Why are there no old people here? You know, like...I'm going to go out on a limb and say I definitely haven't seen anyone over 60. And I'm talking visually. Don't be a smart ass and tell me you're over 1,000, I get it, some of you are immortal or magic or...whatever. I'm just saying, no one appears to be over the age of, I don't know, post mid-life crisis.

I wonder why that would be? Wonderland has a youthful aesthetic to maintain? If you're over, say, 65 in human years, raise your hand.

So, you got any theories? Maybe it's like virgin sacrifices, they just need young people here. Although given how much this place runs on memories, you'd think they'd want older people.

Nah just lucked out on looking young so far. I expect back home I'd have looked older eventually. Probably.

[ Well, there's a past tense that gets her attention, and Sarah just mentally thinks fuck before deciding not to call attention to it. Because who wants to discuss their death? She's assuming it's not casual conversation, and she'll spare him the questions unless he ever wants to tell her. ]

Maybe old people are too mellow to get riled up about all the things that happen. I mean, at a certain point you just aren't going to be able to run and fight the way this place seems to always want us to.

I don't have much to offer in the way of actual skills, but I'd fight for a lot of the people here.

I know a little, thanks to my brother. Oh, and I've been learning how to shoot a crossbow, so that makes me feel like a badass.

Agreed. I think someone just likes seeing what we do, how we cope with things. Why watch us, otherwise?

Hey, I ain't sure how practical a crossbow is, but definitely badass. Smart idea anyway, given how often technology fails us here.

If guns ever go away for whatever reason, I'll be ready, I guess. Also, I don't know that I'd even feel better with a logical reason for why this place does anything the way it does. Maybe it's better to just. Let it go.

Guns have been away before, so it's a good choice. Reason I always carry a knife these days. [He also carries both the cold gun and a regular gun, but those have both been proven useless before.]

Guess trying to make sense of it helps some people cope. Just dunno if there is much to it.

There probably isn't. But somehow it feels better than just sitting down and...accepting that we're here without ever questioning it.

Even if people don't want to leave, I think it's still hard to wrap your mind around what this place...is? What it does? Maybe that's just me coming from the world of soccer moms and hot yoga.

[ Not that she's ever done hot yoga, but it's normal and boring is her point. ]

This place is a...maybe 'culture shock' isn't the right phrase. But I think wanting to stay because it's better than home and having to take some time to catch your breath aren't necessarily mutually exclusive, you know?

[ Because God knows her brother is conflicted, she knows that. As if his life wasn't shitty enough, but that's a whole other conversation, probably to only be had with Kurt. ]

Yeah, not saying it is. If I'd gotten any choice in where to go on holiday, a place like this wouldn't have been it.

It's literally doing yoga in a hot room that'll make you want to die. Or maybe that was just me.

I was in a steam room in Russia not that long ago. Fun times.

I could do a steam room. Hot yoga is just twenty-somethings with an excuse to wear the least amount of gym clothes possible.

[ She shrugs; when she was twenty she still wouldn't have done it considering she was busy being pregnant. And honestly, everyone knows it's just showing off. ]
