[ the video feed starts, and lydia's not paying attention; in fact, she'd been using the darkened screen of her device in order to check the status of her lip gloss and mascara. the latter is slightly smudged underneath one eye, as if she's recently been crying, but it's the only sign of any distress as she quickly plasters a different expression on, mouth pouting slightly. ]

I would like to state, for the record, that this is ridiculous. Absolutely, completely - ridiculous.

I mean, they say that the first part of debunking a hallucination is to acknowledge its total lack of infallibility.

Or something.

Besides, the whole 'waking up in Wonderland' cliché? So tired.

[ she pauses, eyes narrowing, and stares a little more intently at the camera, as if silently daring someone to challenge her.

and then she sighs, quietly, the camera panning to the rows and rows of books behind her - several of the titles in different languages - before the feed cuts out. ]

[ well, this is one of the many times in her life that lydia martin has screamed; in this case, it comes out as more of a squeak as she claps a hand to her chest, almost dropping her phone.

nice going, stiles. she's more annoyed now than freaked - which, maybe, is kind of a good thing - as she huffs out a sigh. ]

Where's the fire, Stiles?

[ It's actually her. Holy shit. After all that fuss to get in here, Stiles is kind of dumbstruck. Lydia Martin is here, in Wonderland, with him, not at home...in what's probably going to end up being a lot of danger...but she's here, right, so that counts!

Getting his wits about him he does manage to snap his jaw shut and hurry over to her. ] I just--oh my god, I can't believe you're actually here, are you okay?

[ And that all comes out in one breath, because Stiles Stilinski is the master of smooth. ]

[ she just peers at him for a second, sort of a half-squint, and tries to figure out exactly what it is that has him so worked-up this time. ]

Why wouldn't I be?

[ aside from the fact that she's woken up to find herself in a completely different place, and the news she's getting on this phone is more disturbing by the second.

for a split second, she's almost tempted to reach out to him just to find out if he's real - even by touching the sleeve of his sweatshirt. ]

Stiles scoffs a little, but not loudly, and opens his arms in an all encompassing gesture of "this place". ]

Aside from the whole kidnapped and thrown into Wonderland thing? [ And he drops his arms. Unless you wanted to hug him Lydia you could totally do that.

...ahem. ] It's definitely a hundred percent real, by the way. Unless someone's been drugging me for like, months, it's definitely real. It's just been me, but then Allison and Scott showed up [ and derek but whatever ] and I'm just like really glad to see you, Lydia.

[ Have a slightly goofy smile. ]

it's not to say the thought doesn't cross her mind. she decides to do something halfway between hugging him and standing still - which is to step closer to him as he gestures, lingering by his side before a concerned look comes over her features. ]

Months? Wait, Stiles - how long have you been here?

[ This was the part that was hardest to explain to Scott, too. ] A little more than three months. I know, it sounds absolutely nuts, but--remember in Alice in Wonderland, she went in the hole and spent forever there and only like five minutes ended up passing.

So I sort of fell down a rabbit hole. Literally. [ Lydia will at least be more receptive to this explanation right. Right. ] I don't know how or why, but I seriously went to bed in Beacon Hills and woke up in the middle of the pool.

- that's impossible.

[ even as she says it, she knows - knows he's not lying to her. but it explains so much. like why she'd fallen asleep on the bus and woken up here, with no way to determine who had brought her here. it's why certain things aren't adding up and why she's getting that sinking feeling in her gut that this won't be as simple as closing her eyes and falling asleep to get home. ]

What's the last thing you remember?

[ So there's some kind of future paradox bs going on here too, isn't there. ]

The last thing I remember from home 's the Jackson debacle. [ He doesn't want to go into much detail. Remembering Lydia saving Jackson through loving him is something he might be a tiny bit bitter about. ] Which...judging by your face, is way, way off, isn't it.

[ there's a definite look on her face. a definite we're-moving-on-with-this look. can you tell she doesn't want to discuss a certain werejerk? ]

He's been in London since before school started. Or who knows, maybe he's traipsing all over Europe. He could be halfway to China for all I care.

[..........we're not gonna say Stiles is really pleased to hear her talk about Jackson like that but Stiles is really pleased to hear her talk about Jackson like that. He's at least going to try not to show it though. Ten year plan is back in motion! ]

--Since before school started? Wait, so you already started school again. You're way the hell ahead of me.

[ to anyone who asks, she's totally over jackson. one hundred percent. one hundred and one percent. she sniffs dismissively, shaking her head. ]

So I've been told. Look, how much do you know about what's been going on?

[ it feels really odd to be the one explaining this to him when their positions had been reversed not too long ago. ]

[ Absolutely Lydia he believes you completely. ]

Honestly, nothing. I talked to Allison about it a little, but she's not been super forthcoming and Scott and Derek and I are all kind of a blast from the past. Or you're from the future, I guess, depending on how you look at it.

Oh, so you don't know about the sacrifices then.

[ she says it almost matter-of-fact, as if she hasn't been stumbling upon dead bodies left and right. practically. ]

Y-- [ His mouth drops open, working a couple times, and then he finally shuts it. ]

Of course I don't know about the sacrifices, there are sacrifices?! What the hell!

The human sacrifices. The ones that have been happening since school started? Stiles - you were the one who figured out what was going on. That there was even a pattern.

[ it's not anything anyone wants to be patting themselves on the back for, but we digress. ]

Meanwhile I'm the one who kept finding the bodies.
