[ Aerith pops on screen looking a little winded, and maybe just a tiny bit frantic.

See, she has this Materia - a tiny little ball of glowy magic, courtesy of her mother - and she's managed to lose it.

There's no telling where the thing is. Usually, she tucks it up tightly in her ribbon, but recently she's been pretty distracted with the arrival of some of her favorite people, and maybe she's let her routine slide just the tiniest bit.

Whatever the reason, it's now gone and after she's turned her room upside down in her search, she figures she'll put out a message on the network in case anyone's found it. ]

I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I've lost something of mine. It's green and about this size. [ And she props her little device on a side table, so she can stand back and make a shape with her hands. ] It's not big enough to really stand out, but it's not small enough to fall through any cracks or vents.

[ She picks up her device again, sighing. In all the time she's had her mother's Materia on her, she hasn't lost it. Not like this. Especially not in a mansion that likes to throw monsters and tricks their way. ]

I'm going to look more through the mansion, but if anyone comes across it, give me a heads up?

[OOC: Just a heads up - she won't be finding it anytime soon, but everyone is welcome to help her. Also, feel free to run into her anywhere - she'll be searching high and low and through the grounds. ]

[ That's actually something Aerith hasn't considered. She really hasn't been on the ball lately, has she? ]

That might be possible. I'm not sure why, though. I've tested it very thoroughly, and it doesn't have any active magical abilities I've been able to find.

[ Maybe she's just not doing the right kind of thing to activate it. Her mother was certainly no help with it. ]

I'm sure you'll run into them sometime! Vincent's a little...standoffish, but he's hard to miss. [ The red cloak and line face tend to stand out. ]

Zack's really friendly, so I wouldn't be surprised if you met him soon, actually.

[ He has a good point with the whole 'infinite number of rooms' statement. Sometimes, she forgets the mansion just never seems to end. Probably because she gave up on exploring it entirely a while ago.

His introduction reminds her that she didn't introduce herself. Wow, she must really be turned around because of this missing materia mess. ]

Well, Philip, it's nice to meet you. I had no idea anyone was living in the basement. [ Basements aren't cute, and she's not going down there, okay? Unless it's necessary. ] If you do happen to find my materia down there, I'll be forever grateful. [ Pause, and she looks thoughtful. ] Maybe I should offer a reward of some kind. It might turn up faster, who knows.

That's why I'm so stumped! I'm sure I would have felt it drop, or heard it at least. [ She looks pretty worried for a second before she just frowns, shaking her head. ] It could be outside, but I'm trying to save that for last. There's so many places it could be, and I'm trying to knock out the easier places to look before tackling outside.

[ There's really just no telling. Retracing her steps won't help much, because she's all over the place most of the time, anyway. At least she can mark the diner off her list, though. ]

It's really taught me a lesson. Keep my valuables somewhere safe. That isn't in my hair, anyway. [ And her lips curve up into a small smile, because really getting super upset over it won't help matters. She's more frustrated than anything, but keeping her cool is what's important. ] I was hoping it would be in here, but it's just one less place to look, so at least there's that.

The Cetra are a race from my planet. Or, they were a race, actually. They almost went extinct when Jenova came. [ And she'll keep the fact she's the last living one to herself. It still makes her a little uncomfortable, and a tad lonely. ]

That's actually what the theory is back home, that she spread a sickness. The Cetra were a peaceful race - they lived for the planet, so they weren't prepared for something like that.

[ History lessons with Aerith. Who happens to have some inside knowledge to the whole thing, since she can talk to Cetra long since passed.

Something else she'll keep to herself for the time being. Having healing powers is one thing - hearing the dead speak is entirely another. ]

Do you not have a lot of alien invasions where you're from? [ Slightly teasing, but a move to focus the topic less on her. ]

That's why I don't think someone would just take it. Not that it really has magic, anyway, but even if it did I'm sure someone wouldn't look twice at it.

[ And she's poking at a nearby book case, leaning over so she a drag a hand underneath in the space between the case and the floor. ]

I am a little sad I didn't carry more on me. At least to show some people how magic works in our world. I've run into a few people who say they don't even have it where they come from.

[It does seem strange, but Martha's definitely had things disappear on her before. In ways that seemed completely impossible, at that. It's the sort of thing she almost wants to attribute to some strange time and space anomaly that everyone's just been forced to write off as bad luck.

But in this case, Wonderland is probably to blame. Martha just doesn't know why it would start taking people's valuables all of a sudden. And as far as she knows, Aerith's the only one who's been affected.]

Well, once you find it, maybe you can ask the closet for a jewelry box to keep it in. That might be a bit safer. [But it's true, they've eliminated one place at least. If only the mansion wasn't so big...]

[Tohru's still reaching far beneath the equipment, but it doesn't seem to be there either, and she sits up on the floor with a worried pout. But, instead of dwelling on it, she lets herself get swept up in Aerith's good news.]

Really? That's so wonderful! I'm so happy for you. I mean, I know it would be much better if we could all just go home, and I'm not sure I would wish it on anyone, but it must be really nice to have them around now! It's a good reason to be distracted. You must have missed them a lot.

[She's genuinely excited for Aerith! She knows that must be great to have her friends around, especially in situations like this.]

