So... This is an event, right? Everyone's acting so weird, and that lady that showed up before...
[Yousuke's been having a particularly hard time with this one. He has memories, years worth of memories here in the mansion that suddenly feel like they don't exactly line up, with what people have been telling him and the theories they've worked out. And yet what he knew before, memories of his world-- they had to be true. The emotions he had then and the emotions they caused now couldn't possibly be fake.]
[Terrible things had happened. Terrible things because he wasn't good enough. Strong enough.]
[He's acting completely different than usual. The normally cheerful, bold and pushy Yousuke has given way to a sullen and shifty-eyed individual. Depressed, and unsure, like he can't even trust the words coming out of his own mouth.]
We know everyone else isn't right, but we're convinced we're the same-- how is that possible? Are we being tricked?
[Very quickly, that mistrust turns into shaky anger.]
I don't-- I don't like being messed with! Don't fuck with me! I want answers!

action;
Right. That bastard... She died because of what he did...
action;
...Nanako...isn't dead.
action;
...She is. You were there. We were all there.
[Was that something... that could have been prevented?]
action;
[He frowns, uneasy and not trusting his own memories anymore.]
Why is it different?
action;
[Forgive him, he's not as hopeful as he used to be at all, and something like that is just... but Souji wouldn't lie...]
How... When did that happen? Exactly when did that happen?
action;
She flat lined, but a nurse came while we were in Namatame's room and said she'd come to. It took a few weeks, but she recovered by the time I left.
action;
No... A nurse never came into Namatame's room. We finished the deal and left...
action;
[Souji hadn't stopped him?]
....What did I do?
action;
[He turns his gaze away unsteadily.]
...No. You weren't angry. It was like something inside you had died with her.
action;
action;
[He gets up off the bed, and backs away from Souji.]
But how? He said it himself! His shadow admitted it; we all saw it!
action;
The Midnight Channel projects what we want to see--his shadow said what we were all thinking.
action;
[Oh God. Oh God. They had the wrong guy. He killed-- Oh, fuck. Nanako-chan died, everyone died, because he was so dead set on being a hero and having revenge. They were all so wrong.]
[He feels like throwing up. Yousuke steps forward and grips Souji's shoulders like a vice, shaking him once, forcing him to look up.]
Who... Who did it? Who else could it have possibly been?
action;
....Adachi.
action;
You're fucking with me. That loser? He couldn't tell his face from his ass!
action;
[The words come out in a rush, like he's been keeping all of this inside for too long. And he has, as far as he knows. He's been hiding it from Yousuke since he got to Wonderland.]
action;
[But it slowly starts to make some sense. He was always in the right place in the right time, even if it was doing what seemed to be the wrong thing. He even had Dojima fooled. And in the police, he had all the power he needed to pull strings...]
[Yousuke slowly sits on the floor, running his hand through his hair nervously.]
Everything-- Everything, the fog, the shadows, people getting sick and dying... It was all his damn fault? Because we couldn't stop him...
action;
But the words don't come. After a moment, he slides down off of the bed to join Yousuke on the floor. He can't even say that the worst didn't happen--even if it hasn't happened yet, it could. The fog wouldn't have stopped existing if Adachi had been held responsible. It would have still been there and so would that world inside the TV.
He has nothing to offer Yousuke.]
.....We could have.
action;
[When he looks up at Souji, there are tears in his eyes.]
You got him. Please tell me you got him.
action;
...Yousuke...why haven't we talked about this before?
[They've both been here for years. They're going out. How had this not come up? It has to be the event.
But even if it is, which one of them is right?]
action;
...You think this is the wrong thing?
action;
action;
[He rubs the heels of his hand into one eye hard enough that it makes starbursts appear in his vision.]
But it feels so real. I'd swear to you up and down, it happened.
action;
[Inside, Souji aches, and he takes a deep breath. Yousuke was honest with him about Namatame. He should be honest too.]
What I remember...
...We didn't stop Adachi. I let him get away.
action;
Why?
[His feelings, however fabricated they may be, keep him from seeing the confession objectively just yet.]
