Okay okay okay okay. So I know there's an event coming up and we're all freaking out about it, and it's probably gonna be horrible like usual, but I gotta say this before we get too deep into October. So, you know how Halloween is the best holiday, and October is the best month, and autumn is the best season, and all that? And you know how the best thing about all of those is...

[Dramatic pause.]

Pumpkins, obviously. I was thinking, we definitely need to have a pumpkin chunking competition.

[She grins like a wild person.]

So for the uninitiated, pumpkin chunking is when you build something that can launch things--like a catapult, or a trebuchet, or a giant slingshot, or a cannon, and so on--and then you compete to see how far the thing you built can launch a pumpkin. It's literally the best thing, after Halloween and autumn leaves. Since I figure most people don't really know how to build stuff like that, people could team up. You could have team names and give your pumpkin chunker a name like they do with monster trunks. I mean trucks. The only rules is you can't use anything gas powered--it has to all be mechanical. And you also can't, like, murder people with pumpkins.

And knowing Wonderland, there's probably gonna be some crazy ass shit happening for Halloween, but I figure we can pick a day near then and that's when we have the competition. We can roll out our stuff to the checkerboard hills and launch from there, that way we got wide open space and people won't get hit by flying pumpkins.

[She gives the camera a really eager look.]

A question, perhaps? You speak of means that are fairly mechanical from what I can tell. Are other means allowable? Magic perhaps? If only in an attempt to perhaps draw tight another throwing device?

Hmmmm. I think magic is okay if you're only using it to help you build, but it can't be like the main...ingredient. Like you can't go, "abracadabra" and have that launch the pumpkin a bazillion miles, that's not fair to people with no magic. But if you're just using magic to help then I think that's fine? Yeah, we'll call that fine.

Abso-freaking-lutely there's points for speed and style! I think the only caveat is your pumpkin does actually have to land on the ground, it can't like, explode in midair. Even though that would be totally badass.

But yeah, I had a feeling. Wonderland seems to like holidays. I keep hearing that Christmas is always a freakshow, so I'm figuring Halloween will probably be the same.

Wait. What makes you think it's going to be horrible? I mean, just because it seemed kind of creepy doesn't mean it's going to be horrible, right?

And I love pumpkin chunking. I may not be much of an engineer myself, but I can help measure. Or make baked goods to hand out! And maybe have some drinks, too! I mean, I might not be good a chunking pumpkins, but if there's anything else you need done, I can do it. Might as well keep busy before we get rescued, right?

Oh, well they're pretty much always horrible. Like ninety percent of the time. I've only been here a few months but like, events are always either fun, okay, or horrible, and most of the time it's the last one. I figure it's better to just expect the worst.

Ah hell yeah though! We're definitely gonna need refreshments. Also I figure, if people are on teams, then one person can be the engineer and the others can just help with building or working the machine. That way no one gets left out.

Now that's something that I've only glanced over during my initial research on the mesh back home! It sounds intriguing. You can count me in on this one, Mae.

I suppose the best place to start now is to design a suitable catapult, then actually build the entire thing...hm. I'm glad that we have a few weeks to really plan this over.

[Turing's not going to have a problem designing a catapult, but building it? They haven't built a thing in their entire life. This...was going to be interesting.]
