We're already in some magical land that makes our dreams come true - mostly the bad ones - so let's think about the impossible some more.
[Leonard may be calling it "impossible" mostly to heckle one specific Brit, given he's travelled through time himself, but maybe it will also flush out other time travellers. May be interesting.]
If you could travel to any point in history, where and when would you go, and why?
Also, if you could travel to any point in your own personal history, your lifetime... Same questions.
Would you try to change anything?
[He has experience with trying and the resulting failure too.]

Interesting that I have my own opinions?
( she can stand by barry and not agree with all of his choices. much as she understands the grief-stricken impulse that led to flashpoint, it didn't make it any less of a mistake with massive consequences. a heartbreaking mistake, one she will defend him for, but a mistake. )
Everything that's ever happened, good or bad, has led me to where I am. ( there's no telling how changing one event could lead her in the opposite direction. of course there are things she would want to change. she would want francine west or nora allen to live, for starters. ultimately, iris is much too selfless to actually do it, especially after seeing the ramifications of going back. the weight that barry carries now on his shoulders. )

You are always opinionated. Interesting that this is your opinion. Not even surprising, just taking note.
But you're right, that's fact. What if you don't like where you are? Or what if the circumstances that led you where you are are the same circumstances that might have been even worse on someone else?
Not changing things for your sake is one thing. Would you change things for the sake of someone you love?
p r i v a t e.
( if flash is justice, then iris west is truth. it wouldn't occur to her to answer leonard with anything else. she wouldn't have addressed his post unless she planned on having an honest conversation. but she also isn't inclined to engage so vulnerably with someone who won't level with her, as well.
and though leonard snart, of all people, doesn't owe her that, she still wants to see how deep she should go here. )
p r i v a t e.
[Leonard actually rarely lies directly. It happens, but usually he's more likely to just avoid an outright answer and be impossible, as Iris likes to put it. But here he is, opening up.
For now.]
Just thinking about things. Ain't got a future,
so "what if" is about all to ponder.
p r i v a t e.
If I could take away the darkness, or steal away the pain of those I love, I'd be tempted to.
I just don't know that I'd be able to go through with it. I've learned there's too many factors and too many consequences outside of our control.
( only iris has lived through flashpoint. she still carries that with her on her own. )
I don't know that you can win against time. You can only respect it.
p r i v a t e.
[It's not really funny, his dry tone translates well over text.]
The Time Masters told us that things were set in stone. They'd also played us for most of the mission we were on. Everything was happening as it was supposed to happen.
I don't like people playing me. Raymond was the one meant to die in that explosion you saw.
I ain't big on respect.
p r i v a t e.
the cadence of leonard snart's tone is irrepressibly unique. )
I don't have any experience with Time Masters.
I don't know how they relate to the Speed Force, or any of it. I just know that changing one thing about the past can lead to changing a lot of things. There's no telling someone hadn't already tried to reverse the mission.
Like anything else, going back for your sister was a decision, and only you could have made it.
( it's probably why leonard is getting such varied responses. not everyone would do the same thing. but iris west? she wouldn't change any of it. )
p r i v a t e.
[Which may or may not be setting a low bar.]
Sure. And only my father could have fucked it up anyway.
I was a gorgeous baby though, time travel's taught me that too.
p r i v a t e.
( he's not lying, iris. look at them eyes. )
Rip Hunter. He's the Time Master that arriver recently, right?
p r i v a t e.
[No one can resist those steel blues.]
Recently is relative, but yeah. That's the one. He's a rogue Time Master. Still stiff, but more fun.
p r i v a t e.
( iris ain't blind, okay. and she's not above teasing, either. )
Look, I didn't know your dad, either. So my word might not mean much to you, but I do know what drives a person to want to go back and change something. ( she understands that gut-wrenching desperation, the single-minded determination. )
It's not your fault you weren't able to change it. ( he couldn't help the fact his father was an abusive asshole anymore than they can help the fact they're stuck in wonderland. captain cold is guilty of many crimes, but not this one. )
p r i v a t e.
[That's just general good life advice, that conversation would get lewd in no time. But then, Iris may enjoy that. No judgement.]
Not my fault. I don't know. This thinking's hard to follow if you're not affected. I'm glad you can't. Met kids here that could. That's the sad thing.
But you got a point. I don't believe in fate. Blew fate up, really. But people being who they are, that factor's hard to change.
p r i v a t e.
( she can't even be pressed. )
Yeah, it is sad. ( and not exactly a surprise to iris. she lost her mother young, and so did barry, his in an unspeakably violent way. iris learned this from the time she was little. life favors no ages. )
Hard, but not impossible, right? Maybe not everyone can change, but some people do.
p r i v a t e.
Mick's accused me of changing. A lot. He wasn't in favour, I guess. I don't know if I really changed.
Priorities shifted.
p r i v a t e.
What would you say your priorities are now? ( he can't steal stuff in wonderland, bless. )
p r i v a t e.
Lisa. Mick. It's after that that things start to shift.
p r i v a t e.
( mick rory can't spend the rest of his wonderland days hallucinating. )
p r i v a t e.
But I can't really make him stop hallucinating. I ain't no doctor, but I'm guessing that's a medical phenomena.
He's getting better. Drinking less. He's resilient. Just getting used to me being gone.
p r i v a t e.
Sometimes we wish we could do that part for them, but we can't. I'm glad he's doing better all the same.
Are you getting used to it? It can't be easy.
p r i v a t e.
I better.
It's not easy, not really what I thought would happen. I got no regrets about dying,
but I believed it'd just be over.
Got to relieve some of the worst parts of my life, so at least it never gets boring here.
I could live without ever being turned into a teenager again.
p r i v a t e.
( truth be told. )
And I believe you. When you say you have no regrets about what happened.
I guess I can't regret it wasn't just over, either. I feel like I didn't get to really meet you until we both ended up in Wonderland.
( and the alternative would've been a crying shame. she once told len everyone'd had a rough child hood and to get over it. at the time, they were on opposite sides. but she understands a bit better now, not that, y'know, she'd ever approve of stealing or otherwise. )
p r i v a t e.
One good thing to come from this place. Not that you'll remember.
