He's stroking it lovingly as he looks at it in its temporary pot.]

Hello, glorious citizens of Wonderland! It seems a lot of us have gotten mysterious gifts from an equally mysterious RQ, and it's such a tantalizing state to be in, isn't it?

[He delicately nudges a bud, untangling it from another leaf so that it can stand out prominently.]

And what a fitting gift this is for me! Flowers for a star! But not just a simple bouquet, oh no; a potential unending supply of beautiful white roses, just for me!

[He moves the pot to the forefront of the camera and lets it take up the whole frame so all its details are on display.]

I don't know who this RQ is but clearly they have excellent taste in being such a big fan of mine. I love you too, RQ!

[Mettaton then pops back into frame and blows a kiss to the camera. Presumably for this RQ he is talking about; how embarrassing.]

So! My question to you all is: now that I am done showing this off, what should I do with it? Should I plant this bush in the gardens for everyone to see? Maybe erect a plaque on it so everyone knows it is mine? Or should I keep it here and put it in a bigger pot to lavish my room in more elegance? Oh~! The possibilities!

[Mettaton pauses in his quiet cooing over the bush to give the device he has propped a small look of alarm.]

The Red Queen? She exists? I thought we only had the Queen of Hearts?

[At the last of Dorian's words, Mettaton pouts a little and puts a protective arm around the small bush.]

It depends on what alterations there need to be made.

Logically speaking yes. After all, we did see the White Queen in some form around Christmas last year.

[That's really cute, and Dorian hesitates to go on. But...]

... There was a scene. Where the cards were trying to correct a mistake by painting the roses red.

[Happy now, Tim Drake?]

Perhaps someone received some paint we could use?

That is true... though that was only in our dreams, wasn't it?

[Which he has been desperately trying to pretend weren't real in any fashion.]

Why would you bother painting the roses red? Why not plant new ones if you needed to?

[That sounds rather silly, overall, though he nods a bit.]

I can't say I remember everything that happened in that book but that does seem to fit with the nonsensical theme of it all.

If I remember correctly, the cards had already planted white roses when they realized the Queen wanted red roses. So, their solution was to paint all the roses before the Queen found out.

[He makes a mental note to search for Lewis Carroll's book in the library when he gets a chance.]

Yes, it's nonsensical, but it's also a sort of political satire. I'm a bit dissapointed the satire part of the story seems to have been lost on the more modern residents.

Gracious. That's a big mistake to make for someone whose name implies a sort of redness, don't you think?

[He gives Dorian another curious look.]

Political satire? How so?

Yes, but they never mentioned how smart these cards were. [He playfully shrugs.]

Well, the book offers a good deal of parodies, poking fun at various things... Like the Caucus race for example. In the book, a bunch of animals attempt to dry themselves off by having a chaotic race in which no-one knows where they're going or what they're doing. The whole thing is ended after a while and nothing gets done, which does remind me a lot of how Parliament seems to be run.

I could go on, but I might need to read that story again. That was the most blatant piece of satire to me.

[Mettaton chuckles a little and listens, fascinated, as Dorian explains.]

Fascinating! What's a parliament?

[Monsters are delightful in how they don't understand human government structure.]

[Just like Victorian brits don't quite get how Monsters have so many subspecies.]

Oh, it's simply a form of government in which a large room full of elected politicians bicker over everything. That's all.
