[Wirt doesn't make a ton of posts. He's shy and anxious and not really suited to public speaking in any capacity, but once in a while Wonderland is just weird enough to warrant it.]

So...um. I've been thinking about it. Does anyone else think it's kind of weird there was a New Year's Party? I-I mean we've had them before, but those were thrown by somebody here. They weren't like, Wonderland parties. Like, time doesn't move here, so does that mean the White Queen counting time? Is there a set like, Wonderland year it's supposed to be now? And isn't starting the new year in January kind of arbitrary for a place where time isn't really real?

[He sighs, and rubs the back of his neck. He can feel himself getting off track.]

Sorry, I just-- time's already way complicated to keep track of here? Like, my birthday's next week and just thinking about the logistics of how that works gives me a headache, and now having Wonderland actually acknowledge a new year...I don't know. I didn't really have a point to this, I guess.

[And so, he cuts the feed there.]

People like occasions to celebrate, even if time in Wonderland is arbitrary and none of us age.

[The wheels turn and turn and then suddenly it clicks. He mentioned his birthday.]

O-Oh! Oh, um, I didn't mean to-- I didn't think anyone would even notice that part.

At least a few people probably will.

I'm not going to force a party on you, honey, but I'd like to bake something.

[He goes pink at the attention, though he does appreciate that it's not turning into a big event.]

Well...I guess I like yellow cake the most? With, um. Chocolate frosting?

I can definitely do that. Which day should I make it?

My birthday's on the 28th. So...probably that day, if that works for you?

Any other birthday wishes I can grant while I'm at it?

A cake is definitely more than enough. I honestly don't even know what else I would want?

[Especially since mentioning his birthday at all had been kind of an accident. He hadn't planned on asking anyone for anything.]

[ Thank god, a topic that involves not thinking at all about the most recent event. It makes it a lot easier to act normal. ]

I doubt they actually care about time as much as they just care about parties.

Probably. Everyone really gets excited about them.

[And sometimes they're fun! But they can also be really overwhelming.]

That's...kind of bad though? Shouldn't we be a little worried about getting complacent? Wonderland literally broke a few weeks ago.

[ Yes, maybe she's heading a little into the conspiratorial thinking corner here, but Ange is just naturally pessimistic.. ]

Maybe that queen was worried we'd think a little too much about how it seems like she just broke the place a while ago, so she gave us something to get distracted by.

That makes a lot of sense, actually. Wonderland's kind of good at stuff like that, like getting people distracted and making them comfortable so they don't think about the bad stuff this place does. ...That really must be it, huh. She broke Wonderland and now she's trying to sweep it under the rug so no one thinks about it anymore.

[The worst part is that it's kind of worked - Wirt hasn't seen a whole lot of people talking about what happened. A lot of people just seem to be moving on as though Wonderland didn't implode a few weeks ago.]

[ She knows it's a little hypocritical to talk about it this way. After all, Ange isn't exactly trying to turn the whole place over to look for answers, even though that has more to do with general apathy before she even showed up here than anything else. But still.. ]

That's how beings with that much power always are. [ Stupid witches. ] But.. even knowing that, what could we possibly do? It's not like we have any power to change anything.

I...wish I knew. I don't know if we can really do anything but the more we know, the more likely we might be able to come up with something?

[He sounds like he's not sure he believes that really, and he sighs.]

I don't know. But this place tries to keep a lot from us, so...figuring out anything at all is probably good, even if we don't know what to do with it.

Are you maybe hoping there's some big secret they're hiding about how to get out of here? [ Since even though he definitely sounds like he's not sure about what they're saying, thinking about his words does kind of lead to that idea popping up in Ange's head as well. ]

I guess that wouldn't be impossible. Sure, it's the sort of thing that sounds a little too convenient to be true, but anything is possible here.

[Is he hoping that? It's kind of a complicated feeling, one he decides not to address directly.]

Maybe it is too convenient. It seems like everything is possible here except the things people actually want to be possible...

[ She pauses for a moment like she's considering something. ]

Well, if you ever.. want to look around and see if there's anything at all to figure out.. [ Surely someone else would've noticed already if there was, but who knows. Maybe something new appeared after this place practically turned into a nightmare void last month. ] I guess I never mind going for a walk.

[ (That's Ange's way of saying she's okay with hanging out. Kind of. Maybe. She's weird.) ]

[Wirt looks surprised by the offer, but he thinks he understands it. Something about it reminds him strongly of someone else he knows.]

Oh. Well...cool. That's good to know. I'd like that, sometime?

[He wouldn't mind hanging out with her either.]

[Seems like someone didn't see the point in making a video. Perhaps the last event had something to do with it?]

Perhaps they're keeping up appearances? Either that, or there have been enough New Year's celebrations to give the residents ideas...

[He pauses, finding himself wanting to go off track... Ah well, he needs the distraction.] Speaking of the White Queen, aren't you a bit concerned about her most... Recent appearance?

