text/action
[River has done everything you are supposed to do. She has wandered the grounds, played with the fish, admired the flowers, then suddenly took notice of the giant mansion that had been looming at the corner of her eye the entire time. She then dutifully entered and took a long walk straight to an empty room. Because that's what she's supposed to do.
It's then that she addresses the communicator that's been in her hand the whole time.]
everyone gets bored always saying the same things
i got told i wont wake up and this planets in a corner of the verse no one can reach
no need to threaten anyone
[She pauses to gather her thoughts. There are a lot of them and some of them aren't hers and those ones are making her brain itchy. She's trying her best to be clear.]
people say strange things that have nothing to do with this place
but thats only as important as you make it
whats important is
[What is important? River is not sure she even knows. She scratches at her head and continues.]
too empty for a place thats full
wish i was lost
[That's enough for now. She hits send and leaves the room, and sets off wandering the mansion the way she did the grounds. Her footsteps are heavy in their big combat boots, but she gives a kind of grace to it regardless. She can be found anywhere, looking very lost with big confused eyes that stare like she's constantly in the headlights. She pointedly avoids the labs and the clinic, but has no qualms stepping into, say, the bar or the magic study, although she has no place in either. She touches things a lot.]

action;
Great, River. Come on, let's get to my room, okay?
[She gestures at the same time to Chloe, wordlessly asking for help. Max isn't sure at all how River will react, but she's going to trust both her and Chloe to keep their cool.]
action;
Fuck, wish I had my gun. She'd feel safer with it. Nevertheless, she reaches out to help Max pick the other girl up from the floor.
She whispers to Max behind River, doing her best not to be heard by the other girl because Chloe gets the feeling she can go loco any time.]
You sure about this Max?
Re: action;
You're not Max.
[She doesn't hear Chloe's whisper, but hears it, and she backs away from the two of them. Only she just ends up flat against the wall, which startles her a little.]
Cat scared of the vacuum. Because it makes noise.
action;
It's okay. We can go upstairs to my room, okay? And you can stay there by yourself if you want. [And now she does glance back quickly at Chloe, entirely unsure if what she's saying is correct.]
action;
No shit I'm not Max. The name's Chloe.
[But she does look at Max when River backs away from them. Great Max. Now what? This girl needs some serious help.
And Chloe thought Nathan was bad. It seems that there's just always going to be some crackpot out there who's crazier than the first.
How comforting.]
action;
Don't... I'll be... alone? I'm never... [She's struggling to get her words out, nothing seems correct. Her lips shut tight in frustration for a second while she collects herself.]
We can go. Upstairs to your room. [She parrots it back, because repeating is easier right now. She folds her arms over herself uncomfortably and glances at Chloe, of whom she's still unsure about.]
action;
Conscious of not speaking too loudly, she just nods to River and whispers back.]
It's just one floor up. [Max notices the unsure glance at Chloe, though, as she beckons River to follow.] Chloe's just my sidekick. She's cool.
action;
[Chloe looks at Max, trying her best to communicate non-verbally. Really? You're gonna bring her to your room? Does Max really trust River that much?
But anyway, Chloe decides to follow suit. She looks at River then nods at Max.]
Come on River. If you want to get to Max's room, we need to start walking.
action;
Won't touch anything. [She says this to Chloe instead of Max. Max isn't the one who needs convincing.] Very good houseguest. Mom agrees. That's why I'm here.
action;
..Not that Max would be staying in the same room as River for long. Unless the girl really wants company, which Max kind of doubts. She wants to help, sure. Just as long as this doesn't turn into another Chara incident.]
I don't doubt it, River. [She smiles encouragingly at the River as they make their way along the hall. The stairs are nearby, so pretty soon she starts to climb them.]
action;
Home sweet home, ladies.
action;
Why? [Why is she helping River?]
action;
[But the memory of why she's doing it is there. A classmate, Nathan Prescott- mentally disturbed, misunderstood- no one actually helping him, really listening- to the point that he became dangerous- that he shot Chloe, that blue-haired girl standing behind her.
That's why Max wants to make sure someone helps this time.
And that's why neither girl wants to stay in the same room as River, too.]
action;
It would be a lot safer if we weren't just standing like a bunch of idiots outside the room.
[She enters the room and takes out a box of cigarettes and a lighter from Max's closet (she left her other pack in her room) and lights up one cigarette. Chloe slowly exhales a puff of smoke and turns to face the window. A little R'n'R in case all hell breaks loose later on.]
action;
[She could argue that she's not dangerous. But maybe that's not true. Maybe she is dangerous. When she protected Kaylee and killed those men, she became terrible. When she didn't see the gun and picked it up, everyone became scared. Dangerous.
Maybe she's slowly turning dangerous.
She slowly enters the room and dutifully sits on the bed.]
Not safe near me.
[She hugs her arms over her chest and stares down at her lap.]
action;
No biggie. I guess we're kind of used to 'not safe.' [Max glances again at Chloe, with a small smirk.]
We'll just be across the hall, okay? Room 208. And you can stay here as long as you want.
