video;
[The feed is initially dark and grainy, showing not a whole lot of anything, though there is sound. Specifically, the sound of someone taking a few steps, tripping, and falling over with a surprised sound that's not quite dignified.]
Ow...
[As the unfortunate new comer starts to right himself, his hand jostles against the device and closes around it automatically. The camera angle changes as the device is turned over, inspected, and then a very surprised and confused face appears on the feed.
Kaneki is pretty average looking, except for the eye patch. Right now, he's a bit scuffed, dusty, and what little can be seen in the faint light from the screen shows he's in the caves. He fumbles the device for a moment before he manages to hold it steady.]
Er... I think I'm in a hole...somehow. I don't know if there's anyone around or if I have reception at all but if there is someone...
[He offers a smile that's equal parts embarrassed, apologetic, and nervous, rubbing the back of his head with his free hand. Actually, maybe he's more nervous than the other two.]
I could use a hand, if there is.

[action]
Okay, maybe sharing he's a ghoul is still a really bad idea.]
Th-that sounds pretty bad...
[action]
[Looking shaken for a moment he brushes it off]
But it's okay! What is your home like?
[action]
[Kaneki tilts his head, glancing to the side as he tries to think of how to describe it.]
I guess it's pretty modern, comparatively. We have devices like the ones we were using earlier, and other advanced technologies.
[action]
[There was a look of excitement from him.]
wow... so you are probably really good at this all. I honestly have no clue. What kind of hobbies do you have?
[action]
[action]
[action]
[action]
[action]
In the past it was like that in my world. Now in most countries, children have to get some kind of minimum education.
[That's an oversimplification and an over-generalization, but if their worlds are that different, that's probably fine.]
[action]
[He just chuckles to himself.]
I can read and all of that but a lot are more focused on the military.
[action]
[Like it used to make sense to Kaneki that humans would exterminate ghouls. Ugh. That does beg the question, though...]
What are the things that are attacking you? Where'd they come from?
[action]
[Marco just smiles before it vanishes for a moment and he looks serious.]
They are...humanoid but giant. We aren't sure where they came from at all...just that we hide from them. They will eat people as soon as they have their fill they throw them up...and eat more.
[It was really pointless killing for no reason.]
[action]
You said you're in the military? Is that what you fight against?
[action]
Hm? Yes! I am trained to fight them. They can regenerate and the only way to kill them is the slice the back of their neck.
[action]
[action]
Aha, sorry for that kind of subject. I beat you guys don't have to worry about titans or things like that.
[action]
[Kaneki offered a smile that was a bit nervous around the edges. He didn't have much of a poker face.]
I'm sure every world has its challenges. Yours though.... It's pretty bad, but it sounds like everyone is doing their best to survive and fix the situation. That has to be a good thing.
Re: [action]
[The nervousness makes him rest a hand on Kaneki's shoulder as he offers a kind smile.]
Of course. We do...it's hard but it's worth it to live. I wish I could see your world.
[action]
I don't know if you'd like it much. It can be really loud and confusing. But it's not so bad, in most ways.
[He wonders if he could float a test balloon here--just mention the existence of ghouls and see how Marco responds. He wouldn't have to reveal that he was one.]
[action]
Aha, still it sounds awesome. ...oh? In what ways is it bad?
[There is a spike of curiosity in his eyes as he waits for an answer.]
[action]
There's a species called ghouls. They look and act like humans, but they can only survive by eating humans.
[He watches Marco, trying to keep his expression neutral and hid any expectancy.]
[action]
...that's... [He looks shocked but then tries to think about this realistically.] So...there is no way they can survive on human food?
[It's like titans...but if they die without it then it's different at the same time...]
[action]
It damages their bodies if they try, and it tastes terrible to them anyway.
I mean, that's what I've heard. [Smooth save, Kaneki.]
Some of them don't have any problem killing a lot of people and eating as much as they want. Some of them really just want to live normal lives, though, as much as they can.
[Even as he's speaking, he realizes that he's probably exhibiting a little too much knowledge on the subject.]
[action]
Oh...so they have to do it to even live?
[Marco has to really think about this for a moment.]
Normal lives? So they just want to live like humans do then?
It sounds a lot more complicated than our world...
[action]
[Kaneki's smile is vague. He looks around the area where they're loitering. That's enough of that test balloon.]
Is this place hard to navigate?
