Our hostess has a talent for keeping us entertained.
Personally, I've always been fond of Jubjub birds. Sweet, flighty creatures that wouldn't dare harm a soul.
So glad we had a chance encounter with one, of course.
I do hope she keeps us on our toes. The last thing anyone needs is to get comfortable.

[What are social skills that don't involve being completely sarcastic? Who knows.]

private message to James Potter:

We discussed my hat. Can you get one to work now?
pottershotter: (You must be mistaken)

[James slowly nods, suddenly realizing that these probably aren't as similar as he had once assumed.]

It's worth trying, at least! I don't think a Portkey's ever been used to go between worlds, but I don't see why it couldn't. I'll do what I can with it.

[This might suggest that James is going to take it somewhere and work on it, but that is not what happens here. Instead he pulls out his wand and focuses. Okay, so he's never cast this spell before. And he doesn't know exactly where Jefferson's world is relative to Wonderland, but how big of a problem could that really be? So, instead, he focuses his thoughts on bringing Jefferson to his daughter, as soon as possible. Again, he doesn't know where his daughter is, but it might be enough. Hopefully.

He holds the hat in front of him, and points his wand at it.

Portus!

[There's a flash of blue light, and then the hat itself glows blue for a moment. Eventually though, the blueness settles into the hat and it looks exactly as it did before the spell was cast.]

Mostly. We can do nonverbal magic, and wandless magic, but it's a lot harder to do it that way. The words and wands sort of focus it, so you have to have incredible concentration to do magic without them.

[James looks down at the hat, and turns it over. It still looks like the same hat.]

Well. Let's find out. Catch!

[And he gives the hat a gentle toss back to Jefferson. As soon as Jefferson touches the hat, one of three things will happen. Best case scenario, he'll be transported home to Grace - but, of course, that won't happen. That leaves two options - either it will do absolutely nothing, or it will poof him to an entirely random location in Wonderland, since it doesn't have enough direction or power to actually leave. Have fun with all of that uncertainty coming at you, Jefferson.]
