[ Sarah's lounging in bed, hair up in a ponytail, and she doesn't have much to say except: ]

Why are there no old people here? You know, like...I'm going to go out on a limb and say I definitely haven't seen anyone over 60. And I'm talking visually. Don't be a smart ass and tell me you're over 1,000, I get it, some of you are immortal or magic or...whatever. I'm just saying, no one appears to be over the age of, I don't know, post mid-life crisis.

I wonder why that would be? Wonderland has a youthful aesthetic to maintain? If you're over, say, 65 in human years, raise your hand.

I find this form to be acceptable enough, and it serves well to keep me from being noticed. [No one looks more than once at someone who appears as normal as Regis does.]

But there are far more 'distinguished looking' vampires than I.

You definitely seem like one of the old guys who plays chess at the park. Can I ask where you're from? Just out of curiosity, you don't have to say if you don't want to.

I do play chess. Rather well, in fact.

[Maybe not in parks, so much, but he has beaten Cullen at the game on a few occasions. Honestly, he could use more people to play against.]

And that is a more complicated question than you might expect. [Because Regis, as a general rule, is complicated.] The place that I was born no longer exists. Where my people came from is somewhere I have never been. My last place of residence was Beauclair, in the Duchy of Toussaint.

I never learned how to play. Chinese checkers, though, that's a fun one.

[ One that she still has no idea how to play but she super loved the colored marbles as a kid. ]

That does seem complicated. I guess the question's really 'where do you like to call home?'

[ Which doesn't necessarily have to be Beauclair, probably. ]

Not a game I'm familiar with. [Chinese Checkers, that is. Though he couldn't say if there was a game with similar rules under a different name on the Continent.]

Hm. [Again, it isn't an easy question. Where do you call home when your home is somewhere that you can't reach?]

I would imagine it is wherever I am. In the absence of being able to return to my people's true home, I must make the best of whatever situation I find myself in.

That's the best attitude to have, probably. Also maybe the hardest one. They say home isn't a place. It's a feeling.

If one takes home to be a feeling, then it can simply be wherever you lay your hat down. Some people don't take to the nomadic life, however...

I've never really moved around much, but I think it'd be okay as long as I had some kind of constant. Like a person who made me feel like I was home no matter where I was. For me, that'd be my son and my brother. Wherever they are, I think that place could feel like home if I had to go.

[ Nevermind the fact that Kurt is actually here in Wonderland. ]

I believe I understand. I truly had a family, as a human would understand it, but I have had close friends who provide a similar sense of belonging.

[Unfortunately, they will all die long before he does, but that doesn't make their presence in his life any less valuable to him.]

Oh, good. That's important. Do you have people here, too?

[ She doesn't necessarily mean people from home, they could be friends he's made along the way in Wonderland. ]

No one from home, though I have met some people here that I am happy to while away time with when the occasion calls for it.

[He smiles faintly.]

I believe that Commander Cullen may even beat me at chess one day.

Good. It makes me happy when people have...people. It makes this place a little bit more bearable.

If you ever feel like teaching someone how to play chess, I think I'd make a pretty good student. I mean, if you're looking for any more people here you're happy to see.

[He looks momentarily surprised by the offer - or, the prompt for an offer. Regis is forever an expressive person, not tending towards guarded looks unless the situation calls for it.]

I believe I'd enjoy that, [He says, smiling slightly.] But perhaps introductions would first be in order? My name is Regis.

Oh, shit, sorry. Sometimes I just...launch into things. It's nice to meet you, Regis. I'm Sarah.

[ She thinks, but does not say out loud: Regis and Kathy Lee! She has a feeling he wouldn't know what she means, anyway. ]

A pleasure, Sarah. And never apologise for enthusiasm.

[Another smile, and a soft chuckle.]

If you were serious about wanting to learn, I have an abundance of free time.

I'm really serious. I have appointments for massages, so if you tell me the best time for you, then I can work around that.

[ Maybe they can narrow something down, because she's super excited about this now. ]

I think it only fair, since you have prior engagements and I do not, that we work with your schedule rather than my own.

[He's certainly looking forward to the prospect.]

There is nothing pressing in my near future which cannot be rearranged.

Then I'll look at my schedule and definitely let you know. I appreciate it. And I'm kind of excited to learn something new.

[ She's honestly never considered she could learn chess, so this is a pretty nice turn of events. ]
