01 ☂ Video
[For someone from a place of slightly more primitive technology, Lup seems to get a handle on her handheld device quickly enough, the elf framing her face perfectly in the screen, mouth curled to the side in a sharp grin. She looks totally in her element, confident and poised despite knowing nothing of this place or of the people who run it.
The one thing she does know is she needs out of here. Pronto.
For those unfortunate residents of Wonderland who know Taako, they may mistake this woman for him considering they share the same identical faces and long, elven ears. Her voice is a little different, naturally, but hey, elves get sick sometimes too, right?]
Now, I don't want to crush your game, but I'm gonna need the name of the nerd who runs this place, because I'm a busy woman who has exactly zero time for this bullshit. I can't fault you for wanting some of the good, ol' Lup brand to sparkle up this place, but it just isn't going to work.
It's not me, it's deffo all you.
And hey-- [She holds up free hand in front of the camera, which certainly looks to be on fire.] If you don't want to come out and face me yourself, I'll just start burning it down. I have a feeling that garden out front is gonna make for a pretty choice blaze. And I've got spell slots to burn, baby.
Your move. [And okay, that ending is slightly marred by the fact she struggles to figure out how to disconnect the call, but still!]

Okay, okay. Lup not Taako. I've got it. Fully realized creation and all that jazz, I get it.
Yeah, I'll be there in a few. Just stay put.
[And off he goes! True to his word, about five minutes later Magnus turns the corner and spots Lup. If it wasn't evident over the communicator, Magnus looks much, much older than he did the last time Lup saw him. About 20 years, give or take with what the other Wonderland took from him.]
[Enjoy old man Burnsides.]
Good to see things are still not on fire. Always a plus.

When Magnus finally shows up, the elf is busy running her hands along one of the solid marble pillars, just thoughtfully admiring the whole opulence of the room, though her attention shifts immediately to the man the second he comes into view.]
Hey, sometimes I can control myself.
Her hands drop and Lup doesn't hesitate in moving closer to Magnus, her sharp eyes starting mid-chest and drifting upwards, taking in both the familiar and unfamiliar facial traits of one of her oldest friends. There's a few new scars here and there, though that's to be expected with his class, but it's the abrupt change in age that gets her. Just how long has he been out of the cycles?]
Holy shit, you're like, what? Middle-aged? [She assumes. Humans age weird. Still, Lup whistles, hands moving to rest on her hips as she faces him.] Still kind of rocking it. For an old dude, you're pretty hot.
no subject
[While he is indeed rocking the older man look, Magnus doesn't quite know how to take the compliment from this strange elf who apparently knows him (and seems to think she knows him well.)]
So thanks, I guess?
no subject
Yeeeah, sounds like a story worth listening to. [Later. Over many drinks.
But now that he's here in front of her, Lup gives a grand gesture to herself before looking up a Magnus expectantly.] This cute face ringing any bells now? I know that shitty screen wasn't sharing the full Lup experience, but you must get it now, right?
no subject
[Lup and Magnus can share some drinks out of the Tankard of Potent Drink and get fucked up together and exchange some stories.]
[He tries, Lup, he really tries to give you a good hard look and remember something, but his mind comes up
staticblank.]Nope, I still don't know who you are.
no subject
Lup's shoulders droop a little, but she's determined enough to not let this go after a single set back. From her conversations so far in Wonderland, she's parsed out enough to understand that, one, she's stuck here for good against her will, and two, that time back home is supposedly frozen. The weight of her guilt for the relics won't ever just disappear, but there's some definite relief that the world she's left behind isn't going to burn up in her absence.
And if she's really going to be stuck here, she's going to be with her family. Whether they remember her or not.]
Alright, so you may have forgotten me a little, which y'know, totally rude, Mags, but I'm willing to forgive you for it.
[her expression softens just slightly, her tone as sincere as possible for Lup.] But we're friends. We've been friends, for like a really long time. Trust me.
no subject
How long have we apparently been friends? I forget people a lot, mostly randos we meet on various missions and stuff, but it'd take a lot for me to forget someone I've known for a long time.
no subject
Still, the last thing she wants to do is fuck this up and scare the man away so soon into this strange reunion. At his reply, she laughs and throws back her head, looking perfectly like Taako when he's in his element.]
Excuse you, but this face is hella unforgettable. I'm anything but some rando from the street, pal. [Sorry, but it's the Taaco Twin Brandâ„¢ to play up the laughs when shit is getting emotional. Magnus has to be used to it by now. Lup's expression softens, just slightly.]
Okay, so it sounds like a lie, but over a century. I mean--[she throws up her hands, gesturing vaguely at nothing, speaking with her hands.] If we want to get into the whole technical semantics, I guess it took us a little longer to warm up to one another, so maybe like ninety, ninety-five, but I've known you for over a hundred.
no subject
[Nope. Magnus is just cool and a cucumber.]
I mean, I remember that face. But only it's attached to Taako. Are you like...related to him or something? A distant cousin from New Elfington who happens to look a lot like him?
A century?
[Magnus hears the words but the deeper he tries to think about it, his brain statics just enough and he comes up with a whole not of nothing.]
I don't know how that's possible, I just got older but I'm not even in my fifties yet! And Taako and Merle...well I actually don't know how old they are so I can't really talk for them...but I know for a fact I'm nowhere near a hundred.
[And that's just math, Lup.]
no subject
Yeah, we're related. [A beat.] Closely related. We don't look identical for no reason. [Maybe that helps put it into perspective? Probably not, but she's trying.
Also, math is stupid! Known fact!]
I told you it sounds like a lie, but it's real. You may not know me, but I know you, Magnus Burnsides. I know about your love of dogs and wooden ducks and weird jellyfishes. And how you always end up rushing in without thinking and it maybe works half the time. And I know all about that giant, sappy heart of yours that's telling you to listen to the crazy elf making zero sense in front of you. I don't know why you can't remember me or why none of this is making sense to you, but I'm going to fix this.
no subject
I'm just having trouble wrapping my head around this. None of this makes sense...I can't even understand some of what you're saying.
[Wasn't being inoculated supposed to make him not hear any static? But why would this lady be blocked by the Voidfish if that's why there's static?]
I don't know what to think and I'm not sure what to believe. But you know a lot about me. I want to get to the bottom of this. So I don't know what I can believe right now...but maybe I can trust you.
[At least for now, but he doesn't need to say that out loud...]
no subject
The situation truly sucks and she hate that Magnus can't seem to remember her for whatever reason, but just having the man on her side of this whole thing fills Lup with a renewed confidence. She's going to fix this. There's just no doubt about it, her family is worth the trouble.]
Hell yeah, my man! [And inappropriate for the situation or not, Lup holds up a hand for a highfive.] Mags and Lup are on the case. We're gonna kick this mystery's fucking face in.
no subject
Not sure how we're gonna do it, 'specially since half the words you say are static, but I'm not gonna shoot down your optimism.
no subject
Static can only mean Fisher, right? Lup's seen it happen before, Lucretia at the kitchen sink, singing in static that only Barry's lich form could hear. It's a lot to consider, but the elf tucks it away for later, she doesn't need to work through that issue when Magnus is right here with her and wouldn't be able to understand half of what she's saying anyway.]
I'll figure it out, no problem. [Well, maybe some problem.] Wouldn't mind a grand tour of this place if I'm gonna be trapped here? Care to show a girl around?
