[The feed is initially dark and grainy, showing not a whole lot of anything, though there is sound. Specifically, the sound of someone taking a few steps, tripping, and falling over with a surprised sound that's not quite dignified.]

Ow...

[As the unfortunate new comer starts to right himself, his hand jostles against the device and closes around it automatically. The camera angle changes as the device is turned over, inspected, and then a very surprised and confused face appears on the feed.

Kaneki is pretty average looking, except for the eye patch. Right now, he's a bit scuffed, dusty, and what little can be seen in the faint light from the screen shows he's in the caves. He fumbles the device for a moment before he manages to hold it steady.]

Er... I think I'm in a hole...somehow. I don't know if there's anyone around or if I have reception at all but if there is someone...

[He offers a smile that's equal parts embarrassed, apologetic, and nervous, rubbing the back of his head with his free hand. Actually, maybe he's more nervous than the other two.]

I could use a hand, if there is.

[There were lots of memories to pick and choose from. Minato could only hope that if he did ever get to go home, he'd get them back. That's what seemed to happen.]

And I am from Japan. From Tokyo. I've lived there all my life...until now, I guess.

[2013 was farther ahead than even Souji. Minato filed that information away for later.]

Iwatodai. 2010. I lived in Tokyo for a while, but i'm from Iwatodai.

[Kaneki's not sure he's ever heard of Iwatodai, but he'll look it up later on.]

How old are you, Minato-kun?

[Minato guessed that Kaneki was a bit older than him, but it couldn't be by much.]

17. [Forever.] And you?

I'm nineteen. [~~Because apparently I was wrong and he's a second year college student?~~] I was studying literature at Kamii University.

What's it like?

[University life and all that. Too bad it had got disrupted.]

At Kamii? [Kaneki has to take a second to think about that.] It's a pretty big campus with a lot of students. It's really got a wide variety of programs.

I guess my experience there is pretty average, if there is such a thing.

[Minato listened. What Kaneki said seemed pretty normal, yeah.]

Average is fine. Lots of people would like to be average.

Yeah... I think that's understandable.

[Ugh, now he's thinking about depressing things. Time to change the subject elsewhere.]

Are you in your third year of high school, Minato-kun? You'll be taking entrance exams soon, then. What do you want to study?

[Minato opened the door to out of the basement and to the Mansion proper.]

I finished my second year. And if I can, medicine.

[He smiled a little.]

I'll think about my third year when it actually happens.

That's probably for the best. Studying for exams is pretty serious work, depending on where you want to be accepted, but it's not the only thing to focus on, even during third year. ...No matter what your teachers and parents tell you.

But what if I want to go to Todai?

[Minato smiled at that, thinking that maybe he could someday. Maybe. But didn't that take a lot of work? He was just teasing a bit though.]

It's the same. I think if you have the skills to get into Todai, you're going to get even if you don't half-kill yourself studying for the entrance exam.

[Minato showed Kaneki around the first floor. They could climb the stairs in a second.]

Then what else should I be focusing on?

Whatever you want, I guess.

[Kaneki tilts his head back, looking at the walls and ceilings as much as anything else.]

Spend time with friends and enjoy yourself.

[Kitchen, ballroom, by happy circumstance the music room, done and done. Onward to the second floor!

Minato smiled to himself after Kaneki spoke. He had done that. But time. He wished now that he had more time for it. It wasn't a regret, just a wish.]

I'll try. I guess that's what my future's for.

[But that was going to stray too far into a conversation they perhaps shouldn't be having right about now.]

Did you want to get something to eat? I can show you the Dining Room next.

[The mention of food puts Kaneki into evasion mode, though he manages to pass it off smoothly on the outside, at least.]

I'm not all that hungry now, but it would be good to know where it is.

[Oh, man, if he only knew. Minato nodded, then showed Kaneki where it was along with the tearoom on this floor.]

Whatever you think of to eat, it'll appear. It's convenient.

[Super convenient for Minato, at least.]

[Kaneki wonders if that includes anything and if it does, if that "anything" would be...recognizable. He's careful not to think about anything while he's there, though.]

It seems like it. Is this how most people eat here?

I think so. If you know how to cook, you can use the kitchen.

[Minato would have to practice cooking, of course.]

Did you want to find a room for yourself?

I can take any one I want? [Assuming it's not taken, of course.] That's a little overwhelming.

Why is that?

[Minato was just curious. Minato liked having his own room, even when he were forced to have his own room. It gave him a place to call his own, his own little world.]

This place is huge.

The halls go on forever, it seems. But pick whichever one you want.

[Minato by chance just picked a room in which the numbers meant something to him, but he really did just want the fifth room on a lower floor is all because it was what he was used to.]

It'll change to however you want it to be.
