Couple years ago we had someone go on a killing spree around Valentine's Day here.
Long gone now, but people haven't forgotten.

A number of them have left Wonderland, but not all.
Evelyn O'Connell. Seta Souji. Sam Winchester and Jo Harvelle were both injured but survived.
I can almost guarantee none of them will want to talk about it.

what actually happened

The guy in question was mentally ill. Severely.
He was convinced the killer was someone from his own world, someone he'd encountered before.
Even he didn't realize he was the one doing it until it was too late. Split personality.
Went around attacking people in miner's gear, using a pickaxe.

[There's a long pause before Alex responds. That sounds a little too horribly familiar, minus the mining gear bit.

The killer was someone from his own world.

What set it off? was it just the specific date?

I got him to talk to me afterwards.
There was an incident back home, ten years back.
A massacre during a party on Valentine's Day. Same method.
This guy survived that attack, but it changed him.

Went home. About a year and a half ago now.
Don't think he survived whatever was waiting for him.

well today's been pretty quiet so far.

It was a walk in the park compared to some of what we've seen.

The part that isn't a memory-devouring, potentially world-ending Jabberwock.
I did say it was comparative.

plus this place already chomps down memories like it's a competitive sport

It was worse than the usual. Kind of a years-in-the-making kind of thing.
Couple years back we got a look at our future if the Jabberwock wasn't stopped. Got nasty.
Once you've been here for awhile, the wendigo will seem like a friendly puppy. You might actually miss it.

It's dead now, as far as we know.
Wouldn't count on that lasting, but I'll be glad not to see it again for awhile.
Halloween seemed like it might be the end of it. But something else will come.
