≛ (  VIDEO  )

[ on what must be one of the first days of relative peace, a feed opens to present a newcomer. Leia is dressed as she normally would, all in white, collar high. The clothes she came with have been tossed away but there is nothing she can do about the ugly bruise on her neck, circular, red. it would turn to purple in a few days and is a dead giveaway for a collar of metal that bit into her skin until very recently.

her palms tell a story too, skin peeling at places, red and irritated from when she pulled on metal. However, it'd be difficult to pass her for the slave girl whose part she'd been forced to play. There's an air of authority to her even now.

Oh, and there's the blaster she tucks just beneath her belt, a touch of black on an otherwise white palette. ]

Well, this is rich.

[ biting with just a hint of sass but then, she seems to realize her message is finally being sent. ]

I see no practical reason for so much technology when we all live in the same cell.

[ this is what she calls this, a cell. A prison is a prison, vast as it may be. ]

But if you hear my message, know I mean you no harm. I understand I've come in a time of great peril [ somehow, she senses it in the very air around the halls ]. My own world is in great peril as well, it is urgent that they'll receive any help available if they're to see our mission done.

[ a beat. ]

We share the same predicament, I ask that we share information as well. If there is anything worth knowing about this system, I'd hear it and if any assistance is needed, I will supply.

--Yeah, I don't know if anyone's warned you specifically about this part yet, but there's something of another dimension beyond those mirrors. My suggestion would be to get into the habit of breaking them regularly.

[Friendly advice from someone who's had more than his fill of the residents of that reflected world.]

That's right. [So far as the recurrence is concerned, anyway. As for preparation, Rip pauses, draws in a longer breath.] Only to a limited degree. There are general preparations you can make, like storing up tinned foods or making sure you're armed.

As for each specific event? Normally we get some form of warning: a cryptic message from one of the characters of this particular world. But we can't stop whatever is meant to happen; only endure it while it does.

[And if anyone has proof otherwise, Rip certainly has not seen it during his tenure there.]

Which isn't to say that we're always unable to fight during the event itself. Sometimes survival does indeed require it.

Within an hour. [She's right on that account. Rip's just in the habit of breaking his mirrors routinely.] They'd prevent you from being seen, in theory. Not sure what happens when it comes to being overheard.

[Since he personally hasn't been put through a trip to the mirrorside just yet, thankfully.]

I believe there are rooms being used as food storage on each floor of the mansion. Room 29. [Her next question, however, makes it clear that she's still yet to give the grounds a thorough level of exploration.]

If there is, we can't access it. There's something of a barrier said to be around the mansion and it's surrounding area, extending up into the atmosphere. We're rather limited on how far we can wander in any one direction.

Indeed.

[Rip can appreciate the multi-tasking, if nothing else.]

That largely depends on the person. There are quite a few that hold down regular jobs here, despite the lack of an economy of any kind. Others try and find other ways to pass the days without going made from the tedium.

[He says the next part carefully; if she's already been informed, the Rip will be confirming what she's heard. If she hasn't, then it will be an unfortunate revelation.]

At least between the events.

Or at the very least, have us questioning the very nature of reality itself.

[Even Rip has to admit that not all the events have featured potentially fatal situations. The trip to that one space station had actually almost been pleasant on the whole.

Yet that hardly makes it a fair trade-off.]

There are efforts being made towards more productive ends—although they are in some ways responsible for the chaos you've picked up on. [And thus a point of contention now among the mansion's residents.] A pair of scientists attempted to create a way to escape this dimension, which did not go according to plan.

[Or, to their plan, if Georgia Mason had been correct in her reporting.]

Unfortunately. [No, Rip is not at all a fan.] Supposedly, the key is to accept that, given enough time, nothing will work as you expect it to.

[Rip's still having trouble with that concept.

She puts on a good face, however. Leia hardly seems daunted by the prospect, which is better than how many fare upon their arrival. Rip personally had gotten rather irritated by the whole thing.

Taking apart his closet in an attempt to see how it functioned had been a good way to let off steam in the aftermath of his own introduction.]

Yes; it would seem as if the ruler of that side of this dimension doesn't do things in small measures. [Not if she saw fit to unleash so much of her force in the wake of a single portal opening.] It's been one of the more unpleasant experiences we've all had as of late, I think.

Indeed I do. [Followed by a short nod when Leia clarifies the woman's title. But it does bring up another hurdle, of sorts. Many come from worlds where the story of Alice exists in some variant or form, perhaps even several. But if the flurry of texts he's gotten from Ray Palmer are any indication?

This woman may not have that particular frame of reference.]

For many of us, this world shares a great number of similarities with a work of fiction that exists where we come from. Specifically, certain novels by a man named Lewis Carroll. In them, the Queen of Hearts is a rather vicious ruler with short temper—which would seem to be a trait shared by the Queen of Hearts that exists here.
