[Balthazar pops up in the feed looking drawn and stressed-out, his voice terse and sharp.] I have a question. Has anyone out there with peculiar weaknesses tried them on their own Shadow? Out of curiosity. Living with them indefinitely seems a bit--
[The voice of his Shadow comes from offscreen, but close.] Draw your sword. Let's try it. I won't even fight back.
[Flinch. The angel's eyes lock on the screen as he attempts to ignore the antics of his duplicate self in the background.] --seems a bit of a tall order, when they're so utterly determined to needle us.
Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot you're a coward. Well, never mind. At least you know I won't stab you in the back, either.
[His jaw twitches, and he goes on through gritted teeth.] Mostly, I'm curious whether spells and sigils can trap them effectively, but mine seems determined to stay close and disrupt my concentration.
Haha! Get it? Because stab--
[The sound cuts off abruptly, and a hand covers the video screen while Balthazar waits for replies.]
((OOC note: Still studying for my test, so replies will be very slow, but I will get to tags when I can.))

Video.
I've not, but only because I'd rather not be stuck in closer proximity to her.
[Susan took a deep breath and ignored the comment from behind her. It was hard to make out, but it was something high and whined and to the effect of 'Another imaginary friend, pathetic'. Her expression flattened and she continued.]
I suspect the closet might be able to hold them, seeing as it's the same Source, but gagging her and shoving her into it is a whole separate matter.
Video.
Because running away solves everything. [Balthazar's shadow is in the background now, visible over his shoulder, leaning against the wall and watching the screen with curious, yellow eyes.]
Presumably they have the same strength and skill levels we do. It might be hard for one person to take on their own. I don't know...
Video.
It's worth a try, honestly. [Susan's double laughed, loud and mean, for several seconds. When she contributed, it was, unsurprisingly, unkind to everyone involved:]
Oh, please, and what would you know? Trapped many angels have you? And him? He sketches on sidewalks. If Nobody else has managed to rid themselves of their others, why should a silly school teacher and a retired mythic mailman manage it? Hm?
[There was a beat of silence and Susan just stared into the book as she resisted the very, very strong temptation to attack her duplicate. When she spoke it was with the light, polite lilt of restrained violence.]
I you would like help, I happily offer my assistance.
Video.
Retired mythic mailman? Sweetheart, you don't know much about angels. We're monsters designed to kill on command, and nothing else.
[There's an awkward pause, because Balthazar himself has to concede the truth of this. He's said similar things before, in fact, although usually with more tact. The overlap in philosophy between himself and his Shadow is uncomfortable. He's not sure what to say, floundering for a moment, but finally he manages:]
I would very much appreciate the assistance.

It doesn't sound like your shadow is agreeing with you.
video|private
Hate is a strong word. Contempt, sure. Hate requires too much energy.
video|private
Well, the shadow is technically you. If you have a weakness then it seems feasible to me that you could use that.
[Telling somebody he did just that with his own and in detail would kind of out himself, so he will keep that to himself. He is really finding this whole event kind of exciting.]
Isn't talking about it in the open counterproductive though?

Where's yours? Did you find a way to deal with it?

No luck on my end. Everything I do—
—I do better. I bet I could even run away better than you. No, wait. No one does that better than—
[He twitches, trying to ignore this schpiel.]
Some kid said that these things are us, so I'd be careful with the spell experimentation.
That someone would fix it for you. Give you answers. Whine, whine, whine. [The Shadow of Balthazar peers over his shoulder to give Gabriel an icy smile, while the real version looks uncomfortable by the doppelganger's proximity.] This one learned a lot by watching you, Gabriel.
[Balthazar snaps irritably, spurred into some form of action by his shadow switching its attentions to someone else.] Shut up. No one wants to talk to you.
In fact, his Shadow chuckles in agreement with the other one it can hear.]
Somebody's got your number.
[He's a master of burying uncomfortable feelings. Or he wants to be. Still, he tries his best not to look at his little brother's Shadow. A whiner's not the worst thing he's been called today, but all the same...]
Don't worry about it.
If someone else figures out how to get rid of them, I'm sure it'll be all over the Network. It better be, anyway.
[The Shadow places a hand on Balthazar's head, mussing his hair and dodging the subsequent swat at its arm.] It's darling, the way you can both talk and talk without saying anything. You should let me take care of everything. At least then everyone will know exactly where they stand.

[Which is awful, really. She wants to ask about the back stabbing bit, but figures that's not much of her business. So she acts like this is any other conversation ever, despite the fact her shadow is looming in behind her.]
If you tell me how sigils work, I could try one. Just for the sake of saying I tried.
video
You can tell he's desperate, turning to a human for help. [The shadow tells Clara conversationally.] No offense meant, of course. I'm sure you're very useful.
video
[Clara snaps, crossing her arms over her chest.]
Don't lie, you're considering summoning him straight to the bottom of the ocean.
[She can only shrug in response to her shadow, because yep, that's pretty much the thought here.]
All that aside, go ahead and send the directions. I'll see if I can't get it to work and give you a few minutes of quiet.
video
Or--no, don't ignore him. Go ahead and summon him to the bottom of the ocean. Worst that can happen is I'll end up getting wet, too. [Sigh.]
I'll send you something in just a moment. As for you-- [He turns to his Shadow as he reaches to put the video on mute. There's no sound once he hits the button, but the way his lips move suggests distinctly that he's telling himself to 'shut it'.
The original Balthazar moves out of frame to grab some paper and a pen, but the Shadow version rests his chin in his hands and simpers cheerfully across the feed.]

And then, most confusingly, a Nightfury with yellow eyes has been following him around and antagonizing him. Snarling in his face, smacking him with his tail, and trying to assert his dominance over the mansion. Toothless has tried to escape him in every way he knows possible, because he doesn't want to fight this other dragon. But no. He just keeps coming. (And here he'd been looking forward to seeing another dragon...)
By the time he comes across Balthazar, on one of his brisk "maybe I can lose him around this corner" runs, he feels just as miserable as the Vikings around him. He comes to a halt, making a note of there being a double of him, too, and then rumbles a subdued greeting.]

Hello, there. I see the place isn't cutting any of us any breaks. Are you getting along with yours at all?
[The shadow, for the moment, is silent, just watching the proceedings.]

...both of them. This is all terribly confusing to a creature who identifies others mostly with scent. He looks between the two Balthazars, trying to figure out which one was the one he was used to. It was probably the one who had spoken, but...]

[Balthazar's shadow interjects:] He's a better conversationalist than any human here, I'll give you that, but I really don't think the dragon understands philosophy. If it's just that you like the sound of your own voice, I'll talk all you want.
[The angel sighs, trying to ignore his duplicate.]

[For Balthazar's sake, she's doing her best to ignore the Shadow itself and speak directly to him, though her own Shadow, of course, has to interject.]
Don't worry. If you threaten me with responsibility or commitment, I won't run away like you would.
[Emma has to make an effort not to roll her eyes.]
None of us are really getting the time or space to think without being interrupted.
Balthazar's own shadow grimaces visibly.] Do you even know what 'subtle' means?
