[ when the feed opens, it's on the floor at first, but after a second it turns to face a pretty girl with long brown hair and a bit of a smile on her face, sitting on the bed in her room. elena looks happy, which is, unbeknownst to the citizens of wonderland, kind of an unusual thing for her. ]

So, Wonderland. [ her tone conveys what she thinks of that, thanks, but she continues on after a moment with her smile growing wider. ] My name is Elena Gilbert, I'm new, and I have a question for you all, if you don't mind.

[ she rests her chin on her hand and raises an eyebrow. ] Is Wonderland better than wherever you came from? Like... personally, I miss my friends, obviously, but I don't want to go back home, because someone very important to me is here, and they're... gone, back home. [ now she looks a little shifty -- she doesn't want damon to know either how important he is to her or that he's dead when she comes from. ] Does anyone else here have something like that? A loved one back from the dead, or maybe you're back from the dead? You're missing out on the apocalypse?

Just curious!

[ and now the feed cuts out, and elena flops back on her bed, grinning at the ceiling. ]

[ Because the last time he saw her she assured him his mother was not lying. Niklaus said otherwise. She has a hand in his mother's plans and so did the Salvatore brothers. Not to mention her brother apparently is responsible for Kol's death. Then there's the matter of Stefan staking Finn. It's safe to say he might not be pleased. ]

What a pity that the people who are apparently gone back home for me haven't made it here. I suppose I'm cursed in a way.

[ He's not pleased, but he'll remain calm. ]

I'm pretty pleased to not be back in the middle of the apocalypse. This place is like a holiday.

Someone's rather cheerful.

[ He hasn't decided how annoying it is yet. It's certainly a change of tone when compared to the typical post from a new arrival.

It's also a change from her usual disposition. Which probably had more to do with him than it being her general mood. ]

So far, general opinion is not in favor of this being better.

Personally, I'm torn about wanting to stay or leave. But I can understand why a lot of people would want to stay, especially people who have died.

[A beat. Now that he's spoken his opinion, he feels a little nervous about talking to someone he doesn't know. He's really not that good at that.]

Ah...um I'm Kaneki Ken, by the way. [...] The first one is my family name.

[ He squints at the feed. ]

Stefan here?

[ Because obviously she's not talking about him. ]

[An interesting question. One that, only a week or two ago, might have warranted a different response from her.]

I think this is the one place that I find more confusing than High School.

( well, at least somebody here is happy. kate hasn't spent too much time on the network, still just a little too busy hoping this is all a bad dream she's going to wake up from any minute now.

but at least she's cleaned herself up since her arrival, no longer looks like she's been in a fight for her life recently. )

I haven't been here very long, but there's nobody from home. ( and she will not allow herself to be upset about that. not now, anyway. ) But aside from that, I guess it's a little better here.

I wouldn't call it better, but it's a break from what's going on where I come from.

I'm surprised you've already decided you'd rather to be here, since you said you're new. Wonderland has a way of making you regret preferring this place. [ what a debbie downer. ]

Well, aren't you in a good mood for someone who's been kidnapped to a place that does't actually exist.

[ Hayley arches an eyebrow at the overly cheerful vampire from mystic Falls. Geez, they're just popping up all over lately, aren't they? What did Wonderland do, find a 'buy one get one free' when it came to the supernatural in their respective cities?

She doesn't know Elena all that well - most of her involvement in Mystic Falls had been on the Tyler and Caroline and then Klaus end of things, but she'd caught enough information to guess at the general gist of group dynamics.

Besides in this place, familiar is familiar, right? ]

[ Well that's an unexpected outlook from a new arrival. Not entirely unusual - Natasha knew that there were a few here who preferred Wonderland to home for various reasons. And some that had no life to go back to. But after a week of threats and curses over the network from confused people who'd unexpectedly found themselves here, it's a notable switch. ]

A it of a rarer outlook, I must confess. Do you have a lot of apocalypses, back where you're from?

[ Because that is also apparently a thing here. ]

Hello, Elena. I suppose I can safely say 'welcome to Wonderland' without it sounding too ironic, in this case. I'm Natasha.

[From what Steve can tell, this Elena Gilbert isn't new at all. She appears happy, almost well-adjusted, with no confusion about where she is or why.

So he jumps directly into answering her question. It's complicated for him, because Bucky isn't actually gone back home, but he's definitely different and no matter which way Steve looks at it, he'll never have this again.]

I think a lot of people here have something like that. Wonderland's got to give us a good reason to want to stay. But... [This is the hard part. His mouth thins into a line and he sighs.] Tempting as it might be, I know I have to go back, at least. There's a lot I still need to do.

Why does it not surprise me that you seem to have swallowed the whole story without so much as missing a beat?

[Translation: hello, Elena, long time no see. The two of them have never exactly been friends -- quite the opposite -- but Rebekah hasn't forgotten that for a short while, they were allies if nothing else, and that, she feels, should put them on mostly neutral standing.

At the very least, nobody should be stabbing anyone else, even if her words aren't particularly kind.]

You seem to be settling in well.

[Of course she is -- because Elena Gilbert is perfect and handles everything gracefully and never throws a tantrum or is out of sorts, unlike certain other vampires.]

Interesting question for your first broadcast.

[It isn't her first broadcast technically. Bela wonders if anyone has mentioned to Elena that she has been here before.]

A little better but not without is risks. I think that is the best way that I can answer it.

[ Someone looks like they're taking all this pretty well.

As things stand right now, yeah, he's happy here and he's got no interest in going back home. He's got everything - and, more importantly, everyone - that he needs. It's not really all that complicated.

The answer is on his tongue when the video starts, but he he hesitates visibly, re-considering a moment too late.

Even knowing what he does, something about the idea of staying in Wonderland is vaguely discomforting. Maybe because he knows it's only a matter of time. He puts on a smile for the camera. ]

Well, the food's definitely something to write home about. You really think it's better here, because your friend's here?

[ There's nothing accusatory in his tone -- he's purely curious. There aren't a lot of positive opinions about Wonderland floating around. ]

Well... [ Lana actually considers this. ] Wonderland is crazy, but not "everyone dies" crazy. So... it has its moments, I guess.

[Wow Elena. Way to nail his issues to the wall there.]

It's remarkable how many might actually say yes to that.

[Completely dry.]

In a lot of ways, this place is like a paradise. [ he can't say there aren't any prophecies but they don't center around him, so he'll take it. fewer quests, fewer near death experiences, no gods butting into his personal life and then asking, do you mind? when he looks at them funny. but Percy Jackson learned a long time ago that things that look too good to be true usually are, and that's true enough of Wonderland for all the drama it's brought him lately.

but it still trumps being in Tartarus, so yeah, definitely likes this place better still. ]

Bad stuff still happens here, but you have to take all the bad in with the good. Personally, I still like this place better than the constant roller coaster being at home was, even if I miss my family.

[ It's definitely an interesting question, different from all the others on the network at the moment. Amongst new arrivals it's the one that stands out the most to him, gets him thinking too.

Maybe before New York his answer would be different. Most likely, actually. It's a whole different thing when someone lives their life constantly on the run - back then this place would be no less than a safe haven for him. But that was when he was alone and frankly hopeless; he's a little less so now. ]

It has its ups and downs. But I'd prefer home. [ Still feels strange to be using that word. ] But I don't have anyone here that I wouldn't have there. I'm not dead back there either. And not missing on the apocalypse either, though for a little while we almost got the end of the world as we know it.
