action;

[ At the town line, as yet another curse threatens to engulf every occupant of Storybrooke, Snow clings to her daughter and grandson, knowing that sending them away is the only way to ensure Henry will be safe. We will always find you feels so hollow to say when they don't know. Will she ever see her daughter or grandson again? There's literally no time to prepare for this and she's forced to step back and watch her daughter go.

Clinging to David as purple haze begins to filter into her peripheral vision, there's no time for crying in case she blurs her vision and misses her daughter driving away. Watching the little yellow car disappear she sees Henry turn and look out of the window and it's then that Snow knows she would do anything, fight any creature and break any curse to get her family back. When the cloud of the curse finally overwhelms them, her eyes close tightly, feeling her husband's arms tighten around her. And then the feeling fades, she feels empty and alone, and her eyes open slowly.

This is not the Enchanted Forest and she is, in fact, alone. Outside of a mansion, Snow isn't sure what to make of where she wound up, but she marches determinedly toward the building. If her family is there, she'll find them. In the meantime, feel free to intercept one very determined woman. ]

video;

[ Snow begins a video message on her device to reveal she's in a tea room, and she smiles pleasantly, if not a bit tightly. But there will be no threatening the general population, isn't that a nice change of pace? ]

So, this is Wonderland. It's a bit less...red hearts and edible drugs than I thought it would be? Not that I'm looking for that, just, well. I'm sure enough of you have read the story to know what I mean.

[ Snow's never taken an illegal substance in her life, thank you very much. ]

The thing is, this isn't where I thought I was going. Magic was taking me somewhere but not here. But I thought, maybe, other people from home wound up redirected as well and this seemed like the fastest way to check. If anyone knows David Nolan or Regina Mills, I would very much appreciate being pointed in their direction.

[ She assumes only people who were swept up in the curse would have been flung somewhere unexpected. But then she figures it can't hurt anything more to ask about her daughter and grandson. ]

Emma? Henry? Are you here? Is anyone from home here?

[ Please let someone be here. Worry pits in her stomach, because if this isn't a place with portals, she has no idea how she'll ever get home, wherever that may be right now. ]

If someone could let me know whether you've seen them or even heard of them, I would be so grateful. My name is Snow, by the way, but I think you can see that on your device? I'm still learning.

[ She ends the video broadcast then, but stares intently at the device, waiting on any word. ]

[NYE_Invitation.jpeg]

[Bright and early the morning of December 8th, crisp, embossed invitations will be delivered to every resident in Wonderland - provided that they have a door to deliver to - and for those who might have missed the physical missive, convenient digital copies were sent just as well.

Hosting some sort of holiday fête these last few years has become something of an anticipated exercise in planning and Wonderland tradition, as it were, for Evelyn. While she has never strictly moderated the dress code she does think it would be nice to see people in their best when ringing in the new year, hence the gentle suggestion in terms of attire, but she hardly expects it to be adhered. Black tie is more aspiration than reality.

The public address also serves as a reminder to her that two months have passed since her last network-wide announcement regarding far less savoury subjects, but Evelyn committed to the project and she isn't going to stop no matter how uncomfortable it makes others and herself.
]

I, ah-

[Predictably she is at her desk, rifling through unconventional work (arrangements for the upcoming party, a series of notes regarding gifts she needs to acquire for other residents, and the like).]

I hope that by now you have all received the invitation I left - if not, I've attached it to this recording - regarding the soirée I intend to hold on New Year's Eve, Wonderland willing, I know things are unpredictable here. But I very much hope to see residents in attendance, because as I'm certain many will agree, we could use some levity.

[Evelyn takes a deep, businesslike breath and exhales shortly, reaching for a pen. An empathetic creature at heart, it is difficult for her to demand information from people when she knows that the information itself is hurtful, traumatic.]

...in considerably less festive news I should like to remind residents that I am still keeping track of lost lives. Please contact me if the last couple of months have been unkind.

[One last reassurance:]

I'll be here.

[ it's been nearly five months since doc holliday arrived in wonderland. and for those five months, he's allowed the mansion at large to believe he is "henry mckey," a dentist-slash-marshal from the twenty-first century, whose overtly southern upbringing explains away behaviors and mannerisms that otherwise do not line up with the times. he's done a remarkable job of concealing his true identity, but all good things must come to an end. unfortunately for him, someone's poorly executed hacking attempt is about to blow the lid clear off that masquerade.

Just, she's not always the best at remembering to check her phone, y'know? So... If you happen to run across her… Please… Tell me right away. Thanks!

The two of them look at the camera with serious expressions, and when they begin to speak, their tone is solemn.]

[Replies to this are CLOSED, please see OOC note at the bottom of the post!]

