≛ (  VIDEO  )

[ on what must be one of the first days of relative peace, a feed opens to present a newcomer. Leia is dressed as she normally would, all in white, collar high. The clothes she came with have been tossed away but there is nothing she can do about the ugly bruise on her neck, circular, red. it would turn to purple in a few days and is a dead giveaway for a collar of metal that bit into her skin until very recently.

her palms tell a story too, skin peeling at places, red and irritated from when she pulled on metal. However, it'd be difficult to pass her for the slave girl whose part she'd been forced to play. There's an air of authority to her even now.

Oh, and there's the blaster she tucks just beneath her belt, a touch of black on an otherwise white palette. ]

Well, this is rich.

[ biting with just a hint of sass but then, she seems to realize her message is finally being sent. ]

I see no practical reason for so much technology when we all live in the same cell.

[ this is what she calls this, a cell. A prison is a prison, vast as it may be. ]

But if you hear my message, know I mean you no harm. I understand I've come in a time of great peril [ somehow, she senses it in the very air around the halls ]. My own world is in great peril as well, it is urgent that they'll receive any help available if they're to see our mission done.

[ a beat. ]

We share the same predicament, I ask that we share information as well. If there is anything worth knowing about this system, I'd hear it and if any assistance is needed, I will supply.

[Georgia nods a greeting, unsmiling under her sunglasses, as she presses a few buttons on her phone.]

Well, this prison's got a welcome brochure that should help cover the basics. I'm sending it over now.

[attached: welcome.pdf]

Time doesn't move on the outside while you're here, so your world's great peril won't get any worse. Small comfort, I know.

She's in charge of part of it. But not our part. This is... not a normal prison, as I'm sure you've noticed. It's gilded as fuck, for starters, and there's no one keeping us here. Just... [She grimaces.] Magic.

As far as the time thing, well, the main reason is I was sent back at one point. You lose your memories when you go home, and I didn't so much as notice a ripple of discontinuity. Also a week passed here while months passed back home. It's got to be some fourth dimensional shit that's pretty far past my scientific capabilities.

[She offers a short nod.] Name's Georgia Mason. Any questions you have, I can try to answer, but there's a hell of a lot more we don't know than we do.

[....Princess Leia. Ah. That would explain the vague familiarity of her face. Star Wars and its associated sequels were all old (or classic) long before the Rising. Georgia's seen it, but like most fictional works, it largely didn't have an impact on her. It's always a little weird watching the old movies where people are killed and don't get back up to eat anyone. Even when those movies take place in space.

Still, it's enough of a cultural touchstone that she certainly knows who Princess Leia is, as well as some key plot points. Darth Vader's her father, she's kissed her brother, some old meme about sand and Obi-Wan not giving fucks.

Her expression doesn't really change under her sunglasses. If there's anything she's good at, it's being unreadable. She has no doubt Leia will get some uncomfortable nerd shrieking, but it won't be from George.]

Over half a year, now. And yes, magic. There likely is some sort of scientific explanation, but no one's found it yet. Believe me, I don't like it any more than you do. Magic's not a thing where I'm from outside of fiction.

[WELL. YOU'RE ASKING THE RIGHT PERSON.]

The recent event wasn't exactly an event in the traditional sense. I wrote an article about it, actually.

[She sends over a link to the post in question.]

How much have you been told about Mirrors and how events usually work?

There's a lot to tell. Dumping it all at once is hard for all parties involved.

They're not supposed to cross without the Queen's permission. When given the opportunity, they tend to... [her lips purse together in strict disapproval] make the most of the opportunity.

When they see their reflection, they're forced back to the Mirror side. There's no way to keep them from crossing right back, though. [The Mirrors have a lot of advantages. But Reals have more freedom. Georgia wouldn't want to switch.]

But hurting them doesn't affect us, no. They're not actually connected to us. Just... copies.

[Copies that share some of their memories even though it never really happened. Well. That's a disquieting thought. Georgia shoves it away.]

You can just talk. They can always hear. But the only way they can talk back is writing on the mirrors.

They do, but their network's separate from ours. More intranet than internet. [Those words probably don't mean anything to Leia, do they? Well. She's trying.]

That would be Evelyn O'Connell. You can find her in the library.
