[ she's been missing for a month. cora doesn't know it for certain, but she can sense something is different about wonderland. it's the smell, the way the leaves crunched differently beneath her feet when she walked out of the woods earlier that day. she can't quite put her finger on what's different, but she knows that the world she had left behind earlier that morning (five weeks ago) has somehow shifted on its axis. ]

[ however, despite her suspicions, cora's not going to bother with the pleasantries. nor is she going to bother to ask. she doesn't do network posts — doesn't see the purpose in them — but she'd been out for a run in the woods. she'd gone out in hopes of pushing herself out of her negative headspace, but has only seemed to dive further in it. ]

Throw a dog a bone. Anyone know any good jokes? Could use a couple. My brother doesn't smile much and it'd be nice to see him :) for once. Or :D if I'm lucky.

[ ha ha. something is off and perhaps it's because derek hale has learnt how to smile. ]

No, that can't happen. Definitely too late.

Adam's willing to tolerate some things, and give someone who's helped him more latitude than most, but one thing he can't do is turn a blind eye. Cora's suggesting he go back to being food, prey for barely-defined phantoms that live in storybooks. If he doesn't know, he'll never be anything but prey.]}

It's a little late, you already said they're here. I'd rather know ahead of time.

[ mostly because it would be hypocritical to a fault coming from her. ]

he won't hurt anyone anymore
but for a few days there it was pretty scary

[ casually not mentioning the killing derek and stiles bit... ]

Don't go around provoking them.

[ she doubts it needs to be said, but it doesn't hurt to hone it home. if you see a werewolf, don't touch it, simply walk on by and try and hide in a room lined with moonstone. but how can she say that without it becoming even more suspicious? ]

I'm not going to be around all the time to pull you back.

[ she remembers what it had been like to be untouched by the moon for three long months. even though she had recognised she was gunning for kids, she couldn't control her urges. she'd gone as far as almost slashing derek to death because of the rage and untamed power she had felt. adam's not exactly her friend, but he's someone she knows — and even if he wasn't, she'd still feel awful if she somehow hurt him. ]

Works for you most of the time? What happens during the times when it doesn't?

Half. Maybe we should stick to closet cooking. I think we can get food from there. Or ask one of the resident chefs to cook for us. But I think it might defeat the purpose of a pack dinner.

[ cora laughs. ]

You should tell Derek that one. It might take him a bit, but he'd laugh. And the world would implode. :p

[ don't ever mention the derek and stiles being killed bit. in fact, forget it. ]

I'm pretty sure if Derek stopped sacrificing himself, he wouldn't be Derek. He's so frustrating

[ and cora accidentally clicks send. she didn't mean to begin ranting about derek, but he's such a fucking moron sometimes. how many times must he die before she can't feel the loss of him anymore? ]

[ she sends another: ]

I might kill him myself.

Depends on what's going on. Either I run, or I find some way of talking myself out of the situation.

[ Yes, when all else has failed, the simple act of just talking has bailed him out more than once. ]

_{[She must think he's stupid. He'd say "do you think I have a death wish?" but they've already established the answer to that in no few words.]}

Is that to protect them or me?

_{[If he has anything to say about it, anything at all, he'll turn the tables and kill a monster before they have the chance to do the same to him. Monsters don't deserve to have the lay of the land, not even here.]}

Definitely not if you keep wandering off.

[ she doesn't think him stupid, but there are things she wishes she had said to some of the people she can no longer talk to. if stating the obvious and implying he's stupid is one of them, then so be it. she'll think him stupid if he tries to provoke a werewolf into an aggressive conversation where his sarcastic quips won't do any harm. ]

Both. But mostly you. Most of them only go after other wolves.

[ like the alpha pack had gone after their own kind, rather than humans. if adam stays out of mind, out of sight, and definitely quiet on knowing whether or not they exist, she thinks he has a good chance of escaping being puppy chow. ]

Hopefully Wonderland decides slowing down time for me for a month was boring. I have no plans on wandering off; really doubt Derek would let me.

[ she really doubts the pack would, either. and that's a comforting thought, even a little strange, to think of herself in a proper pack rather than ones that shift and change as unpredictably as the weather. ]

Do you ever run? I'd think the talking would be more effective.

[ he's human; she doubts he could outrun her on her worst of days. so, she thinks, he'd have to talk. and she believes he does a good job of that, talking in circles to the point where the topic at hand has been whipped to death and the person he's conversing with has forgotten it altogether. ]

Oh, I do it all the time. Love running. I just love it. But talking's good too, and it's very effective, yeah.

[ Well, she's never met him, not in person, so how is she to know that he's a skinny beanpole who is very fond of running and quite fast too? He's also good at the talking in circles bit, but don't underestimate him as a runner. ]

_{[Cora's being too lenient in Adam's opinion, but then that probably has to do with her singing werewolves' praises and playing devil's advocate. Adam has no fond feelings for anything supernatural and dangerous; if they can go after a person, then they likely will, that's a philosophy Adam's all right sticking with until he's unequivocally proven wrong.]}

But it's some kind of secret who they are?

_{[She hasn't been too forthcoming with details, and as a result her warning is half-assed at best. Adam doesn't fail to notice this.]}

That's what older brothers are for.

No. [ Derek admits it right off the bat, ducking his head down to tuck his nose into her hair. He had told Chris that he wouldn't have been able to recognize her scent, at least enough to track her, but now it seems so stupid. She's warm and bright, this twinge of earth, and he'd be able to recognize it anywhere. It hasn't changed, not really. She's just wearing the same armor that he does.

