[Winter was now over and spring had just started. Minato kind of missed the snow, but at least the weather was cool and comfortable instead of being too cold. For a change of pace as he wandered outside, now that the space event was over, he decided to head to the Checkerboard Hills. He hadn't been there often. It was time to check it out again.

That is, if checking it out meant doing a once-over on the checkered patterns from dark to light, then ending up laying in one of the darker square patches, his comm device off to the side as he looked up at the sky.

It's spring here and spring at home. School would be starting again, if he were there and time progressed.

Were these questions even fair? Did he have too much time on his hands, playing around with or thinking about 'what if' in a place that may make him forget his existence here at all?]

..... Would you rather be dead at home or alive here?

[ she smiles and nods in agreement.

a morbid subject for some, jane mirrors minato's interest in trying to feel out these very abstract queries. it's a lot to chew, and sometimes talking to strangers (are anyone in wonderland truly strangers?) can be more beneficial than addressing it with friends.
]

When I first arrived here, I was recognized by people I didn't know. I had left only months before-- but I couldn't remember anything from that time. If you left, you might still come back, but having forgotten everything. Do you think your position would change if you learned you had already been here and lived a life you can't remember?

What happens if no one's left with any memories?

[ if the rumors, the visions, and the state of alice are true indicators of their futures maybe none of this has purpose. or maybe all that matters are the little things, after all. ]

Assuming that I retain only memories made in Wonderland, I'd still be doing what I'm doing now, I suppose.

[ she purses her lips as she contemplates. without the memory of home, but with the knowledge she's gained in wonderland-- it tracks, mostly. ]

I'd continue researching, but there's a good chance I wouldn't know why, I suppose. If I thought I always existed here, I wouldn't be so driven to find a way out.

As a physicist, I can do my work pretty much anywhere.

[ now her head bobs back and forth as she explains. ]

Though Wonderland offers particular challenges. Ones that I'm certainly not used to.

Minato, hi. I'm Dr. Jane Foster. Please, call me Jane.

[ and as is probably common for academics and scientists, she answers his question with a question of her own: ]

Do you know anything about particle physics?
interspatial: (060)

[personal profile] interspatial 2017-04-25 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
That's great! That's really all I study, still. So, you've got some fundamentals on energy and forces and probably matter too.

[ jane's hands flit about, hitting the beats on each point she makes. she loves her work very much but she also loves fostering others' interest in it. ]

As an astrophysicist, you're basically applying those studies to the universe beyond earth. And particle physics very basically is the study of the smallest stuff, down to the sub-atomic level.

[ she nods, and then her mouth opens in surprise before she chuckles a little. ]

Oh, PhD-- I don't really work well with the biological sciences. My bedside manner would probably leave a lot to be desired.

[ oh that's not something she gets every day. it's been awhile, but jane rattles off this comically long and very nonsensical made-up thing: ]

Measurement of the Quantum Effects of Long-Duration Gravitational-Wave Transients Associated with Magnetic Anomalies as Indications of Traversable Wormholes.

<333 oh good bc someone who knows things will cringe when they stumble across this xD

[personal profile] interspatial 2017-05-01 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it's complicated but-- it's also years of work compounded over time. It's not anything special, I just stuck to what I love.

[ and she'll argue that point until she's blue in the face. science isn't hard. it's the most accessible discipline that requires only boundless curiosity. (and maybe a dash of obsession in jane's case.) ]

And it secured me some resources to go off and keep doing what I love.

[ the thought of home and of getting there is something she hasn't been able to think of much for months, now. she nods, but it's stuttered. as if she's unsure. ]

Yeah... I can continue it anywhere, really.

Well, if you have any interest in the sciences, you're more than welcome to visit the shared lab on the fourth floor.

[ she hasn't done this in awhile, and it seems to perk her up a little. ]

It's not only physics, though that's how it started. There are biochemists and engineers, and I think it's still expanding.

Nope, not at all!

[ which probably doesn't sound all that convincing? considering leo fitz exists. ]
