001 » intro » video + action
[ Carl doesn't know where this place is, nor appreciates being kidnapped away from his family really, but when he turns on the video, he is settled in the library comfortably away from the majority of unfamiliar faces here and trying as hard as he can to look calm for whom he assumes are his captors... and fellow kidnappees.
Of course what you don't know is that in the last half hour or so, during his initial arrival, he was 100% an open display of panic, uneasiness, and questions before even getting to this point. And while he's found most his answers and come to calm considerably on the outside, he has a couple more question to ask right now! ]
Dad? Are you here? [ His voice ventures with that to start, hoping if his dad, or anyone he knew, in fact, were here it would alert them to his presence on the spot. Then putting on his brave face and moving more to the point, he continues: ] Um, I was told- [ actually ] I overheard that this's how you can talk to everyone, so I was wondering if anyone seen my friends.
There's Michonne, Glenn, Daryl, my dad. Rick Grimes... [ And others too. But honestly there's too many to list so he trails off at his dad's name, which sounds weird rolling off his tongue because the man was always respectfully just dad to him.
In any case, he figures if anybody knows one of his friends, they'll know all of them. He appears thoughtful about what he should say for a moment before he skips right to a closing thought. ]
So, if you see them, tell them I'm here. To call me on this phone. [ a pause ] Or just tell me how to find them.
(ooc: oh yeah, and a small note! happy to have anyone bump into him in the library or before that. anything is cool with me, really! PM me or add me on plurk at
Naonith if you'd like to talk or plot.)

Still, being honest to a degree, he shakes his head at that. But again leaving his true thoughts unsaid and moving to the other half of the topic about phones.]
No... yes. They were common before everything changed...
[When the dead didn't stay dead and became the undead and all that, you know. Carl figures he should but then his head wraps around more of the wording choices the man uses like "where you come from" and especially "mage" and "Amaranthine" which make no sense to him. His mind flips to confusion.]
No... A mage? What? Where?
[None of that makes sense.]

Shit, why do these things happen to me! probably won't cover it, will it?]
A mage? From Amaranthine? Not ringing any bells? I get the feeling something else is going on if either of us only understands two words out of five.
[Usually a concussion or a nasty hangover are to blame, but not this time.]
You know of mages, don't you?

[He says matter of factly, frowning. If there "were" such a place in his world, school closed down for life or death reasons long before he learned about it. But he doubts there is a place called that.
Far as he can say, actually, is...] The only mages I know are things of comics, [to clarify:] children's stories.

[His expression initially shows incredulity, but as the disbelieving reply starts to leave his mouth and he hears how it sounds, he cuts himself off, brows lowering with an exasperated self-awareness.]
Maker's breath, now I'm starting to sound like your echo. [He rests a hand on his waist, a sigh caught in his throat.] Well, now you know me and I'm one. There's a first time for everything. We must come from very different places--I was worried that was the case. Sometimes it's not worth being right.

Nothing is wrong with what I know. [He objects, clearly a little offended by that but still trying to sound calm. He listens to the rest of what the mage has to say, less willing to consider the possibility because of his childish pride or sensibility, before asking:]
How do I know you're just not making it all up?
no subject
[That earns another soft laughed, surprised but not lacking in amusement. A challenge to put his money where is mouth is a challenge he could easily meet, but if he really is dealing with someone who's never had a run-in with others of his kind before...
He wouldn't want to rattle the kid any more than this place has. Maker knows Anders is uneasy, and he's the one with the powerful energies at his beck and call.]
Are you asking to see some magic? Well... I'll show you if you're sure it won't send you screaming--I'm guessing the librarians would shush me into an early grave. What a terrible way to go that would be.
