[ After the past few events, Caitlin feels like they all could do with being a little more prepared. Or at least, they could do with knowing who to go to for certain issues. She's already well-aware of the scientific community in the mansion, but there are other fields, right? Others who can lend a hand with... anything.

So she's trying to appear very professional here, in her lab. With her lab coat on. ]

Hi! So, a while back, Claire made a post asking if there were any other medical professionals here. And given the flavor of the last few... [ how does she phrase this ] incidents, I thought it may be useful to get an idea of who can do what around here.

[ She waves a hand, as if to cut off the question. ]

And I'm not asking if you have any special powers or anything. Though if you do, kudos. Even more so if you're comfortable talking about and using yours. [ Cause she is decidedly not. ] Think more along the lines of skills. Talents. Things you have specialized training in. That kind of thing. This way, when things go a particular sort of pear-shaped, we may all have an idea of who can help.

[ And then she smiles nervously. ] Okay. That's all. Thanks!

[ There's a slow nod. Because let's not anger someone who says shooting things is his skill. ]

That has no doubt come in handy lately.

Um... I'm the Super High School Level Nurse. B-Back home, it means... I'm the best of the best when it comes to nursing.

[ Caitlin's expression brightens. ]

That's great! I'm a doctor myself. Have you spent any time at the clinic here?

[nodnod.]

I try to be there as much as possible.

That's good. I know a lot of the people who used to run it have gone home. I should really get out of my lab and down in the clinic more often.

I-It's okay, I've managed...

[ She nods encouragingly. ]

Just... don't hesitate to contact me if you need more help.

I-I wouldn't want to be a bother!

So you don't want to know if we have powers? Because those can be kind of useful in a lot of situations.

Not that I don't want to know. I just know that some people may not feel comfortable disclosing those.

Oooh. [Well, he's kind of stripey and glowy so he figures the cat's out of the bag that he probably does have them.] I guess my powers or skills or whatever aren't that helpful except when you need stuff destroyed.

I'm sure that has a practical application. I'm sure Wonderland isn't above an occasional cave-in or... something.

Yeah. As long as it doesn't make me weaker, like that zombie thing did, I can help out. At full strength, they wouldn't have been a problem.

[He is not exaggerating, though it might seem like it.]

Guns, energy weapons in a pinch, hand t' hand... Can hack a computer if y' put me to it. Mostly good at killin' things without endin' up dead.

[Definitely no special powers, here, but when he puts his mind to it... Dan's capable of quite a lot.]

No official trainin' in anythin', but y' could call it trainin' through experience.

Experience can be one of the best teachers.

[ She pauses a moment too long, her eyes glancing down before continuing. ]

One of the harder ones, too.

... Yeah.

[Dan doesn't look away from her, but his attention turns distant for a moment. Most of what he has learned, he has learned through necessity. To avoid being killed, or to get better at killing.

A lot of his life has revolved around taking the lives of others.]

But.. there y' go. Any a' that sound useful?

[He might have ignored this, but she did ask, and his abilities are.. somewhat unique.]

I am afraid that many of my particular abilities would cause more alarm than they would assuage, but you are welcome to knowledge of them.

If it would make you more comfortable, we can talk privately?

I wouldn't worry too much about my comfort. [He smiles, very faintly.]

But for that of others, it might be best.

I didn't answer your friend. Being that kind of helpful isn't usually within my purview.

Certain recent events have forced me to re-evaluate my position. I may be more inclined towards rendering assistance. But I'd prefer the news didn't get around.

And I can create some very potent poisons, if necessary.

So you're something of a biochemist. In addition to the... stealth and swords and arrows.

[His expression flickers over the strange word. The unfamiliarity is clear.]

A.. 'biochemist'?

Ah. [ She smiles sheepishly, the expression her unspoken "sorry." ]

You're knowledgeable in how different chemicals -- substances, solutions -- affect living creatures.

[ It's a very rudimentary definition. ]

Ah.

[.. Well, then, if that's what she means. He files the new word away for future reference.]

Then, yes, you might say that I am.

I don't think I have much to bring to the table so to speak, especially not as a medical assistant, though I do think having a list of who can do what is a great idea for emergencies.

Considering the year I've had here, a medical assistant brings plenty to the table.

Talents in general or medical ones? I can do this.

[ He might be underselling his abilities ♥ ]

[ It's a neat trick, but she's not sure she'd call that an 'ability.' ]

Does that dexterity translate into other things?

[ His dumb little parlor tricks are abilities :) ]

Sure. General athleticism, acrobatics, lockpicking, and close quarters combat among them.

That would definitely come in handy.

[ Dr. Obvious states the obvious. ]

Can I ask how you came by those skills?

[ Don't break your pencil trying to write it down too fast. ]

Having a little flair for the dramatic helps, but mostly I had to learn to defend myself on the first day of school.

A talking cat taught me the lockpicking, though.

[ At first, Chloe isn't sure she even wants to bother responding. She's still trying to pull herself together after the last event, which has made her feel more useless than ever. She's not sure if responding to this would even help, not that it would make any difference anyway. ]

I'm a homicide detective where I come from. Doubt that'll help much here.

You'd be surprised, really.

[ If not for her medical skills, Caitlin would probably feel a little useless, too. ]

I mean, there's a private investigator's office in the room next to mine.

I think I've heard about it. My skills have come in handy exactly zero times since I got there, though.

[ Not true. She did get to kick some zombie ass before she nearly turned into one. ]

Are you planning to put together an emergency directory or something?

Just means the time hasn't come yet. There was this one time where we had to solve puzzles to survive.

[ Something like that. ]

I figure it wouldn't hurt? Not everyone here has someone from home to count on.