In the wake of our most recent event and regarding the fate of those who lose their fifth life, I would like to propose a new series of data collection on mansion residents. It is my opinion that the instatement of a “death watch” - that is, an archival record of extant resident deaths that have occurred - should be created and maintained, and would serve as a valuable resource for the protection of those who are at risk.

[This is the difficult part: persuading people to share this sort of thing about themselves, knowing what it does to others and how it can hurt, is no easy task. She believed as much when she first spoke with Shepard on the subject, and believes the same now. Evelyn herself does not like to offer personal information unless asked, but knows the burden of carrying that suffering on one's own and how easily an environment can fall to fear.]

I understand that this is very private, very personal information. I understand it is traumatic, and not something that many people want to share. Therefore it is incumbent upon me to stress the critical severity of this situation, and assure you that you are not alone.

I myself have lost four lives here.

In disclosing as much, I hope that others can be swayed to believe in the efficacy of this database, and would urge residents to volunteer their respective death tolls to build the record. Residents who submit information to the watch on their numbers may do so to me privately, if there is concern about embarrassment or persecution from peers.

[It is a valid concern, and one which she has agonised over.]

Commander Shepard’s confirmation from the Queen of Hearts that those who are remade after their last demise are conscripted as spies is extremely troubling. Regardless of the veracity of the information given its source, we as unwilling residents do not have the luxury of allowing for that liability. For those concerned about their safety, I will be actively working with the commander, who is well-equipped to establish and manage security procedures once the record has been transcribed and analysed. This is a living document, and is expected to require additions over time.

I am aware that this is a drastic measure, but a measure worth taking. Please feel free to direct all responses and queries to myself and Commander Shepard.

[OOC NOTE: I realize this is a hot button issue as has generated a lot of replies, which is great! In order to keep myself sane, I'm going to have to cut it off here and request that no one else respond in this post. Messaging Evelyn's inbox is cool if you want to drop a line there instead, but replies will be slower there.

Anyone who did not get to respond in here before the cut-off, I'd really like you to at least drop a comment HERE if you believe your character would still share their information with her. Thank you for understanding!

Usually, he stays up in bed at night and reads through the posts (when his mom doesn't notice), but hardly ever responds to what everyone is saying. Say you know an adult. Two adults. One is close to you and the other isn't. The second adult is their friend.

[Yes, that's good enough.]

The second adult, the one you're not as close to, is always around. Treats the adult you are close to differently. And the first adult kissed the second on the cheek once.

My name is Robin and I’m going to cut to the point. I’m looking for information. Namely on all of you, but we'll start with just two questions today. Mostly to check both your own mental well being and conditions.

Who here has pertinent information as to our captors identities and whereabouts?

Have any among you started to feel stirrings of affection for them?

If your answer is yes to the second than there is no helping you and you should feel ashamed. The rest, I will have more questions for after I've done more recon.

[ After the past few events, Caitlin feels like they all could do with being a little more prepared. Or at least, they could do with knowing who to go to for certain issues. She's already well-aware of the scientific community in the mansion, but there are other fields, right? Others who can lend a hand with... anything.

So she's trying to appear very professional here, in her lab. With her lab coat on.
]

Hi! So, a while back, Claire made a post asking if there were any other medical professionals here. And given the flavor of the last few... [ how does she phrase this ] incidents, I thought it may be useful to get an idea of who can do what around here.

[ She waves a hand, as if to cut off the question. ]

And I'm not asking if you have any special powers or anything. Though if you do, kudos. Even more so if you're comfortable talking about and using yours. [ Cause she is decidedly not. ] Think more along the lines of skills. Talents. Things you have specialized training in. That kind of thing. This way, when things go a particular sort of pear-shaped, we may all have an idea of who can help.

The name's Henry, and I hail from a small town called Purgatory. It was 2017, last I checked, but I don't suppose dates mean much in a "wondrous" place such as this.

[ yeah, the alice in wonderland references are completely lost on a man who missed out on not only the book's publishing, but all the disney adaptations that followed it. ]

You wouldn't happen to know if things you were... say, tethered to in your previous, less than wonderful life are still that way in this one, would you? I'm also interested in hearing what one does in Wonderland, other than wait for one of these so-called "events" to crop up, of course. Now that I've got that out of the way I have a question -- are the people here selected randomly? I mean, they could have taken anyone in the world, I can't see why they would take me.

I'm sorry if you've heard that one before, I tried to be original and not do the whole okay who is doing this, why am I here, how do I get home, I demand answers spiel. That has to get hella boring after a while.

[there's a pause and then.]

If you have any answers to those questions, however, I wouldn't say no to them. Even better, come down to...I think it was marked Damon's Bar? Anyway, come share a round of shots, fill me in on anything I need to know, it's sad to drink alone, especially when you've just been kidnapped.