You mean like, they're starting to understand time as a concept because we have time-based celebrations?

[That's an interesting thought - and a relevant one, since Wonderland always celebrates the winter holidays. Maybe it trained itself to do that by watching people celebrate them.]

Huh? Oh, you mean-- yeah, all her color was gone. That seemed kind of weird too.

Exactly. I believe this place has also celebrated Hallow's Eve before...

Yes, just as if she was a living photograph from my world. I've never seen anything like it.

That definitely seems like something we should be talking about more. How did that even happen to her? Is she like...is she okay?

[He can't imagine having all of the color drained out of you is a good thing.]

[Neither can he. He can think of worse fates, but...]

My guess is that it might have to do with whatever she did around Christmas, but damned if I know much else.

Why did everyone latch onto that part?

[He sighs, but in a way that sounds like he knows he should have expected this. He also knows he will not be able to talk his way out of the sheer party planning tornado that is Dipper and Mabel.]

Look...okay. B-But I don't want anything thing big and huge like you guys do for your birthday.

[That level of mansion-wide attention might actually make him combust on the spot.]

Duh. We're way too good at birthday parties to make an amateur screw up like that. We're gonna do a Wirt party. Not a Dipper and Mabel party.

[Wirt looks like he's not one hundred percent sure he believes this claim or not. But...he supposes he doesn't have much of a choice in the matter but to trust them, because it's going to happen either way.]

Right. If you say so...then again, you guys really are pretty good at parties.

[Or rather, he trusts that they're going to do what they want regardless of what he says.]

I mean, I guess it is kinda weird dealing with years passing when literally none of us age. But we're still here, living through them, right? Heck and maybe there are people here from worlds that don't even have Januarys. Then it's super abritary.

[But that's not half as important or interesting to him as Wirt's brithday.]

SO. What do you wanna do for your birthday? I'm gonna guess a hard no on an actual party, unless you're feeling up to it? Maybe something low key?

[Because Louis is obviously a person who can achieve 'low key'. ]

Yeah, that's true. Even if we aren't getting older, we're still going through stuff. Wonderland can't really stop that.

[He is really starting to regret that birthday mention. That's probably what he gets for talking without thinking first.]

Well...actually, I think Dipper and Mabel are going to do a party for me? The two of them are kind of a force to be reckoned with so I just...I said okay, as long as it's not anything too big?

[And he is choosing to trust that they won't turn it into an embarrassing mansion-wide Wirtstravaganza or something.]

It sure can't, not unless it completely resets our memories anyway, which, why would it want to do that? It'd be like throwing up the food it's already eaten.

[Too bad, he can't take it back now.]

Yeah...yeah, b-but maybe we shouldn't like, give it ideas? It does kind of get a little too into torturing us, so...we probably shouldn't tempt fate or whatever.

["Because it would hurt everyone involved emotionally" might be reason enough for Wonderland. Though, promises of coming to his birthday take the edge off that thought a little bit.]

[Connor doesn't really question the time question, since he doesn't know enough to really form a solid answer. The birthday comment does catch his attention though. He never really thought about what it was like to have a birthday before or really how old he actually was because he was an android. Sure Connor's been keeping count of how long he's been here, but it was more so for curiosity sake as well as the fact that he had a good memory for what he was.]

Time does seem to be screwy around here. I really wouldn't know much about that here just yet. I've never really thought of how birthdays work either. Humans seem to celebrate them enough, so they must be important.

Oh! Um. ...Yeah, they are. It's almost like, a holiday just for you? It's a day to celebrate that you started existing in the world. And then people who care about you give you gifts and wish you happy birthday.

[He seems a little awkward explaining it. He's never had to explain a birthday to someone before.]

Sorry, I hope that made sense. I've never heard of anyone who doesn't celebrate birthdays before, or something like that.

Huh. That does sound nice. I guess I can see why humans would find comfort in a Birthday.

[Would that make him one years old when his comes around? He's technically just a baby or a toddler at this point.]

I suppose that would make me about 6 months old.

[He hasn't met many people who aren't the age they physically should be - except, of course, for the ones who have been in Wonderland too long.]

Maybe you're influencing the place as much as it's trying to influence you? What's this about not aging?

Oh. Yeah, that's...a thing here. Time kind of isn't moving, so no one gets any older. I think it's harder for adults to notice it happening to them, but there are a lot of teenagers who have been here for years without growing up at all.

Maybe time is what we make of it. A day's only special because you decide to make it special. Or if somebody else makes it special for you.

[Having just had his birthday made special for the first time in years, Soos knows what he's talking about.]

[Wirt looks kind of surprised. He doesn't know what kind of a response he was expecting from this person but...that was surprisingly wise.]

Huh. I guess so. I've never like, thought about it really? But I guess all dates are kind of arbitrary until we assign meaning to them. Plus historically we changed the dates of holidays like, all the time. Or, you know. Whenever it was convenient.
