After that last little party, and now with Sharon’s dojo up and ready, I guess it’s time to troll for trainees. I’m looking for anyone interested in learning any level self-defense, but especially those of you with zero experience.

And if you just need to work out some frustration without breaking your hands, I can work with that too.

Walk-ins welcome. I’ll be in rooms 17 and 19 every morning and evening. Stop by, check it out and we’ll see what we can do.

( action | open through apr/may - please date your top level! )
These next two months are all about hand-to-hand, finding balance and feeling comfortable in your body. Faith’s existing trainees are tasked with regular tai chi routines along with very simplistic self-defense. How to break holds, how to apply non-lethal hits-- anything that focuses on breaking away and then getting out of an ugly situation.

Workouts and training, though simple, are not always a cakewalk. In order to build muscle memory, it’s repetitive-- but after a tough session, people can still feel raw and exposed. Faith is kind to her students, but not easy. If she’s felt her companion was not giving the effort they should, she’ll call them out. If she feels there’s something mental that needs to be addressed, she’ll call them out.

If they need to grab a coffee to bounce back, that's great too.

All in all, after a few sessions, Faith's trainee may begin to see that this is not all about physical fitness, but about learning to survive this hell in general.

Hmm, well. When I need to fight with my wand, I usually have to run around and hide behind things. You know-- keep my distance so I can aim, and so I have enough time and breath to say the incantations. I can do a few spells without them, and some don't need careful aim, but largely they do. So if someone gets up close, I can be in real trouble. But maybe if I practice, I can add a little punch to the hand-to-hand sort of thing with my magic to make up for, well, not being terribly gifted in the-- [He flexes one arm. It's not impressive.] --muscular area.

Not at all.

[Sirius smirks a little, appreciating the innuendo even as he wonders if he looks any older despite knowing he can't possibly. But damn if it wouldn't be nice to look more his actual age right about now.

He follows her into the training center and holds his wand up.]

Do you have something I could aim at and that you aren't particularly attached to?

[Sirius sends a (slightly cocky) look between Faith and the dummies.]

If you say so.

[Aaaand proceeds to shout a spell that sends a blast of pure force at the dummies, sending them bursting across the room, landing in pathetic, haphazard piles.]

Course, there's only so much you can do with the inorganic. I could set them on fire, if you'd like. Or levitate them. Or turn them into a snowman.

I mean, I do hide behind things when I can.

[Geez, he's not a moron. He holds his wand up, aiming it at the ceiling.]

It's like a gun but with better ammo, I'd say. And while I'm better at punching at the things that get too close, that leaves something to be desired, generally.

[You could say his punches lack punch when compared to magic.]

[His ears feel a bit hot, but he just waves a hand.]

Volume doesn't really matter in most cases. It helps for focus, though. Why?

Well...no. Partly because it's not impossible to turn the magic back onto yourself if you aren't careful. So if I lit my fist on fire it would, you know, be just as on fire for me as for the person I'm attempting to punch with my flaming fist. I'd likely do more damage to myself, that way.

It might come down to figuring out better spells. But I figured I'd ask for help for the physical parts, at least.

Ohoh! But see, if we talk about it like DnD, we'll both be terrible at it by proxy.

[If their games and Dipper's annoyance during them are any sign.]