[ It's late and, rather than lay awake in bed, Caitlin's curled up in a tearoom and messing with her device. The questions she pose aren't pressing, not really, just idle curiosity finally given words. ]

I think it's amazing how someone can develop feelings for someone else here, especially if you both come from different worlds. Wouldn't you be worried that Wonderland would suddenly decide to send you home the moment you found actually happiness? Or plagued by the fear that the person you've fallen for isn't who they actually are? Just who they present themselves to be here.

[ She knows something of that, herself. The danger of falling in love with the idea instead of the actual person. ]

If you found yourself in that situation, would you hold back, keep your feelings to yourself? Or would you jump without thinking twice?

Every year, I wish spring would just go ahead and really spring already. [She kicks in frustration at a pile of dirty slush, sending up a wet spray toward the garden flowerbeds.]

I guess it happens just like in the book, right? The card soldiers come and paint the roses red? But then what about all the other flowers?

They come up too, sooner or later... but it's kind of funny, I've never seen anybody planting them. [She wonders aloud thoughtfully, perhaps just longing for someone-anyone to talk to. Dustin's gone away, and she's restless as heck!] My dad writes for gardening catalogs and stuff, so I know how it's supposed to go. You'd put the bulbs down in the fall, and after the last snow melts, they all start to pop up. Crocuses, then daffodils, then tulips...

[She tilts the camera up wistfully, panning over the early-spring grounds. It looks like a really excellent season for mud pies, out here.]

My parents promised we'd plant something soon, at the new house, but I could be waiting around here for that to happen forever.

So what do you think? I want to start a part of the gardens that's just for me. With snapdragons and lupines and lots of pretty, colorful stuff. It's probably already too late to get started, but without a good project to start on, I think I might go a little nuts waiting for the weather to turn nice.

You could be happy here. Having anything you desire, or being given a second chance. You could be happy, or at least not faulted for wanting to believe the dream. Dreams can be powerful, or quickly become a nightmare.

( Three guesses as to what Leliana's considering and the first two are probably correct. She knows that this is not in fact the Fade but it's the closest base of reference that she has -- somewhere that isn't quite real, where magic is more powerful than you would believe, dreams, desires. Demons. There is some influence here, and something else -- what else would want them captive? )

It would be more unsettling if we are simply left to our happiness. They take memories, feeding from us. Is that power only to feed what they do or is there more to it? What else will come, even if some have been waiting for so long?

( Perhaps some of the memories were not powerful enough, only giving a fraction of the power another memory did. Was it happiness or sadness, perhaps fear or anger? )

Would you give up something to keep this happiness going, or does fear of what may come stop that?

There's some stammering at the start of the message, but as he collects himself enough to share information, his cadence relaxes and grows more confident. This isn't about him right now. It's about everyone else.]

Pardon me -- if I could have everyone's attention for a moment? I'm sure we've all gotten a glimpse of what's gone on. I've some reason to believe that this might be a particular incident related to -- well -- that's not important. But I'd like to urge everyone to be mindful of the level of air presently available to you. As long as the number of available rooms continues to be infinite, it ought to be possible to make it through without incident as long as we stay in motion as necessary, provided that the doors continue to resist the rules of water pressure upon opening. I've done some calculations using what we know of the average unclaimed room. I believe that humans ought to be able to sustain themselves without incident for about eight hours without incident, though this is most likely variable for those of you with alternative physiologies. With that in mind, we may wish to consider that longterm planning might be an element to our survival. We may have to make efforts to organize our activities and movements to ensure we can all stay prepared for the week ahead of us.

[He pauses to take a breath, squeezing his fingers into his palm before continuing.]

Please be aware that since the oxygen-to-square-footage ratio provided is a rough estimate that may be impacted by people collecting together in groups, vigilance will also be important when it comes to recognizing the early signs of oxygen deprivation. If you notice an increase in heart rate or shortness of breath, please consider setting yourself into motion sooner rather than later. The same applies if you're with others and notice dilation of the pupils, or that they've started to display visible motor impairment.

I also hope that we can utilize the network to communicate distress when needed. I'll be in touch with a few of you soon with regards to some plans for relief and rescue.

has anyone ever attempted to shut down travel by dimensional tear or portal or what might be referred to as some meta-physical means within wonderland or without it?

degree of success is unimportant-- i'm looking for anything pertaining to travel into wonderland, out of it, within it, to the mirror side, etc.

data is good, personal accounts are better. if you've gone to the mirror side (during a time where not everyone was invited over en masse) and are willing to offer information about your experience, that could be helpful as well.

