He's quiet for a few seconds, as though he's listening to something. Then he looks at the device, pensive.]

How much should someone worry about the future? Or is the present more important?

On that, I remain unclear. Perhaps the mansion feels that it has already consumed all memories of any real value to it and sees no further need to keep them here.

That's a possibility. It might explain bringing back the same person multiple times.

If it knows them to possess memories which serve it well, it makes sense to return them here anew as many times as it is able.
