[ It’s not every day that the people of Wonderland get good news, and boy has Dean gotten some— at least according to his brother. It’s why when the feed clicks on, the view is of both brothers leaving the Mansion, their destination becoming clear within the next few seconds. Parked just outside sits a car, black surface shining and spotless and perfect.

And Dean? Dean looks beyond excited, breaking away from his brother with a few quick steps as he approaches the newly arrived vehicle. Like a kid in a candy store, he huffs a laugh as he approaches it, hand reaching out to touch the Impala the moment he’s close enough, an undeniable gasp leaving him as he does. ]

Baby—

[ Anything and anyone else seems to be forgotten after that, Dean’s focus entirely on the car. He all but embraces it, whispering —Sorry I left you, I’m back now, you’re so beautiful, I’ll never let anyone hurt or touch you again — things to what’s arguably a third Winchester by every standard except blood.

The reason it's all being recorded in the first place is due to Sam who, though the network can't see his face, has the whole scene playing out via his camera. The younger Winchester, who'd spotted the car earlier, just scoffs in honest disbelief. ]

Told you. I wouldn't've believed it, but... yeah. Guess she left it behind.

[ "For us" goes unspoken after the exceptionally awkward story that she'd elected to share with everyone. It's a backwards kind of bittersweet now that she'd gone, gifting them their literal mobile home. ]

Just wanted you to see it. I'll give you two a room.

[ With a little laugh, he turns away as if to head back inside. However, the video from the device switches to another recorded feed, one from a camera that Sam had stuck within the car before bringing his brother out. Apparently edited for content, a song queues up in the background to overlay the scene.

And what a scene it is. Anyone who actually decides it’s a good idea to keep watching will be subjected to more of, well, what’s already been going on. Dean’s all but kissing the car, rounding around the back until he’s at the driver’s side, then slipping in to sit behind the wheel. Hands feel down the steering wheel, then the side compartment — his cassettes, yes — and every inch of the car. All with Dean looking as if he’s been reunited with a long lost friend, words of affection still whispered to the car in a hushed tone.

Shh, this is a private moment. ]

[Light though it may be coming from Dean, it does soften something in Castiel's expression. Maybe he isn't the best at keeping up rounds of banter and teasing, because soon enough it always develops into something a little more serious.

It's not as if Dean hasn't said similar things in the past, but in light of everything that Castiel's done, all the mistakes that he's made even here in Wonderland (though events had been to blame in most cases), it's good to hear it.

To know that when all is said and done, some things never change.]

I think maybe we can arrange something, then. I make the roads, I get to ride shotgun. It seems fair.

[He nods firmly, although in reality he'll also be happy to let Dean and Sam enjoy some rides of their own.]

[ dean just snorts. jesus. ]

Sure does, Huggy Bear. Those roads pop up and I'll promise the seat'll have your name on it and everything.

[ he's fairly sure cas will be bored within the first hour of their road tripping, but that'll just have to be the angel's problem. dean's getting what he wants, so he couldn't really be happier. ]

[It's true that Castiel doesn't have much of an attention span for sitting around in the car even when they're actively going somewhere. Here in Wonderland, the driving would be even more pointless.

Still, he'll make an effort, as he knows it's important to Dean. He deserves something nice after the mess with the jabberwocky.]

I'll contact you as soon as the roads are in place, then.

[It may take some experimenting. It's not something Castiel's ever done before, and he has to adhere to Wonderland's magic, but it should be possible...]

[ woah, wait-- ]

You sayin' I can't come check out the road building? Come on, Cas, I'm sure it'll be a popcorn worthy thing.

[ he might get a laugh out of it. no, he'll definitely get a laugh out of it, that much he can pretty much bet. and either way, as much as he might be using cas to make roads for his baby, he can't just leave it all to the angel. that doesn't seem right either. ]

[It's not a request that Castiel expected. Somehow, Dean still manages to find a way to surprise him. His head tilts to the side.]

Are you that interested to see the process?

[It's no doubt going to take some trial and error, which could quickly become tedious. But if Dean's that curious, then Castiel's not about to say no.]

I've seen plenty of neon vests and big, old paving machines get the job done, but never an angel.

[ so hey, new experience and all. ]

And someone has to make sure it goes right, and you don't end up putting a road through the mansion or something. [ except not really, dean just wants to watch. ]

[Castiel exhales a breath in a huff. He's almost certain that Dean's only saying that to provoke him, that he's well aware that Castiel wouldn't botch the task that badly.

The point here is that for one reason or another, Dean's interested in watching, and it may be as simple as wanting to offer some company. There's really no reason to refuse.

So after a pause, Castiel does nod.] If you insist.

I do. [ he wants to see the end results and however cas will go about it-- and no, he's not entirely excusing the possibility of cas fucking it all up. sorry. ]

Lem'me know when you're gonna roll up your sleeves.

[Now it's not merely a favor, but also about proving himself, even though he's done that countless times already. With a nod, Castiel ends the call.]