The question is on the tip of his tongue, and he wants to ask it-- desperately so, because she had been so sick in the hospital, had been starting to show those signs here in Wonderland-- but he bites them back. Instead, he brushes a brief kiss to the top of her head, absent affection that he hadn't thought he could give her for six years. ]

Do you think you're still ticklish? [ It's a better alternative, more lighthearted, a callback to her question. If he can focus on this, then he can turn his attention away from the idea that his sister could've been lost again. ]

I don't think I want those repercussions over my head.

Imploding isn't something that I imagine is very fun.

[ that sounds like a great idea. ]

we're all really bad about that though
maybe that's why we all ended up together?

[ and totally not at all because of beacon hills and supernatural stuff. not at all. ]

but I'd hate to think I used up one of his five because he's being frustrating

I'm sure if a few of us try, we can totally whip something up that'll work.

[There's that adorable puppy optimism he has going for him.]

It's up to you to get Derek there, though. I think I can probably get everyone else to agree. Stiles'll totally say yes, Isaac and Allison shouldn't be hard. Lydia will probably tag along with Allison, then you and Derek. I'm not missing anyone, am I?

Probably not. But it'd be a pity if Derek never appreciated a good joke, don't you think?

[ even though cora wishes derek would stop — isn't that what all little sisters want from their big brothers? — she's relieved to find that he hasn't changed at all. she'll pretend to be bothered by his persistence and his overbearing nature when it comes to her and everything she does, but she finds that it's as welcoming as this embrace — she's gone six years without so much as having that annoying older brother she idolised looking out for her while trying to play it off as anything but reputation damaging. ]

[ cora wrinkles her nose and makes a point of trying to wriggle from his grasp. ] I don't want to find out. [ so don't even try it. but, if derek's the boy she remembers, he'll disregard what she says in a bid to tickle her into something other than grumpiness. she tries to sound stern: ] I'll punch you if you try.

[ Rather than complying, Derek opts to tighten his arms carefully around her. He remembers the two of them being obnoxious towards each other when they were younger, Cora butting into his affairs to get his attention, Derek picking on her as all older siblings were wont to do. But now, they've got a chance to catch up on all that, and he's certainly not going to pass that up. ]

No? [ He shifts around a little, fingers skirting against her ribs experimentally. He knows better than to think that she won't actually slug him, but all the same he risks it with a quirk at the corner of his mouth. The tentative touch turns into actual prodding, little ticklish things. ] Of course you will.

[ threatening derek has never, ever worked, not even when she couldn't slug anything, let alone her pillowcase with her fist. why does she expect him to take note of her threat and heed to her wishes now? it's almost asking for him to do as she wishes him not to, threatening him with a punch if he even tries — but of course he does, and cora's stupid for not thinking he would follow through with his promise. ]

[ she can't help the laughter, but she does attempt to keep her voice stern and threatening. ] Stop! [ cora removes her arms from around his back and makes an effort to snake them between them in order to give him a great, mighty shove against his chest. ]

[ When they were younger, of course they'd rough housed and had play fights. All of her threats had fallen on deaf ears, despite how much of a fight Cora had to her even when she was four, seven, eleven. But he's always been bigger than her, and he's always used that to his advantage when finding all the weak points that get her to squirm and laugh.

To see that it hasn't changed is a relief, in a way.

It's only when she gives the shove that he releases, arms loosening so that she can get space between them. Derek offers her an affectionate look, coupled with a great deal of amusement. The concern is still there, but Cora is lively enough right now that he's briefly soothed. ]

[ free of his assault, cora narrows her eyes and gives derek a shove. ] You are as annoying as you were when you were younger. [ she laughs it out, though, arms coming to wrap around her torso in a bid to protect herself from any future sieges. ]

[ in an attempt to pull herself together, she tries to bite the curve of her mouth into a line, but she finds that it's next to impossible. so, she attempts to harden her voice, but it only comes out as a trickle of faint laughter. ] I'll kick you in the shins next time. [ her attempt at appearing menacing is just as weak as an eleven year-old trying to appear taller than she had been. derek will always be taller and bigger and stronger, but she's agile and at a slight advantage if she happens to muster up tears in a bid to sell the story of him being too rough. she remembers how she used to cry, just to get him in trouble. but she doubts it'll work now — if anything, she believes the pack will jump in and help him. ]

[ to further her menacing facade, she raises her eyebrows and hardens her voice. ] I'm serious.

[ Rather than remain a rock against the shove, Derek relaxes enough that he sways back. Temporarily reassured as he is, it's easy for him to just fall into the roughhousing. So long as Cora is laughing, then he's happy. ] Pretty sure I could say the same for you.

[ But he doesn't mean it, really. For as exasperated as he's been with her since she came back into his life, she... came back into his life. He can't really complain, especially not with how much they get along now compared to how annoyed he'd been with her when they were younger.

A snort escapes him, all clear amusement, and he steps towards her, angled to the side in the event that she does decide to kick him. She's got a lot of tricks up her sleeves-- which is good, she'll need them for when she's up against someone that isn't out to just tickle her. ] I believe you.

[ considering she doesn't know who half of them could be, let alone if it's only her pack in wonderland that's a wolf, cora doesn't particularly feel like boxing herself in by saying she knows, but she won't tell. it requires more sniffing around, catching onto foreign scents that don't smell so much as human as they do wolf. she's probably doing that exact same thing with her response, anyway. ]

How about I rain check on the whole Wonderland's Most Wanted Werewolf list? Still fine tuning.

[ but: ]

If you see a big dog, stay away from it.

[ that's not a half-assed warning, is it? even though she could add to that to stay away from derek, he looks like a big dog, anyway. ]
