[When the video comes on, Shepard is outright laughing in absolute joy. She also doesn't look like she's anywhere familiar to anyone. The wall behind her is solid, and it looks like there's a seating space behind her, and it's... moving? The whole camera seems to be shaking a bit and there's a pervasive hum throughout, but she just looks more jazzed than anyone has ever been. She's muttering at first, but picks up when she's sure it's on.]

Alright, finally got signal-- So! When they said treasure, I was kinda expecting gold or literal gems, but this is way better. Check this out.

[The rumbling comes to a stop and Shepard climbs out, and slowly, the whole picture comes into view. Shepard stands in front of it, proudly.]

This is the M35 Mako. A fully armed battle tank. I haven't had access to one of these in a long time. [She's back to laughing while she talks.] I have no idea why this was down there.

Anyway-- comms are down, so I'm leaving this message here. I'm going back in with this. Anyone needs evac, let me know. I can cover a lot more ground with this thing.

... And hey, when this is all over, I'll be more than happy to show everyone how to make it do a kickflip.

Pretty well, actually. Not all the side-paths, but the main halls are wide enough. And... this thing's pretty good at tight corners. I've had to jam it through ruins before.

[She has absolutely shot open a cave wall at least once with the rocket. Yeah, ok, so the caves might be unstable. It'll be fine. Fiiiiine.]

I don't, honestly. This thing has some heat signature tracking and I've mostly been following that. It's not precise, but if it helps someone, it helps someone.

Not just a tank, my tank. It's... weirdly nice.

[She's sort of... looking at them, like she's curious. Do kids like tanks? She doesn't remember. She's also not certain how old this child is. Once you get past 25 everyone just starts being sorted into "older than you" and "younger than you", and this one absolutely falls into the second category.]

Can't do anything with it here, not really, but it's fun to have.

[Alex has been trekking through the tunnels since yesterday, trying to make his way back out of here, but the issue is that he didn't mark his way when he started out on his stupid quest, or whatever. He would have, but he got jumped by a half-dozen whatchamacallits...Hellspawn, or whatever, and from there he's been spending most of his time running, shooting, or stopping to catch his breath.

So when a fucking tank rolls out of goddamn nowhere, Alex scrambles back in utter dismay, groping for his laser rifle with his mouth wide open.]

[Shepard stops when she sees a person- and someone pretty decidedly not infected, to boot- and pulls the tank to a stop, making sure not to crush the guy. She swings the door open, standing on the steps to the front and looking over so he can see her face.]

[Shepard grins a little bit; this kid speaks in a familiar way, but she's not sure if she's spoken to him before. She does talk to a lot of people- who knows.]

Uhhh... huh. Listen, I've been driving people back outta here- you want a ride? The route's long, but it's probably better than walking. Also, this canon can shoot the hell out of the things crawling around in here.

[She points a thumb to the fucking rocket launcher atop the Mako. She's never been more happy to have this thing, honestly.]

[He laughs, high and aching with relief. His legs are sore from walking and his stomach is clenching in the way that suggests he hasn't eaten in something like twenty-four hours. Not fun, but whatever, he can handle it. But the idea that he might get a ride outta here is a complete and utter relief.]

Far as I know, I'm clean. People are getting infected now?

[Alex wrinkles his nose. Didn't they already do zombies? Yeesh.]

I absolutely have before. My squad wasn't incredibly happy, but in my opinion, I handle this incredibly well. You just have to be okay with being in it when it happens... and a few more mountains.

[It's really good no one that has ever been in the Mako with Shepard is here, because she's certain they'd be running to contest this. But fuck it. She is great at driving this thing.]

Of course. The canon on top's a self-recharging laser, too, so it never runs out of ammo. Leveled a couple trees in the forest immediately just because I had to.
