narcissistictendencies: (You're on the list?)

[The feed opens to Tony's form from about the waist up. His sleeves are rolled up and his left arm is covered in burns that look to be about a week old. He's holding a strange device about eight inches long. It's encased entirely in a shell and seems to have a small domed sensor on top.]

I just wanted to say, if you start seeing these around, it's not a tiny alien invasion, they're sensors. I'm setting them around key locations in the hopes of finding a way to predict these event things. In light of the most recent catastrophe, I think it's only a reasonable step towards surviving something like that again. There has to be something preceding these things, right? Like a low-pressure system before a storm. We get a warning, sure. Sometimes, anyway? Maybe, if we can figure out what causes them or where they're coming from, we can delay or stop them?

[It's... all he's got, okay? He hates feeling like he isn't in control and he hates that people die because of it, even more.]

I'm... [He sighs and pinches the bridge of his nose, the beginnings of a sleepless headache coming on.] officially out of retirement. Hold the "I told you so"s. You know who you are.

not a bad idea.

[He knows there's pretty much zero percent chance of it working but you can fake positivity sometimes.]

downside being that you'd need to wait a couple of events to collect enough data for anything conclusive.

[Correlation =/= causation and all.]

[ As they continue to smirk and talk around the actual issue. ]

You're no fun. What else am I supposed to use for target practice then?

[ Besides you know, actual targets. ]

Says you. Who says we didn't have a pool set up that you didn't know about?

So, stabbing one that was following me was bad then?

[ It's an innocent question and Tony gets an innocent face that is anything but innocent. ]

[Okay.

Okay, this is happening.

This is so totally super happening.

Agent Romanoff told him that he needed to get in touch with Tony Stark (SHE CALLED HIM TONY) and help out with mechanics.

He turns the video feed on.

And then he turns it off. CAN'T. ABORT. THIS IS IRON MAN.

Voice maybe? Voice means communicating without eye contact.]

Um. If I might.

In-interject. I. um. I was reviewing the design--

[He's breathing heavily enough to trigger hyperventilation. The voice feed snaps off. BE COOL, FITZ.

Text. Text is less intimidating. In and out, that's all it'll take.]

Placement is flawed. A ground-based network requires triangulation for detection in power swells. Networking on this scale tends to underestimate the number of flashes, especially if pulses move as cloud-to-cloud lightning does.

[He sends it without stopping to go back and read what he's written. DID HE JUST MAKE IRON MAN HATE HIM??? This is so stressful.]

[WHY DON'T HUMANS UNDERSTAND HER IMPORTANT HOMEWORLD TERMINOLOGY.]

Like those, only rounder with detachable limbs. They're for surveillance. [she ticks off on her tiny fingers.] Also repair, remote hacking, data collection... It depends on the type.

I haven't been able to find the correct parts to make them here. [because she can't be satisfied with inferior Earth technology and the closets won't give her too much to fit her specifications. hilariously, it would probably give her a hundred robonoids if she'd fucking ask.

but why should she trust wonderland to give her decent equipment?? SHE MUST BUILD IT HERSELF.]

Freya.

[She considers for a moment, because he's not wrong about magic being energy, just in a different form.]

If you're interested in testing it with magic, I might be able to assist you with that.

[There are so many scientists around here. It makes him nostalgic. It's also starting to make him feel kind of silly for being so cagey about his own scientific background.]

if nothing else, we might get an extra day to prepare. even if we don't know what we're preparing for, it's something at least.

heh, thanks. decided a buggy life just wasn't for me.

[She's looking very curiously at the device, like she's trying to puzzle it out by the video.]

So do t-they sense magical shifts? Or, uhm, temporal anomalies? Or d-do they just... sense any c-change, at all?

[Alphys is really fascinated by how they come together- the design looks so simple but if it really does track the anomalies here, she's interested in it.]
