[ figuring out how to use the device isn't the hard part, no, it's swallowing the fact that either purgatory changed on him in what could only be described as seriously trippy as shit way, or he's in yet another new dimension. so have dean, wonderland, covered in dirt and grime from head to toe. it doesn't take squinting to notice the obvious splashes of blood either, though all of it's dried as if he hasn't changed his clothes in a while...
in his hand is a massive weapon; axe-like in shape, with a blade made of something unrecognizable but decidedly dangerous. ]
Alright, listen up. This is how it's gonna go; whoever thought this-- [ he gestures vaguely around with the tip of his weapon. ] -- was a great idea? Hand up now. You and I are gonna have a couple words, and how pretty they end up bein' depends entirely on you. [ a threat is laced in every single word. ]
Or I can always just start demandin' answers-- [ you know the violent way. purgatory kinda rubs off on you after a while. ] -- 'cause you know what? I don't have time for this. Not today. [ not when one minute benny had been going on about something or another and now the vampire isn't anywhere to be seen and his search for cas is interrupted.
which leads him to adding, after a pause; ]
Cas, if you're here for some messed up reason, lem'me know. Same for you, Benny.
[ end feed. ]

[ end feed. ]
action;
A lot. [ There's another shrug; he isn't going to tell what what's happened, not if he can help it. ] If you just got yanked from Purgatory, that means you're missing about a year and a half of memories. More or less.
[ Hard to swallow, maybe, but true. ]
And Benny isn't here. Cas is.
action;
it's only then that he speaks again, going for nonchalance. ]
S'quite a bit to be missing. You sayin' I got outta that circus?
[ sure, after he'd met benny, getting out had been the plan... but before that, they'd had to find cas, so it had still been some ways off. ]
action;
What, Purgatory? Yeah. Dropped one circus to move on to another.
[ Their usual gig. Something worse than that, even. And he knows, this early on, that he isn't going to tell Dean about the trials. About Kevin. About Gadreel. ]
I can fill you in, if it helps.
action;
You better.
[ he has enough amnesia to deal with right now, last thing he needs is to get it from sam too when it concerns their home.
dean steps back then, the axe falling to his side. again, he hesitates when he looks at sam, not sure what to do, what to say. to believe or not? it could cost him, but he's out of options here without the right supplies. ]
I'm guessin' a lot's gonna happen.
action;
[ He almost cracks a smile and doesn't, not now. He's glad to see his brother, of course, but worried about what this'll bring. Between hiding things from Dean (he knows, knows it's a terrible idea, can't bring himself to resign to saying it) and the existence of so many of their enemies in Wonderland--
It isn't good. Won't end well. He knows it, like one of his old visions. ]
You should probably shower, settle in. [ Talk to the dozens of people beeping in to Dean's initial call, happy he's back, happy to taunt him, depending. ] Then we can talk.
action;
not with how intense everything in purgatory had been. so he looks at him, just for a fleeting second, and then huffs. ]
I don't plan on settling in. If there's something I need to know, I wanna know it now.
[ the last thing he needs is more great surprises down the road. ]
action;
Fine. Can we at least get out of the open? There're a handful of people here that neither of us want to run into right now.
action;
[ it comes off a little rough, but there's almost something amused about it. purgatory will do that to you, leave you a smelly thing since showers had been kinda far and few.
but he nods eventually at the suggestion, amusement draining away. ]
Alright. [ fine. ] Is one of those people Ruby?
[ l: ]
action;
Yeah. And Crowley, Meg, Michael-- Hell, even Lilith. It's the Greatest Hits of all the people who want to kill us.
[ And two of whom have already. Whoops. ]
Don't do that, Dean. I learned my lesson with Ruby. Alright?
action;
A real party then.
[ yay. ]
You sure 'bout that? She has a real tongue on her, and you know that.
[ and not the fun kind of tongue either. ]
action;
Yeah. I'm sure. Just drop it.
[ His expression suggests it, too; he isn't about to talk about this, about her. About the possibility of him getting the wool pulled over his head again. ]
action;
and as for ruby... dean looks like he wants to say something more, really does, but fine.
he goes for something else. ]
So, uh, heard this place kinda grows fond of some people. [ the longest time he's heard of someone being here? three years. that's something. ] ...How long've you been here?
action;
[ They all had, apparently. Memories fluctuating, disappearing, reappearing. ]
I know it's hard to believe right now, but we've all got a pretty good thing going on here. [ He smiles faintly, and then offers a shrug. ] You organized a whole resistance, made more friends than you've probably had in your life-- I mean, we had this whole conversation last Thanksgiving about how this is almost more of a home than we've ever had.
[ Even with the enemies and near-constant danger. ]
action;
Are you sayin' you don't wanna leave this place?
[ actually, really failing at not looking at sam like he's hit his head. the disbelief mixes with the already present mistrust, leaving dean all the less eager to be stuck in this new world. ]
action;
[ Between them, even. If Dean knew half of what had happened... ]
action;
So how about you tell me then, huh? The whole thing-- every little gritty detail. What's going on back there?
[ and don't you dare leave anything out. ]
action;
... Fine. [ Where does he even start? He takes a moment to think, to try and place himself back a few years. When he begins to talk, Sam leaves out a number of things, like Amelia, and then moves through all the events of the next year that Dean would have, including the Trials. He doe,s though, stop short of the end of the story. ]
Last trial was to turn a demon human again, and we went with Crowley. Started working on that one, you nearly broke down the door with the news that Metatron's a liar--no surprises there--and that's all I've got.
[ Which isn't true, considering that his own memories extend so far past that. Crowley is about the only one who knows, he thinks, and so it shouldn't be a problem. Sam just doesn't want to talk about Gadreel. ]
Alright?
action;
[ don't freaking alright him, dude. not after that story, not after everything that-- was just said! dean looks stunned, though frustration still rolls off him in waves as he blinks at sam, almost angry with everything that's been told him. so much will still happen, so much bad that it leaves sam almost entirely fucked because they thought they could seal the gates of hell. and another angel screwing shit up on top of it all?
great. real great. ]
Dude, there's nothing alright about this-- about any of it.
[ not a goddamn single thing. and he fucking swears that metatron asshole shows up, he's getting it. ]
action;
[ And worse. He draws a deep breath, having been prepared for this reaction. ]
But there's nothing we can do about it here, and when you get dropped back home, you won't remember we even talked about it. There's no point worrying. We've got a lot of people here that we got killed who're alive, and-- isn't that more important?
[ It is. The answer is that it is more important. ]
action;
Yeah, but this could be a trap-- a trick, Sam. I don't know, but it's not right, it's not-- [ normal, there's something off. ]
I just... What about home? I know it's shit, you told me as much and trust me, I get it. But that doesn't mean... Don't you care about it at all anymore? You gonna just say screw it to that and hakuna matata your days away here?
action;
[ And his wearied expression backs that assertion up. ]
Yeah, I care about that. [ ... ] There isn't anything we can do, Dean. Once we get zapped back home, we don't remember this place. And we can't change what happens there when we're here. I'm not trying to sound depressing, here, this is just how it is.
action;
Since when is there nothing we can do, dude? We-- [ and it's odd, hearing himself be the one to say this for once. ] -- always find a way, in the end. Even if it takes a while.
But that ain't gonna work if you're.. like this. [ he throws a hand at sam, at how he is. ]
action;
[ Sam clenches his jaw, brow pinched. ]
I just don't want you to get hurt trying to get out of here if there's no way, alright?
action;
You really can't except me to just sit around with my thumb up my ass, nodding and smiling like this is all fine.
action;
[ There. He said it. ]
