[Iiiit's Peridot! ...It's a very official looking Peridot, too. Standing straight in front of her communicator with her shared room with Lapis (that looks a little bit like a barn) in the background.

She clears her throat, her expression calm, yet serious.]

I have a very important question for you all. One I hope I can get an adequate answer for.

[She presses her palms together and points her fingers towards the camera. The "booooi" fingers if you will.]

As I understand it, if someone leaves Wonderland for good, their things vanish. So what if their things are also your things?

[She seems to be doing her best to keep her cool. It's kind of working.] Th.. Thank you.

Well, other than finding any of their stuff, I have no idea how you can tell if someone's gone for good or not. You've just got to wait the week.

Hnnnngh. [SHE DOES NOT ACCEPT THIS.] I just... don't want to be alone again.

[Well, he can empathize with that feeling.]

What about Pearl?

[Gosh Jean, so speciesist, assuming all Gems know each other...]

[slapfight]

[and yet they totally do.

and this distracts her from her misery with a rant. good job, Jean.]

Pearl is... hnnngh... complicated. And there's still Steven who will always be there for me, no matter what, but he's not my roommate. There is a very specific bond between roommates that cannot be challenged. It's a key component in the hierarchy of relationships in Camp Pining Hearts!

[angewiesen]

So Lapis is some kind of comrade to you. [Jean understands how bunkmates work.] Makes sense. Who's Steven?

[That doesn't sound like a gem name.]

[slapfight]

She's my best friend?

[She doesn't know what comrade means.] Oh! Steven is a gem/human hybrid. He's my other best friend, but a different sort of best friend from Lapis.

[Her relationship tree is very thorough...]

[angewiesen]

Yeah, it's like that. [Jean has never used the term "best friend" in his life and he isn't about to start now.] So he's half human half gem? How's that possible?

[slapfight]

I have no idea, and I have no interest in learning. It sounds horrible and unnatural.

But he seems to have a story prepared if you ask him.

[angewiesen]

That's a weird thing to say about your best friend. But I guess I'll ask him if I ever see him around.

[slapfight]

Nothing about being a best friend says that I can't find his hybridization unpleasant!

[angewiesen]

I guess who can say whatever you want, but he must be a patient guy if he can take an insult like that to the face.

[slapfight]

Steven understands that it comes from a place of logic and reason, though I have been told that hard facts stated so overtly can be seen as... rude.

[angewiesen]

Yeah, usually. Sometimes you have to keep your mouth shut, even if you're telling the truth...

You're a little different from Lapis and Pearl.

[slapfight]

That's because I'm a Peridot. We're completely different gems in both classification, rank, and skillsets.

[angewiesen]

Wait... Okay, so I got the part where each Gem is made for a specific purpose-- but that means there's more than one Peridot? More than one you?

[slapfight]

Well, not the same cut and facet as me obviously, but essentially yes.

[angewiesen]

So do they look like you? Act like you? Wouldn't that cause... I dunno, some kind of existential crisis?

[slapfight]

I don't understand.

[She knows what an existential crisis is, but why would she have them about that? That's... normal.]

[angewiesen]

Because there are basically other copies of you just running around, doing their own thing, right where you can see them? Doesn't that make you feel... I dunno, replaceable?

Erm. Well, that's on Homeworld, and I don't live there anymore since I defected to Earth. There, I'm the only Peridot so it's a moot point. But even if that weren't the case, I'm far superior to those other Peridots. I have metal powers and I'm smarter than they are.

[angewiesen]

Are you always this sure of yourself?

[slapfight]

Absolutely!

[She's not a good liar, but she is aces at lying to herself.]

You'll probably grow out of it someday. Most people can't keep up that kind of confidence forever.

[slapfight]

I'm over several centuries old. I don't require further growth.

And I don't appreciate the lack of confidence in my ability to be confident forever.