[ HahahahahHAHAHAHAHAHAHA wow isn't that a familiar story. America starts looking pretty uncomfortable. ]

Er, no, invasions are strictly a human thing where I'm from. [ Wow what an awkward topic. He could spend all day tripping over himself with justifications and excuses but that would just lead to more uncomfortable discussions. Instead he decides to just... not explain things and move on. ]

Always wanted to meet an alien though! Not a mean one, of course, but I've always had this dream of meeting someone from beyond the stars.

I guess Wonderland kinda counts? Meeting a lot of humans, but there's a couple other races I ain't familiar with mixed in.

Vincent? You mean Vincent Valentine? Guy with the, uh... [He clears his throat.]
Voice like this?

[It's not even close to Vincent's pitch black timbre. Yousuke's voice can't even register that low.]

[Kirigiri inclines her head.] Good luck with your search.

[Annie shrugs.]

Just an idea. I don't know anything about it, of course. But that'd be cool, don't you think? If it really did have magic in it??

That's a good idea. [ Aerith starts to ponder what kind of box she should get, but then stops herself. She really shouldn't get ahead of herself here, the first step is finding the materia. ]

I think right now I'll try retracing my steps. I've just been searching the obvious places, but it's time for plan B.

[ Not that plan B has much more to it than following whatever paths she's taken the past few days. This will be more of a headache than she anticipated, and she actually rubs her temples for a moment before giving Martha a tired smile. ]

I feel like I'm going crazy. I do appreciate your help, Martha, thank you. I'm glad I had an extra pair of eyes, now I know I didn't miss anything in here.

I feel the same way - I don't wish this on anyone, but having people show up that I care about is... [ It's a lot of things, and she pauses before smiling. Keeping it simple is always good. ] It's nice. Nicer than I thought it would be.

[ Aerith's searching a bit through cabinets, but it's more absent minded. She's sure nobody would pick it up and put in anywhere like this, but who knows? ]

I was surprised to see Vincent here, but that was nothing compared to seeing Zack again. [ And yeah, her eyes go a little soft because it's Zack. Her first love (and her first real friend), and it's been so long since she's seen him. ] It's been a nice surprise, and I keep expecting more of my friends to show up.

[ She laughs, because his impression, while not totally spot-on, is probably what she would sound like when she tries to imitate Vincent. ]

That's him. He's a good friend, but he can be a little hard to read sometimes.

[ Or really hard to read, but she's gotten used to it. She even makes her own little game of it sometimes, trying to figure out just what he's thinking. ]

[ Any invasion, human or otherwise, is not a pleasant experience. She remembers the Wutai War, vaguely, and how it tore families apart. What is war good for, anyway? ~~Absolutely nothing~~. ]

I'd say it counts! We do have an interesting mix of people here, don't we? And a dragon. [ A sweet, cute beast that she found absolutely adorable. ] I always think I'm past being surprised about who or what shows up next, and I'm proven wrong frequently.

[ It's actually been pretty fun for her, to tell the truth. She loves meeting people, and meeting people from other worlds? Even more exciting. ]

It would be, now that I think about it. Like some kind of hidden power that needs activated.

[ There's something about that thought...it pings her, down where she runs on her instinct and guidance from the planet. Not that she's getting a lot of guidance here, but it sounds right. That it's just waiting to be activated.

Aerith shakes the thought away. It just seems too silly, even for her. ]

If it did have magic, I'm sure it would be something close to restoration or curing. Thankfully I can heal on my own!

Retracing your steps is probably the best option at this point, yeah. [Martha's not sure how long that's going to take, though, if Aerith wanders around a lot. She seems like the sort of person who goes all over.]

And you're not crazy. Even if it might feel that way, you're not. [Martha smiles at Aerith, because she realizes that she hadn't really meant that to begin with -- but she can sympathize. When you feel like you just had something and it's nowhere to be found, it's maddening.]

It's no problem at all. I hope that you find it soon.

... besides... nothing annoys her more than simply ignoring her...

Yeah, at first he seemed a little... shady, but after talking to him awhile he turned out to be an okay guy. Kinda dark, but not bad or anything.

That whole not-aging thing is pretty freaky though. Do you know whatever it is in your world that can cause that?

[Annie nods.]

Yeah, that makes sense...Have you tried healing since you lost it?

In theory because it can be whatever you require it to be!

[ Peering around corners and under tables and chair, Zack makes a thought, noncommittal sound. He's not really sure if he should tell Aerith her material is magical or not -- it certainly wouldn't do much to assuage her worry so maybe...he shouldn't. ]

I have a couple.

[ Nothing super fancy, sadly -- just basic elementals, healing, and defense. ]

The summons I had didn't come with me, though.

[ He looks at her quizzically. ]

There are really worlds without magic, huh?

It's not a popular spot. And, erm, there aren't actually that many rooms down here to begin with. But a few of them--

[ ...do have people living in them would probably stretching the truth a little, to be honest he's not entirely sure who or what he's sharing that floor with and sometimes he thinks that doing his best not to find out is actually a good call. ]

[ And speaking of good calls: ]

Anyway, I'd go with the reward. Beats betting on charity.

[ For all he knows whoever finds the thing will hold it ransom anyway, or try to figure out what it does before returning it, if they return it at all. ]
