[ Sarah's lounging in bed, hair up in a ponytail, and she doesn't have much to say except: ]

Why are there no old people here? You know, like...I'm going to go out on a limb and say I definitely haven't seen anyone over 60. And I'm talking visually. Don't be a smart ass and tell me you're over 1,000, I get it, some of you are immortal or magic or...whatever. I'm just saying, no one appears to be over the age of, I don't know, post mid-life crisis.

I wonder why that would be? Wonderland has a youthful aesthetic to maintain? If you're over, say, 65 in human years, raise your hand.

[ as someone who's over 500 years old and has been experiencing a mid-life crisis for half of that time, katherine should really be raising her hand. she doesn't, though. spending five centuries pretending she's within the age brackets of 18 to early 20s has left her as guarded as she always is. wonderland may be accepting of creatures like her, but that doesn't mean katherine accepts herself. ]

[ it's an interesting question nonetheless, and so she decides to entertain it. ]

Or perhaps if you remain the same as you were when you arrived, you never would think of leaving. Isn't Wonderland all about never quite staying on time?

Wonderland does have that going for it classicly, for sure. And maybe this is me getting too caught up in Wonderland conspiracy.

[ It probably is. ]

Maybe to this place, it's about the number and not the looks. I mean, never judge a book by its cover, right? Kind of applies to people too.

And age is more than just a number. [ and means nothing, not unless one immortal person's physical strength is compared to another immortal's. she could say that, but she's never been too keen to show her age. ] Or so people who need an excuse for the things they do say. [ (it's what she says, sometimes.) ]

[ she tilts her head, expression thoughtful ] Were there mature people in Wonderland? I don't even think the queens were that old.

There are, apparently. Someone has very aggressively and angrily since told me so. But it makes sense that the population wouldn't be that large. Physically elderly people aren't always known for being spry, and these events aren't exactly a walk in the retirement village park.

I wouldn't underestimate someone of retirement age. Life hands you lemons and more often than not they're the ones who throw those lemons right back.

[ or turn them into some sort of weapon, but does that really count if katherine's surpassed retirement age? ]

People are very sensitive about their ages. Have you had much luck in discovering who's old and who's very old?

True, but the sensitivity here went the opposite direction and someone was offended that I just hadn't seen any elderly people around.

[ That'd been a surprise plot twist. ]

But some people have stepped forward, yep. People who are a couple hundred years old, at least. Which is super interesting to me. I had no idea this guy I made out with once was almost as old as America.

[ it seems like it's always a lose/lose situation. katherine shouldn't be surprised; she's been around long enough to see how sensitive some delicate creatures are. ]

[ onto important matters, though. her expression shifts, and it's into something more playful as she asks: ] And how was he? As disappointing as old America?

Eh, not disappointing. It was kind of a moment where we could have died at any time because I think we were supposed to be trick-or-treating or be murdered.

[ Sarah smirks, then shrugs. ]

He was fun, and now we're friends. I don't think he goes around advertising the vampire thing, though.

[ Which is why she hasn't mentioned his name; she isn't sure if Damon would want everyone to know it, necessarily. ]

[ katherine's brow arches, her interest definitely piqued. she knows of a few vampires around wonderland rather well, but also knows that there's a few here who are vampires not from mystic falls. she wonders if they're just as sad as the ones from home, or more entertaining. ]

A vampire? Not many people would describe them as fun.

Well, this one just happened to be, and it was a nice distraction from all the murder happening around the mansion at the time.

[ Sarah makes a face at herself. ]

Should probably get to know people better, in the future.

I hear vampires suck.

[ and katherine pierce finally reveals she can tell a joke. sort of. ]

I'd say that's in your best interest. Wonderland may seem like a dream, but dreams always turn into nightmares. The events are enough evidence of that.

Oh my God, was that a pun? What a great one, I love it.

[ And Sarah is actually laughing because that seemed effortless and she appreciates it so much. ]

You're right, I mean. The actual Devil is here so. Time to be more careful, although I make out with one person exclusively now, so at least there's that.

[ No more random strangers, good development, Sarah. ]

[ when katherine smiles at sarah's laughter, it isn't one that's put upon. she actually genuinely feels good about making someone laugh. it's not something that happens on the regular, or has over the last four or so centuries. ]

Are you sure they're not known to be a fallen angel? Wonderland's not exactly a walk in the normal, human park.

Ray is very human, I'm definitely sure. A superhero in his world, but still, human.

[ That's when it hits her that her boyfriend is a superhero and she's been trying to compete with that at the gym. LOL, Sarah. She's for sure taking it less seriously, now. ]
