[ the video feed starts, and lydia's not paying attention; in fact, she'd been using the darkened screen of her device in order to check the status of her lip gloss and mascara. the latter is slightly smudged underneath one eye, as if she's recently been crying, but it's the only sign of any distress as she quickly plasters a different expression on, mouth pouting slightly. ]

I would like to state, for the record, that this is ridiculous. Absolutely, completely - ridiculous.

I mean, they say that the first part of debunking a hallucination is to acknowledge its total lack of infallibility.

Or something.

Besides, the whole 'waking up in Wonderland' cliché? So tired.

[ she pauses, eyes narrowing, and stares a little more intently at the camera, as if silently daring someone to challenge her.

and then she sighs, quietly, the camera panning to the rows and rows of books behind her - several of the titles in different languages - before the feed cuts out. ]

Hmm. I think someone has a map of this side somewhere, but this place is weird, so you can find most things just by wandering around long enough...

Oh, right. Well, it probably sounds kind of crazy, but there's a parallel universe or something inside the mirrors. On the other side there's copies of everyone living here, and they obey this really evil queen called the Queen of Hearts. Sometimes they swap places with people on our side, but you can get rid of them by making them look at their reflection.

You're lucky, you just missed everyone being stuck over there. It's a really creepy place.

[ oh great, so she just missed what sounds like a creepy parallel dimension. this place sounds even better than what was promised on the brochure. ]

How creepy are we talking?

Monochrome, spying on the realside, missing all the outside grounds, torture devices in the basement kind of creepy.

Also, there's a room that gives you headaches.

Really? Just a room?

[ because there's a whole lot about this place right now that's probably going to cause a seismic migraine. ]

It's a really bright room, and the Red Queen—she's the good queen, not the same as the Queen of Hearts—she said it's dangerous, so I don't know what else it might do. It made me feel kind of sick after I peeked at it...

But, you don't have to worry about that right now. This side is much less creepy, even if it's still kind of weird.

This is the first time I can be glad for slightly less creepy.

It probably won't be the last time, either! [that... isn't really all that reassuring, huh]

The closets give you whatever you want, so it's not that bad here. The bad part is that no one can leave willingly... but we're all working on that! So don't worry about it.

[ insert a slowly growing smile. suddenly she's less concerned about the inability to leave part. ]

Yeah, the closets in all the rooms—if you ask for something, you'll find it in there. It doesn't always work, but it should work for most stuff.

Any room. It doesn't matter, unless it already belongs to someone, but most of them are empty. You can just pick one and keep it and have a closet all to yourself.

[ cue a broad smile, and something resembling a soft giggle. ]

I'm failing to see the downside of that.

It's just a closet with stuff in it... It's not like you can get anything really cool out of it.