Baby it's cold outside (Action for Leonard Snart) )

[Well. Now that Rip has had an introduction provided by Mr. Snart paired with the opportunity to change into dry clothes, he decides to get straight to business. Never mind that he's been assured that time does not move within this realm, that somehow this fictional-based fantasy world is even more separated from time than the Vanishing Point. Despite that safety net (which he has not yet bought into, for the record), Rip possesses no desire to linger within these walls. Luckily the outdated technology provided for communication is simple enough to figure out. He turns on the video feed, making little attempt to put on a pleasant face—but he does have a British accent, so his voice sounds nice?]

Yes, hello there. My name is Rip Hunter, a just newly arrived prisoner of this—this sadly real version of seventies-era drug-induced hallucination.

[He might be a little frustrated here.]

I've been given an overview the way this dimension functions from one of my comrades here, most relevantly the supposed fact that escape is impossible. I would like to confirm this with the population at large.

[More to the point, he wants to know who is working to defy that rule. Raymond can't have been the only scientific mind brought to this world. Whatever efforts are being made, Rip wants in. He simply won’t say as much over the network, in case it is being monitored. Just as he remains certain that someone is trying to escape, he is equally sure someone is responsible for their imprisonment, even if their identity remains yet unknown.

Of course, wisdom dictates he be prepared for anything, and he pauses but a moment before continuing.]

I suppose I should also ask about some of the other things I’ve been told. While I have no reason to disbelieve those present from my own universe [liars and thieves though two of them may be], some of the things they described go well beyond the limits of what should be possible—and trust me when I say that given my own background, that is a definite point of concern.

Has there been any data collected on these so-called “events?” Any success in discovering how this world and the people within it are altered, seemingly at random?

[Anything at all that might show a successful resistance to all Rip has been told—ah, but he stops himself before that much spills out. Probably better not to piss off the general population on his first broadcast. He’s already got a disgruntled crew to manage, after all.]

That should suffice for now. Thank you all, for both your time and your cooperation.

[Now please, give Rip the answers he wants to hear.

With that done, Rip makes a few adjustments to the broadcast settings. The feed has ended for the population at large, but two particular residents get their own special message.]

With those holiday greetings and gay happy meetings (Video for Ray Palmer and Mick Rory) )

[With that, he ends the transmission, though his wait won't be idle. He has a sprawling landscape to explore now that he's no longer soaked from his earlier arrival. [There's a low, dangerous growl of disapproval and the expression on Mick's face is not a pretty one. It's somewhat reminiscent of an angry bull. It didn't inspire much good will.

Though this is a definite improvement over the last place. For one, there's food. For another, he gets a free smart phone to yell at people over and voice his anger. Not bad. Though he did kind of think they went a little overboard with the white. What was with all the decorations anyway? This better not be like some low rent Christmas Town cause honestly, that sounded a lot like hell.]

You got five minutes to convince me not to torch this place to the ground cause I ain't in the mood to play nice right now. Somebody start talking. [The words come out as an angry snarl, teeth barred. He's not a happy bunny.]

[ There's a small debate over if he should use video or text for his first post to the network. The network itself seems to be easy enough to use, but the fact is that Hunter doesn't know who is in this place. If something can take him from his world, it could take others too. Nothing was too farfetched. Well, this new place was, but that's a whole different can of worms to be opening. So Hunter simply opts for text, wondering who - if anyone - will reply to it.]

Nice of this place to give us a way to communicate with everyone here. Would be nice if it came with some kind of a list of who's here so I know I'm not shouting into the void. I haven't seen a device like this in a while, I wonder where they even come from?

Right, priorities. I get the feeling asking for the exit is going to be too much to ask. It's weird being dragged to a place like this, got to admit it doesn't quite sit well with me. So what's the deal here? I think I've missed that memo, it probably got lost in the hedge maze outside as I climbed my way out of it. Any info you guys might want to share will be useful, and I promise I don't bite.

Guys...

[ Guess who's on the network and newly arrived to Wonderland? This kid, who isn't looking so good. He's in the dining room of the mansion, and just his head is visible--he's leaning as far back as the chair will let him, and he squints at the network as if personally offended by each and every person on there that isn't where he is now. When he speaks, it's easy to tell he has a bit of a lisp and is missing his front teeth. He's also going to be sick, from the looks of it. For someone who's brand new he's remarkably calm--it'll all hit him later. ]

The dining room can get you anything you want. Anything. You just gotta say it. [ Which isn't news to people but it's an absolute marvel for him. He groans, pained, and sinks lower into his chair.]

Oof, I--I think I overdid it.

[ And with a thwunk, he falls. There's another groan, an audible 'shit!' and the visual being broadcast to Wonderland is no longer of Dustin, but of an incredibly full table with nothing but junk food--including, but not limited to: fruit roll ups, a plethora of Hostess cakes, Poptarts, Bugles, and even something called burple. The next phrase comes from the floor, a small hand reaching up to start to hoist himself back up and onto the chair. ]

I don't feel good.
