Where I come from, they're pretty standard-issue. The AI on my ship handles the translation software for anything in the vicinity. There's also a smaller one built into my hardsuit.

Though, the more people I've talked to, the more I realize a lot of people don't come from a time I'm familiar with.

When you say "ship," one assumes that you don't mean an overseas one.

Not for me, but you're not the first person to ask the distinction. All of it's for space travel.

Intergalactic travel is something my people have been reaching towards but not yet achieved for ourselves. At present, our planet is still only a stopping point for visiting species.

I've been hearing about the same from most people here. The Earth I know is still mostly humans, but we're part of a bigger galactic community now. Comes with all the fun stuff, like FTL travel and dealing with alien bureaucrats and tons of red tape.

I've been trying to work with something FTL in my theoretical work. In practice, though, I've only managed to break the sound barrier. On the topic of bureaucracy, I can never seem to find adequate funding for my passion projects.

[There's also usually something trying to blow up the world. There's definitely also that.]

In my world, humanity didn't figure out FTL travel until we came across an alien data cache on Mars. So I can't imagine trying to invent it from scratch. I'd give you the rundown if I could, but I'm no physicist. I just know it works.

Inventing things from scratch is a hobby of mine. But if anything from your world becomes accessible during one of these... [A glance to the pamphlets. Ugh, that terminology is silly.] Events... I'd be interested in reverse-engineering what I can.

I'll be sure to let you know. I brought a little bit of tech with me in my hardsuit, but... not stuff I can spare. I'd be happy to let you look over some of it if you're interested though. I'd just need it back in one piece.
