I was surprised by her compassion and kindness as well. It is not really something I would have expected from someone in her line of work.

Though Shepard-Commander's position in the Alliance military is combat oriented, outside of war, primary duties would have been acting as escorts, transporting important cargo, and defending colony worlds from attack.

War with the Old Machines was unanticipated.

Spectres have limited oversight. Tasks could be completed by whatever method she desired.
