ( he might cringe as he imagines several inappropriate comments he might have said ) but for now, it seems it's up to barry.

he comes out in jeans, a buttoned up shirt and a pair of All Star shoes. ]

[ he'll raise both arms. see. unarmed ]

[She can't help that she's still on-edge from the events of the past few days -- she's glad he at least shows he doesn't have any visible weapons.

She lifts a hand from where her arms had been crossed over her chest, waving.]

[ he comes to a halt a few steps from her, doesn't want to come off as threatening or disrespectful. he sighs, runs a hand though his hair ]

where I come from, my earth, there are people who are - well - different than everyone else. Though I guess the difference is none of them was born like this, something happened and they became this way, each with a different skill that's - beyond human.

[ eobard thawne, he thinks. what they all have in common is eobard thawne. ]

is it the same for -

[ gesturing towards her ]

mutants?

[She's glad for the space as much as she was for his being plain that he wasn't armed. She tilts her head to him, curious.]

A -- skill. I guess you could say that, sure.

[She nods after a moment.]

Some have a handful of abilities, but I guess they're all linked.

It's why we call them metahumans. they were born human but - changed by circumstances.

[ but barry wouldn't have given up his speed, not when he's already so invested in being able to save people's lives. ]

Other than apparently looking like some sort of demon?

[She half-laughs and shrugs her shoulders.]

[She brings her hand up so he can see it, lets the skin ripple from blue into a tone closer to Barry's.]

You don't look like a demon.

[ he gives her a look, already used to it. but then, barry is so keen on anything unusual and special. special, not evil. not when true demons can sometimes wear the form of a regular human

( a man in a yellow suit with eyes that shine in red ) ]

That's amazing, the cells are just changing?

Well, not according to you. Apparently they come in all shapes and sizes.

[She smiles. That's -- one of the more accurate thoughts about her mutation.]

More or less that, yeah. I can change at will -- appearance, voice, the whole nine yards.

A demon is something bad, either way. You're not bad, just different.

[ his smile turns a little more excited as she explains ]

Oh, that is awesome, so the cells are basically stem cell, they can divide and change but it's all under your control? that's amazing. that takes microbiology to a whole new level, can I see again?

That's what they tell me, or something like that. Not sure what a 'stem cell' is. Maybe that's a post-1972 thing.
