[ the video feed starts, and lydia's not paying attention; in fact, she'd been using the darkened screen of her device in order to check the status of her lip gloss and mascara. the latter is slightly smudged underneath one eye, as if she's recently been crying, but it's the only sign of any distress as she quickly plasters a different expression on, mouth pouting slightly. ]

I would like to state, for the record, that this is ridiculous. Absolutely, completely - ridiculous.

I mean, they say that the first part of debunking a hallucination is to acknowledge its total lack of infallibility.

Or something.

Besides, the whole 'waking up in Wonderland' cliché? So tired.

[ she pauses, eyes narrowing, and stares a little more intently at the camera, as if silently daring someone to challenge her.

and then she sighs, quietly, the camera panning to the rows and rows of books behind her - several of the titles in different languages - before the feed cuts out. ]

[ caroline bristles. ] I'm just trying to help. You know, by being positive? Sometimes it doesn't hurt to not be saying that you're trapped and there's no way out and don't touch the scones because they're not as good as they look.

[ which is a lie. she loves those scones. she wants them all to herself. ]

[ lydia pushes out a small sigh. ]

- they don't shrink you down to an impossible size, do they?

They just make you really, really addicted, and maybe consider staying so you can either have some more or find the recipe.

[ she shrugs. ]

It's not so bad, if you ignore, like, everything else. And have a scone or two in hand.

[ she pauses, grinning. ]

Did anyone stage an intervention?

I've been here a bit. Though, not long enough to know if it's even worth staging an intervention. [ her mouth curves upward as her voice goes a little high. ] For the whole of Wonderland?

So you're telling me that no one's lost their marbles here yet?

[ she's still grinning, although it's more of a knowing smirk. ]

No one that I know.

[ not that she knows anyone, but, moving on! caroline frowns and tilts her head. ]

But isn't there a saying? We're all a little crazy around here?

I'm not sure how comforting that is, exactly.

[disparage]

It's better than knowing you're the only crazy person in all the land.

[ she shrugs. ]

I'll take whatever positivity I can get, even if it's small and stupid.
