003. [video/action]
[ Aerith pops on screen looking a little winded, and maybe just a tiny bit frantic.
See, she has this Materia - a tiny little ball of glowy magic, courtesy of her mother - and she's managed to lose it.
There's no telling where the thing is. Usually, she tucks it up tightly in her ribbon, but recently she's been pretty distracted with the arrival of some of her favorite people, and maybe she's let her routine slide just the tiniest bit.
Whatever the reason, it's now gone and after she's turned her room upside down in her search, she figures she'll put out a message on the network in case anyone's found it. ]
I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I've lost something of mine. It's green and about this size. [ And she props her little device on a side table, so she can stand back and make a shape with her hands. ] It's not big enough to really stand out, but it's not small enough to fall through any cracks or vents.
[ She picks up her device again, sighing. In all the time she's had her mother's Materia on her, she hasn't lost it. Not like this. Especially not in a mansion that likes to throw monsters and tricks their way. ]
I'm going to look more through the mansion, but if anyone comes across it, give me a heads up?
[OOC: Just a heads up - she won't be finding it anytime soon, but everyone is welcome to help her. Also, feel free to run into her anywhere - she'll be searching high and low and through the grounds. ]

video;
Every once in a while he pauses to pay a little more attention to a particular feed.
And every once in a blue moon he decides that he actually has something to contribute: ]
So it's green and about this [ He imitates her hand motion. ] size, but what is it? A frog, a head of broccoli, a cactus plant-- [ He was his hand. You catch his drift, right? ] What are we looking for, exactly?
video;
Well, it's not broccoli. I could just wait a few days and it would start to go bad, then I could find it by smell.
[ The time for jokes is always. She's still worried about finding it, because she feels like she's missing a piece of herself, but nothing good came from panicking too early. ]
It actually looks like a big marble. Where I'm from, it's called Materia. They usually cast magic, but the one I have is a dud. It's just...sentimental.
video;
Okay, okay, he'll listen though. Not that he's about to mount a search, but if the thing accidentally rolled down the basement stairs, hey, he's your man. ]
Green ball. Magic dud. Got it. As long as it won't electrocute me when I try to pick it up...
[ Magic balls. Always bad news, far as he can tell. ]
Er, last time you had it and where?
video;
[ Now, that's the question. It's been such an automatic routine for so long she really has to comb back through her memories. ]
I remember seeing it for sure two days ago, when I was about to leave my room. I picked it up and after that... [ There's a shrug on her end. ] I've had it with me for almost as long as I remember, and I've never lost it before. Just one of those things you stop thinking about after so long.
video;
Okay, erm... what's the return address then? I mean-- Sorry, I mean, what's your name? I know I've seen you around before, but it's getting a bit too crowded to remember everyone.
[ And he's not exactly taking attendance, names and all. ]
video;
My name is Aerith. My room's on the eighth floor, right next to the diner.
[ Her work commute is super short, so convenient. ]
With all the new faces showing up around here, I'm not surprised. I don't think anyone can keep up - except maybe Kirigiri.
[ That girl's made a database, she has to know things. ]
video;
[ No, give him a second, he's heard that name before, he definitely has. It gets boring in the tunnels, and he does have a look at the network with some frequency, and usually there isn't all that much that catches his attention, usually names don't get mentioned too of-- hang on, he's got it! ]
Girl with the grey hair, right? She did something, I forgot what it was.
[ ...Let him rephrase: ]
I mean, a database of sorts, I think?
video;
[ Which gives Aerith an idea - find Kirigiri and get her help in this. Always good to have someone super observant on a materia hunt. ]
Maybe I can get her to organize some kind of big search party.
[ Not for real. While Aerith does like to be the center of attention sometimes, in this instance she wouldn't demand that everyone form a search. She lost it, and she will do the bulk of the looking. ]
video;
Hey, we've only got an infinite number of rooms, how hard can--
[ Christ, hang on. ]
...it be. Erm, sorry, I- [ He shakes his head. Not exactly doing stellar work with his half of the introduction. ] I forgot, erm, Philip. I'm Philip. Fifth door to the left in the basement, so if your-- [ What did she call it again? Uhh... never mind. ] if your thing rolled downstairs by any chance I'll have it back in no time.
video;
His introduction reminds her that she didn't introduce herself. Wow, she must really be turned around because of this missing materia mess. ]
Well, Philip, it's nice to meet you. I had no idea anyone was living in the basement. [ Basements aren't cute, and she's not going down there, okay? Unless it's necessary. ] If you do happen to find my materia down there, I'll be forever grateful. [ Pause, and she looks thoughtful. ] Maybe I should offer a reward of some kind. It might turn up faster, who knows.
video;
[ ...do have people living in them would probably stretching the truth a little, to be honest he's not entirely sure who or what he's sharing that floor with and sometimes he thinks that doing his best not to find out is actually a good call. ]
...are occupied.
[ And speaking of good calls: ]
Anyway, I'd go with the reward. Beats betting on charity.
[ For all he knows whoever finds the thing will hold it ransom anyway, or try to figure out what it does before returning it, if they return it at all. ]
video;
It was an interesting day. ]
A reward does tend to inspire people, doesn't it? [ She has her fair share of greedy friends (cough cough Yuffie cough), so she can understand that. If it does end up in someone's hands, they'll be super disappointed so she's not worried about someone causing some trouble with it. ] Not sure what I can offer as a reward, though, when we can just grab anything we want or need from a closet. Any ideas?
video;
[ He blinks, because that's a follow-up question he didn't expect, and one he never really thought about either. So far he's never exactly wanted anything he couldn't get from the closets, or from the vendors in exchange for some of the few trinkets he still brought from home. ]
I, uh, I guess that depends on what you've got to offer, I mean-- Can you do anything? Wonderland's all right on the goods, not so much on the services. [ Because, come to think of it, he does remember an incident that might apply. ] Few years back I'd have swapped something for a decent barber. Or music lessons.
[ He's personally lost interest in both since, but the idea's a start. ]
video;
If anything, I can just make them several daisy chains or flower crowns. A perfect reward for all that hard work, right? [ She's smiling, because Aerith's certain the only people who would consider that a reward are her and that's about the end of the list. ] I didn't think about offering any kind of services, though, thank you for the idea. It's a good one!
video;
Sure, no problem.
[ ...Which, incidentally, sounds like he could wrap it up just about now. ]
Anyway, erm, good luck finding your-- [ ...thing with the name he's already forgotten. ] Good luck.
